Internation Text Messaging problem

Hi,

A friend of mine is trying to send a text message to Guatemala. She's using the same number she uses to call the mobile (011+502+8 digit number), but the message keeps getting bounced. I've searched around and everything I've read leads me to believe that if you can call it, then you can text it.

Any ideas on what she's doing wrong, or what else she could try? She's already tried calling Rogers, but they've been pretty much no help...

Thanks!

Well, the Rogers site does mention something about a region code:

011 + 502 + Region Code + Number

Does anyone know the Region Code for Huehuetenango?

By the way, Rogers' solution was to add a + in front. What does that mean?

+country code-telephone #

+502-2xxx-xxxx

+ tells Rogers it is international

502 is Guatemala country code

2 signifies Interurban zone.
The interurban zone includes the departments of: Quetzaltenango, Huehuetenango, El Quiché, Totonicapán, Sololá, San Marcos, Retalhuleu, Sacatepéquez, Chimaltenango, Escuintla, Santa Rosa, Jutiapa, Suchitepéquez, El Petén, Izabal, Zacapa, Chiquimula, El Progreso, Jalapa, Alta Verrapaz and Baja Verapaz.

Example of it for a Toronto, ON, Canada 416 area code #:
+1-416-xxx-xxxx

I've had lots of problems with international text messages. You are still being charged for those bounced messages, I was.

The + doesn't matter, as it comes with all text messages (national or international). I ended up trying a different carrier and it worked. Sometimes the international carriers are limited to a specific region.

When you say "tried a different carrier" do you mean you switched carriers, or the recipient did? (Not that think either is an option in this case... I'm just curious)
