Nice find! If you get to test this out, let us know what the results are. I hate having to have my piece of paper with the Chinese --> English instructions handy.

Ditto. At this point it's not worth arguing since we've already asked nicely. There's really no value in those pics anyway, and blocking the images in FF aren't a reasonable request because I occasionally look at Negri Electronic's site.

so how many days use out of this phone? I want a solid 26/27 hours of heavy use, then I am happy. I can deal with daily charging, but I cant deal with charging mid day.

you work 26/27 hrs a day?

ouch.

Posted by: kingharrison

hah, nice. I guess I want more than a solid day of use. Cause my charging times are not always consistent, and more than 24 hours seemed appropriate

Posted by: bigneeker

is there any way to get the led alert for notifications (sms, missed calls...)?
like on pocket pcs?

does anyone know if phonealarm works well with the c730?

thakns

Posted by: Beretta1526

I'm just wondering if I set an alarm, that the phone will continue to go off thereafter, even when the alarm is turned off.

I've got that issue with my S710 and don't want it to happen on this thing...

I have registered my S630 on the HTC WWE site, but I don't see the S630 pictured. When I search for it, it asks if i mean the S620. It allowed me to register it, but I can't find it. Any ideas?

Thanks.

Just got my Dopod C730, and I have these questions:

1) Is there a quick way of switching profiles, such as pressing # on the Dash?
2) In Pocket IE, is there an easier way of clearing the URL. On Dash it was holding Back arrow button.
3) Are there any crystal cases available?

1. press switch off (don't hold it) and you can chage profiles from there fast.
2. ? Never used Dash - sorry
3. Check here www.proporta.com do to dopod c730 page

#2. I noticed that too on the Dopod, i don't think there is a way to fast clear it. but, the HTC S630 you can still fast clear it.

I had used Dopod C730 on T-Mobile (in USA, New York) for the past 3 weeks.
And I had installed the Blackberry Connect 4.0.

All works fine.
The only config (manually input as the Network Wizard cannot detect T-Mobile) is to set up a GPRS connection.
Name: <any name you preferred>
Connects to: The Internet
Access point: wap.voicestream.com

The rest of the systems works fine.

Only function I did not try was MMS.

There is just an update of the ROM on Dopod website.
The original version (comes in the phone) should be as follows:
-- Dopod International C730 ROM Code (1.16.707.5)
-- ROM version: 1.16.707.5
-- Radio version: 32.76.7020.19H_1.43.50.00
-- Service Pack: 22.707.1.9

The new version (release on 31 July 2007) is as follow:
-- Dopod International C730 ROM Code (1.16.707.7)
-- ROM version: 1.16.707.7
-- Radio version: 32.76.7020.19H_1.43.50.00
-- Service Pack: 22.707.1.9

I have not got time to test it out, thus cannot comment on the difference.
The website also did not state what is the enhancement/changes.

This is strange because my C730 info states:
ROM: 1.16.708.5
Radio: 32.76.7020.19W_1.43.50.00
Service Pack: 22.708.1.8

These info are from ROM that was instaled to the device that was shiped to me. According to this "the new release" is older than the one in my device.

I also checked on Dopod site (HTC Asia HK), there is no new software update for C730.

???

I think the C730 Software Pack Updates (2577) file that is available on the Dopod Asia site not only provides a back up of some of the programs, it also includes a new Dopod scheme and a new ROM. If I am not mistaken, when I booted the phone with the memory card, the phone asked if I want to install a new ROM.

I bought my Dopod C730 on June 4th in Hong Kong. I have the following on my Dopod but I am not sure if this is the original or it has been updated via the 2577 file.

ROM: 1.16.708.5
Radio: 32.76.7020.19H_1.43.50.00
Service Pack: 22.708.1.6

As far as I know from my TyTN experience, no HTC device is shipped CID unlocked. I would suggest not to try a HTC S630 Rom on a Dopod C730, it would probably crash the device.
The only option for the moment is to wait for someone who can create a CID unlock for the Cavalier (probably at xda-developers).

Cheers

I have it as a zip file but don't see a new ROM there.

It is strange, especially since they allowed me to register it.

