Nokia 6300 ringtone question

Hey. I have a Nokia 6300 locked to Fido. They prevent Mp3 files as ringtones but but from what i've read in the forums here, you can use wma or wav, and they will work without having to unbrand it. I tried converting a couple songs and put them in my phone. Then i tried setting it as a ringtone but it says "file too big". The song i was using is about 500kb big. Anyone know what the restriction is?

No, but if can find a wav editor somewhere, you can chop the file down to a manageable size.

Manageable meaning, keep slicing until it's small enuf to work.

I already did cut the song. I only took the chorus. I'm out of ideas...

you can still purchase ringtones through the web browser on the phone.

Buying something that i already have is not an option for me. I'm sure there's another way

I have the same problem, with the same phone. Haven't tried messing with it in Diego yet...but I probably will soon...Paying for ringtones is such a scam.

Yeah there are so many easier ways to get ringtones than subscribe to some bs promo on tv or expensive ones on the net.

Debranding the phone accomplishes this.
You can then use your mp3 or wave files for your ringer.
There's a VERY LONG forum on Howard Forums (complete with instructions) on how to this.

I've done it and now use whatever mp3 or wave files i want without having to worry about that stoopid error.

Sweet!!!!

HI,

I have the same problem...eventhough I changed to .wma, it says too large. I dont know why. Does anyone know what is the smallest size that we can put as ringtones.

Thanks

Hi,

I even change the file size to 95KB. Now, when I select, it says it cannot be use as a ringtone....so what should we do?

try using ASF files instead of wma, they work for me
