How can you tell?

Thanks.

If your are speaking about sim unlocked (can run another carrier's sim), just borrow someones T-Mobile sim and see if it will work in your phone. If you are speaking about app unlocked (ability to install uncertified apps), I attached a little program that you can run and it will let you know. Just unzip, drop the exe file onto your device (will work from the sd card) and run the exe file with the device's file mgr. If your are speaking about CID unlocked (ability to install another carrier/manufacturers rom) I'm not sure other than trying to install another ROM. Someone else might know a better way.

John,

I'm talking about SIM unlocked. What are some examples of "app unlocked"?

Thanks.

Many of the 3rd party apps that are available are put together and developed by people who don't have the time and assets to go thru the process to have there products certifed by MS. In order to install some of those programs on your device, you need to application unlock your device to install them. An example of a useful program that you cannot install until you app unlock is Smart Tweaker. There are many others. You also cannot make some registry edits until you app unlock also.

John,

Thanks. I didn't know that. I've always been able to install anything on my 8525, though. Even simple little shareware and freeware apps. I've never app unlocked it. I've gotten messages that something wasn't signed or something like that, but I was able to install.

Forgot to note that you were running a ppc device. App unlock is a smartphone issue.

So... Does anyone know how I can verify that an 8525 is unlocked?

Thanks.

He answered in his first response. Try putting a T-Mobile SIM card in it. If you don't have access to one, i don't know of any other way to test it.

I don't have a T-Mobile card, that's why I'm asking.

Then there's no other way to tell.

That's not true. Using mtty.exe to talk via usb to your phone's radio bootloader, you can definitely tell whether it's unlocked.

Read here:

http://wiki.xda-developers.com/inde...RadioBootLoader

When you launch mtty, select usb, click "Ok" then you have to HIT ENTER TWICE, and you'll see the USB prompt.

You want this to issue the command rtask b then press enter, then ate1 (to have local echo), press enter, and finally:

at@simlock?40 press enter, and if it returns:

@SIMLOCK= 00 ---> means phone is unlocked
@SIMLOCK= 01 ---> means phone is locked