Nothing is strange, HTC released S630 for Americas and they will support it (a lot of companies have it on their site). Question is, will HTC release it for Europe? As we already know HTC Asia (ex Dopod) released it for Asia. Dopod does give support it and HTC so will HTC.
For the moment part of HTC site is down (software updates) and it could be because HTC is preparing to roll out WM6 upgrades for selected devices.
I also have my TyTN registered on HTC Europe site, it did show me picture of my registered device, but now is gone.

Well the only thing we can do is wait and see.

Cheers

Anyone see the Softbank version of this phone? I kinda like it:

Thank you for the info. I thought the S630 was WWE, not just for the Americas? Yes we will wait and see. I hope there is an update, because some of the keyboard buttons are not mapped correctly.

You may like these:

1. Card cache - move your PIE cache to storage card (before you do it, empty your PIE cache than run the cab file)
2. Vito copy/paste

Cheers

P.S. More to come

Posted by: ibeqa

We're not allowed to upload more than 14 kb? Strange!!!

Due to upload restrictions I had to go through rapidshare.
Link: http://rapidshare.com/files/46406876/Cavalier_cabs.zip

Except for the two cabs I posted earlier there are three other cabs:

1. Inbox extender (extends your inbox with "delete all and mark all")
2. Clock on top (creates a small digital clock like on ppc)
3. MoDaCo_DoNew (creates new document for word and excel)

cheers

I got a quick question. I got my internet to finally work and now my i can't send out text, but i receive them. Does anyone no what the problems is, text work fine before i had setup my internet.

Posted by: msomerst

Please be advised that there is a MAJOR bug in the HTC Cavalier - s630. The bug relates to text entry. I cannot enter text properly in several software applications. For example, I cannot enter my username in Sirius WM5. Google "HTC 630 bug" for additional information. I cannot even believe that a company could sell a phone with this huge and obvious flaw. DO NOT BUY THE PHONE.

If you are referring to not able to input letters on the keys that share with numbers, it had been reported on the Dopod C730 on page 17 of this thread. This was discovered when some of us try the MS Live Search.

Check this link out
http://blogs.msdn.com/windowsmobile...2-released.aspx

I do have a work around for this. It is not the most convenient way but it works. Use Quick Note or Word to input what you want. “Do a Copy” and then “Paste” to your application.

Do you there will be a fix soon? Unfortunately Quick note is not on the S630 and I can't open a new document in word.

In Sirius WM5, instead of trying to enter the visual Captcha information, I use the audio Captcha and it works fine. I can enter anything in the user information field and it works great so I'm not sure why you're not able to do it there.

I wonder if these issues are with how the applications are written or a bug in the software? I've noticed that several apps will trigger numeric mode on their own and only allow numbers to be entered in specific fields, but when I've encountered it that's nice because then I don't have to hold the FN key to enter numbers.

Either way, this isn't a dealbreaker for me.

Now this is an issue that I am NOT having. I've entered text in all the different Windows Live search text boxes I can find and not one of them does this.

Same here. I just tried and they all work fine for me.

Those who are having issues-when your cursor is in the text box, what is shown in the top right corner of your screen? Mine shows abc (I'd guess yours shows 123).

Posted by: chernomorez

For those of you who have HTC s630, is it rubberish like the Dash/HTC s620, or plastic like Dopod C730?

Thanks

It's plastic like the C730.

I have the HTC S630 and I don't get anything to show up in the text box, when pressing the #0-9 buttons. Mine beeps (like nothing can be entered). I've tried, xt9, ABC, and 12#; no luck. I hope MS comes out with a fix soon. Google Maps works perfectly for me...If MS doesn't come out with a Fix soon, I'll just stay with Google Maps.

What about the number keys?

On Dopod the number keys are placed along the letters ERT/DFG/CVB. On some pictures online they are shown on HTC s630 on WER/SDF/XCV, just like they had it on Dash. Can you confirm that?

Also, does the HTC s630 come in Black/Silver or Black/Brown color?

This has been reported several times in this thread. It has been confirmed in the Pocketnow.com review of the Cavalier as well.

Hi,

Just received my C730 yesterday! I have read all the entries for tweaking it to meet USA standards. I have deleted the network wizard and downloaded all the cabs from elbow and other members.

