Auto schedule on and off - WM6, Dash?

(Click here to view the original thread with full colors/images)

I've searched everywhere for an app to load on my WM6 Dash that will turn off the phone at a pre-set time and turn it back on at a pre-set time. My Blackberry 7290 had this functionality built in, and I find it useful to constrain bandwidth overnight (I don't have direct push, I have POP pull for my e-mail).

I've found 'sleepwell' which turns the phone off automatically, but doesn't turn it back on. Is there a program out there that I can use to turn off the phone, say, at 2 a.m. each night and back on at 6 a.m. each morning?

The other benefit is a well deserved re-boot of the WM6 OS.

Thanks for all replies, much appreciated.

You will not find an application that will turn on the phone. Unfortunately, when you fully turn off a smartphone, no programs can run (even the built-in microsoft apps/alerts).

Turn off, reboot, change profiles, etc. yes, but nothing that will turn it on from an off state. There are a few contenders. I currently am using John Cody's Alerts and have had it run successfully on both a S710 and a dash with wm6.

I've also used AutoFlight and it worked fine in wm5. I haven't tried it in wm6.

dcboy, to clarify what I said about powering off the phone...what I mean is that it is possible to completely shut off the phone so that nothing is running. Once the phone is completely off however, simply because there is no power nothing can run including alert programs.

However, switching profiles is easily done thru the programs mentioned to include shutting down the phone function aka flight mode. I have mine set to go to silent at 11:00 pm; reboot at 3:00 am, and switch to normal profile at 6:00 am and run awake up alarm at 6:15 am. You can also chose the reoccurance pattern (if any). I think that is what you were asking vs. completely shutting down the device.

John,

Thank you for clarifying your response, this is exactly what I had in mind!

I've installed John Cody's Alerts! trial and will give it a try. I've scheduled a reboot of my device to occur at 6 a.m., which is very helpful since I WM gets gummed up quickly with straggling memory hogging programs and leaks.

I also realize that I can change my profiles during the night, as you do, but I haven't figured out how you can toggle the radio? i.e. flight mode? I'd like to enable flight mode overnight so that my phone isn't pinging POP e-mail when I'm not awake. Is there a way to enable flight mode overnight using John Cody's program?

Ideally, I'd like to start flight-mode at 2 a.m., restart at 6 a.m., and then reboot shortly thereafter.

John,

I just checked out Autoflight. It appears as though this program may be better suited for my needs if it can enable flight mode and trigger a WM reset! I'll uninstall John Cody's Alerts! and give Autoflight a try.

Let me know if this is what you suggest. Your help is greatly appreciated.

Its really a matter of choice for what you need. I am using JCA now as it has a few more features that I have used on occaision. It also lets you easily suspend an alarm without having to delete the whole alarm. Handy when you have a daily wakeup that you want to kill on a particluar day that you are off but normally would have it set. Last time I used AutoFlight (few months ago) that was not present. AutoFlight has a ppc version also where JCA is smartphone/standard only. JCA (John Cody) is very responsive and responds to his support forum quickly. Try them both and then decide. There is a good review of JCA that you can find in SmartphoneThoughts.

You might also want to take a look at the features in DontForget2. Besides being able to control the led light on a device like the dash/3125, it has the ablity to put your device into flight mode during prescribed hours. Also will give you audio/visual alerts for messages, missed callls, sms, etc.

I use "Profiles for Windows Mobile" and he has a smartphone version:
http://www.winmobileapps.com/device...screenshot.aspx

I like this one because it's very simple. Unlike phonealarm which does way more than I want, this just turns on/off the radio and sound, wifi, bluetooth and a few other simple things. The one thing it's missing is that I'd like it to adjust the screen brightness, but no biggie.

I also really like Phoneweaver:

But they DO NOT have a smartphone version yet that I'm aware of. But I quit using it on my Treo 750 because it seems to not work so well with the sounds, being that the Treo has some customized sound options that this profiler doesn't seem to like.

Thanks everyone for all the advice, it is greatly appreciated.

For my needs, I have settled with Autoflight. It has a very compact interface, that is easy to use once you RTFM. On its own, it's not intuitive, but the learning curve is steep.

I've set it up such that the radio service turns off overnight, and then the device resets 5 minutes afterwards.

I'm very pleased. Thanks so much!

I have used both and use autoflight more as i like the calendar interface it has.

JC alerts and autoflights all do exactly the same thing when it comes to changing profiles, switching to flight mode rebooting or even switching it off (not back on though).

the main difference is JC offers other ALARM features that autoflight does not. such as set time sending of SMS...or a reminder going off once you have synched to you PC (useful if you need reminding to do somethiing at home or work but don't know what time you'll be there)

may main love though for autoflight is as I said the caedar ability.

where JC shows the alarms in the calendar so you know which one is coming up next,
autoflight reads the calendar so it can perform functions based on what you have in you r calendar simply by adding 3 to five extra carachters to the subject line.

so say you are at the cinema at 9 till 11 and at that time the phone normally is in loud pofile simply put in the calendar subject. "cinema #s#" this will make the phone goto silent during the period ou have specified during the appointment time. it will then go back to loud if you want it to go back to normal you would simply put

"cinema #s#n# in the subject box.

I love autofligh....but I use JC alerts too for other things

ohh and with the new features I suggested been put in place in 5.2.1 you can now have different SET of alarms re-occuring for different work patterns and get autoflight to change the set file automatically for you.

as a shift worker I have a set of alarms for nights earlies and lates shifts...autoflight automatically changes them so that i never have to alter it manually so that my alarms that are set to go off during the day are put to rest like me when I work nights
