need help unbranding my phone

I SIM unlocked and CID unlocked from http://www.imei-check.com/dashunlock.php, downloaded the Bootloader update, and the HTC shipping ROM from Rapidshare, ran the bootloader update, all is well the phone goes into bootloading screen. But it would then tell me the phone is not connected via USB. ActiveSync is on prior to all this and is well connected. Would it matter if I was on Windows Vista? It should still work shouldn't it?

Yup, plugged it into my buddy's XP setup and all is well. The HTC executables have some bug preventing it to finish the flash I guess.