My problem is that I did something that has my phone in roaming mode! It has been Edge roaming and I can't find a way to get out of roaming. Your assistance and ideas would help a lot. My service is Tmobile and I have manually setup my phone for Internet, MMS etc. I could have made some errors in that set up. Because I wasn't sure about proxy addresses and if I needed any proxy addresses.

Thanks

Posted by: martinctv

After a few hard resets, I still can't get mine to read ABC, it only says, xt9, or 12#.

Just got my HTC s630 on Friday...I am having the data entry problems with the Yahoo Go! application. I am only able to enter my user name because I have typed it in elsewhere and the predictive text picks up what I am doing and then autocompletes the rest (I wouldn't be able to type it in manually). However, that is as far as I can get as I cannot enter my password. The only available data entry option is "abc" in the password field (xT9 is available in the user name field).

The application works, but I can't log in.

I've been trying to set up my HTC s630 on T-Mobile in the US (NY). The settings on T-Mobile's site (for the s621 mind you) are incorrect:

Connects to: WAP Network.
Access point: wap.voicestream.com.
User name: leave this field blank.
Password: leave this field blank.
In Internet explorer, options, connections, select network: "wap network"

Thank you t68m, instead of connects to "Wap Network", it should be set to "The Internet". Though, in Internet explorer, the connection option should still be set to "wap network" (not "The Internet").

I am not able to configure MMS as of now, not per T-Mobile's directions...and I haven't seen any post referring to the set up.

Any help would be appreciated.

In the comm manager, there is a #5, "data services". I am not sure what this is for, but I accidentally turned it off (just by clicking on it). I could not figure out how to turn it back on and the guide makes no mention (in fact it says that data services cannot be reconnected from the comm manager).

However, I was able to get it back on after opening Internet Explorer (after googling the issue and seeing this solution posted elsewhere).

The “Data Services” cannot be turned on in the “Comm Manager”. However, you can turn it off. When you are using Internet or email and you are connected to the Data Service (phone), this would light up.
To manage my battery usage, I select GSM on “Phone” selection. I found GSM seems to be more stable than the Auto setting. I would switch to Auto only when I am using my Internet or email. After I am done with email or Internet, I would switch back to GSM. I found that I need to turn off “Data Services” before I could switch. Hope this helps!
PS. I switch to Auto because I am in a 3G area and get much faster speed with Auto.

I also tried the Windows Live and found no problem with text input.
Another 2 users:

The common thing I noticed is that all 3 of us seems to be using Dopod C730, rather than HTC S630.

I've noticed all the named applications that people report the text input problems with are .NET Compact Framework based applications.

To determine your .NET CF version navigate using the file browser to \Windows and locate and run the cgacutil.exe application to display a popup with the .NET CF version number.

.NET CF 1.0 RTM = 1.0.2268.0
.NET CF 1.0 Service Pack 1 = 1.0.3111.0
.NET CF 1.0 Service Pack 2 = 1.0.3316.0
.NET CF 1.0 Service Pack 3 = 1.0.4292.0
.NET CF 2.0 RTM = 2.0.5238.0
.NET CF 2.0 Service Pack 1 = 2.0.6129.0
.NET CF 2.0 Service Pack 2 = 2.0.7045.0

Mine reports .NET CF 2 Service Pack 2's version number of 2.0.7045.0 and my S630 has the input problem.

I wonder if the working devices show .NET CF 2 SP 1.

Would people with Cavaliers mind checking and posting their .NET CF versions and if they have an HTC or Dopod branded device?

Thank you,
Malcolm

My Dodpod C730 shows 2.0.7045.0

Does anyone know of any [blackberry-style] holster for the s630?

The leather case for the Blackberry 8800 fits pretty good.

Thanks, I'll have to look into that... I was wondering about plastic, though. Like the iPaq 6900 series.

On my Dopod C730 (no text entry issues), I also show 2.0.7045.0 when I run the utility.

i am from israel and would like to sell the dopod c730 at a very fair price + shipping i have few where should i post them please ?

There's a lot of posts in this thread, and I'm hoping someone can just pop theire head in and answer these two questions real quick.

I'm assuming the Dopod c730 and the HTC S630 are the same device. (I know Dopod rebrands HTC devices and stuff) Correct?

Also, does the HTC S630 have the bands neccesary for Cingular 3G operation?

Well...I have a Dopod C730 and I still have the input issues with Live. Have you updated your version of Live Search? What registry hacks/cabs have you installed? All of my versions match yours so I am pretty confused why we don't both have the input issues. Have you ever had the input problem?

The only other version number I am curious about is your Service Pack on the Device Info screen. Mine shows 22.708.1.8.

Same hardware, but the ROMs are slightly different. Both work great on AT&T (previously Cingular). Read the thread for more info on the differences.

This also puzzles me. Here's the stuff I've installed:

ClearType cab
Disable Net Wiz cab

That's it other than a custom Home Screen that emulates the one on my HTC S710.

I don't have any SP information on my Device Information screen:

Start > Settings > More... > More... > More... > Device Information

Now, something I am wondering though... my C730 is from Hong Kong, and has a small branding image on the back at the top of the battery cover for CSL 1010 :

As well as having come through SiS Int'l Ltd (a distributor).

I'm wondering if this has anything at all to do with my ROM version and/or lack of text input issue?

Thanx for the info...as lonjg as it can do 3G here in the U.S. the difference won't matter to me

Does anyone know if there is a store in California that carries the Cavalier? Would like to take a look at it. Does anyone really like this device? I was going to purchase it, but the reviews aren't the best. I have the dash, I like it...but its slow and freezes sometimes.

It probably has a little to do with the ROM for localization purposes, but the Dopod ROM is mostly vanilla.

Fwiw, 1010 is a wireless brand targeting business professionals in Hong Kong and Taiwan. It's owned by CSL, which in turn is owned by Australian wireless heavyweight Telstra.

Now we're getting somewhere... anyone else?

I have the same markings on my C730 but no text input problems. Just my phone has been struck in roaming mode.

My C730 has no markings, but my S630 has the 1010 mark.

OK, that's really weird. Your C730 doesn't have the problem, but the S630 does... despite the 1O1O branding and lack thereof on the C730.

Your Befuddled? I'm beside myself trying to figure this thing out. What I don't understand, is why some S630's seem not to have text input problems? My C730 works flawlessly with all text input websites and software. I'm sure someone will figure it all out soon. Befuddled too.

Posted by: Beretta1526

That's one of the only things keeping me from getting an S630. If I knew for a fact that a particular one with a particular ROM (or whatever it is that makes a difference), I'd buy one.

Posted by: chompx2

I have the input problem with MS Live Search but not with Google Maps. The only difference is that I installed the MS Live Search on my Micro SD card and the Google Maps is on my device. I wonder if this is the cause of my problem because the keyboard works fine with all the applications that came with the phone.
Would those who have problems with keyboard input report back and state if the keyboard problem only occurs on apps that are installed on the Micro SD card? Those that have no problems using the MS Live Search, where did you install that app?

Posted by: MalPraktiz

all my installs go to the device, not the mem card

installation location would not effect the key code sent to the applications from the OS

I wrote a small application that tracks keystrokes received from the OS and it shows that when I press "u" I get the keycode for the "right" keystroke (as in the right navigation pad button). Other keys that don't function as expected all send the wrong key codes. "L" sends the "return" key code for example. The keys that do function, like "j" actually send a keycode for "j" to the application. So clearly this is a matter of key mappings or hardware event signals getting mixed up when it comes to passing the info from the OS layers into a .NET Compact Framework based application.

google maps is a C++ app while WLS is .NET based

Thanks for the explanation. I am just at a lost and was hoping that it was just a matter of moving my apps. from the memory to the device.

That sounds suspiciously like Keyboard navigation for PIE. I don't have either device (planning on S630 though), so I can't check to see if that's the issue. I seem to recall that keyboard navigation is something that's able to be turned on and off. Can people with and without the input problem check to see if keyboard navigation in PIE is turned on?

Looks like Microsoft has looked into this problem and stated that

Anyone with an S630 tried registering with the S/N with the HTC e-Club? I entered the number and in my device registration history it shows a line item for the S/N and the date I entered it, but the device description column in the table is blank.

I just wish HTC would stop ignoring this device and get the product info and support pages up already.

On an unrelated topic I noticed that www.dopod.com is now listing a slider smartphone as a C730 while dopodasia.com which bounces the visitor off to http://www.asia.htc.com/asia/index.html shows the cavalier type device as a C730. All this really makes me question how screwed up things have to be behind the scenes at HTC.

The dopod.com site, for whatever reason, is calling the C500 the C730... Why they would do that, I have no idea, but they aren't even showing what we know as the C730 at all. Do any of the devices shown support 3.5G? Everything seems to be GPRS/EDGE.

The same thing happening with my registration of S630 on HTC's e-Club. Sucks, we need this issue fixed (I wish I was a programmer ) and HTC does not seem to even recognize existence of this device, much less offer fixes.
I was wondering if there is a way to re-install .NET framework and if that might solve the problem. I tried, but got an error stating that device already has one installed in ROM. So, maybe it is possible to force .NET installer to install overtop of the current one? Anyone knows?

Posted by: hokie36

Just a shot in the dark, but I did a search through the Registry for "ime" and came up with the following info:

HKLM\System\Ime
- Settings = 0x16 (22)
HKLM\System\CurrentControlSet\Control\Layouts\e001 0409
- Ime File = KTMPMgr.dll
- Layout Text = Keytouch Multiplay

The dll is in \Windows\ along with a KTQwerty.dll file. I was trying to get versions off of these files, but I got nothing using Resco Explorer.

What does any of this mean? I have no idea, but I thought it might help someone piece this all together.

I registered my C730 on the dopod Hong Kong site, and my S630 on the European site, but it does not show the S630 anywhere on the site, and when I called for support, the guy said they are not yet familiar with the S630, he was trying to help me using the S620 support pages or whatever he was reading. Pretty pathetic in my opinion.

So after doing some research on this and working with the developer of SiriusWM5, it does seem to be the IME is messed up. I'm not a developer and I have no idea if we can hack around this, but a quick workaround is apparently to make text boxes "multi line". The SiriusWM5 developer did this tonight and I can once again use the wonderful app on my smartphone!
For those of you who use SiriusWM5 you can fetch a fixed version on the geekstoolbox.com site =)

Posted by: jonnywifi

I took a chance and tried deleting the registry key: HKLM\System\CurrentControlSet\Control\Layouts\e001 0409

I then restarted the phone. Now all applications are acting like Windows Live Search. Even the search box in Pocket IE enters numbers instead of letters although the phone shows the input mode as "abc".

Of course I tried entering test in WLS and it still acts the same way.

When that key is deleted, Keytouch no longer functions.

I'm not sure what this means except that I think if the right dll were in the "IME File" key, I think the input problems would vanish. Just a guess.

One more datapoint. After a hard reset from my previous registry edit, I switched back to US English and edited the registry to remove the .NET framework keys from HKLM/Software/Microsoft, then installed a fresh .NET Compact Framework v2.0 SP2. The install completed successfully and the phone rebooted.

The same input problems still exist. Nothing changed at all.

The next thing I want to try is to figure out how to remove KeyTouch Multiplay. If you know what keyboard DLL I can substitute, please send the info on. I'm not using my Dopod C730 for anything more than testing until this input problem is solved.

Thanks,
JonnyWiFi

Has anyone tried updating to the new Aug. 6th Dopod ROM - C730 ROM Update (1.16.708.7)?

Posted by: dsbaer

Can anyone help. I am unable to use either keytouch or Vito.

For keytouch it lets me get into the edit screen, but the on screen display disappears when I left click for "copy"

Posted by: jonnywifi

Where did you find the Aug. 6th Dopod ROM? Is it posted on Dopod HK's site for download?

Posted by: jonnywifi

Got the new ROM from HTC Hong Kong club site. The installer is all in Chinese, but it supports Vista and I figured out enough to start the installation. It's a VERY slow installer. 10 minutes so far and the progress bar is only at 9%.

The notes associated with this ROM suggest I need to install a "2577" folder as well for the "international C730". The 2577 folder is listed on their page for download, so I'll check that out too.

Posted by: monakh

jonnywifi--please give us your impressions after the ROM has been installed. Hopefully it has English support!

Posted by: jonnywifi

The new ROM installed fine.
ROM version: 1.16.708.7
Radio Version: 32.76.7020.19H_1.43.50.00
Service Pack: 22.708.1.6

Windows Live Search still does not work. Same problem with getting numbers instead of letters... So sad.

Posted by: jonnywifi

Yes. It has the same English support as the prior ROM. It starts in Chinese and you must blindly find your way to change it to US English.

I don't see any differences from the prior ROM, but then it's only had this ROM for 10 minutes..

Posted by: monakh

That sucks.

WTH is up with Cavalier support from HTC and its subsidiaries? This is almost like the ******* child of High Tech Computer that they refuse to acknowledge. WTF?

Without having to comb through this entire thread again, can someone summarize for me the actual impact of the input issue? Specifically, which programs are affected? I'm waffling on the S630 and the cheaper Treo 750 largely based upon this one issue right now.

Thanks

I have the text input problems in many different applications. I have a s630.

Posted by: chompx2

I was #37 to download this ROM from Dopod Asia. Since I got my Dopod in Hong Kong so I just went ahead and did the install a few days ago.

This installation language is in Chinese. I have English Window OS. All the prompts are not readable. The fonts are all messed up and all I can see is “???????”.
I can read Chinese, and there is a read me file in PDF format that can be accessed by clicking one of the on screen buttons. So I open the read me file and use it as a guide to help me navigate the installation.

The instruction warns that all apps will be lost and do not use any Restore app to restore. That means that after this ROM update, I have to re-configure. I proceed and did the ROM update. (I should have removed my micro SD card out when I did the update.) The update went OK. When I reboot the phone, the 2577 file installed all the missing apps that normally gone when I do a hard reset.

Here are some of the things I discovered:-
• The apps in 2577 file did not install clean and I did not see that extra apps on the Dopod.
• The ROM update reinstalled the ActiveSync but this is in Chinese Language. As a result, the ActiveSync were not displaying correct fonts and I could not see the words.
• There is now an “Office Mobil folder” when I click “Start”. The folder contains three icons (Excel Mobile, PowerPoint Mobile and Word Mobile).
• All my network setting for AT &T Blue was gone.

It took my almost 5 hours to get me back and get my phone to work just like before the update. So do not do this ROM update unless you have time. (It took 5 hours because I have to do some trail and error going through the installation and looking for my network settings).

Here is what I would suggest for anyone who wants to do this.
• Remove the micro-SD card (I am assuming that the 2577 folder is in that micro –SD card) when updating the ROM. Only insert the micro-SD card and reinstall the missing apps after the ROM update has been completed.
• Record all your network settings. You will need them to re-configure your phone. The Dopod I got is from Hong Kong and it does not contain any US carrier info. It does not recognize the US SIM card and it would not prompt nor guild me through the settings.
• I have to reinstall the ActiveSync in English. I did the same when I first got the phone so this is not a big deal. Still it takes time.

I ended up replacing the 2577 file on my micro-SD card with a fresh copy from my PC and did a hard reset on the phone without the micro-SD card. Reinsert the micro-SD card later and got all the missing apps back.

I uninstalled the Sprite Backup and reinstalled it from the CD that came with the phone.

I am not sure what this ROM did other than adding that office mobile folder. I did notice when I first install the ROM, I saw 28,XXX kb of Free memory when I click “Task Manager”. Now after I reinstalld the apps, it is showing 22,xxx kb when I turn the phone on and click the “Task Manager”. This is about the same or may be just a little more than before I flash the ROM. I am just not sure.

All that work...goodness. Was it worth it, chompx2? I mean, is the ROM any better?

I had the new ROM installed for a few days now but other than new Office Mobile Folder added, I notice no change. I still have that input problem with MS Live. Even though I've done it, I am not sure if it is worth the trouble.
Well, if one wants the latest and has the time, it is safe to do so. If I were more prepared, it would probably take a little less time. Just remember to remove the micro-SD from the phone while doing the ROM.

Posted by: URPREY

FWIW, I have NOT installed the 2577 updates from Dopod and I don't have any of the input issues people have been complaining about. Not sure if it's related but figured I'd mention it.

Posted by: jonnywifi

Interesting. I'm running the updated ROM from HTC HK, but I do have the 2577 folder installed. I'm now hard resetting the phone with my SD card removed so it won't load the 2577 stuff. Let's see if I can use WLS now....

Posted by: jonnywifi

Bummer. I hard reset with my SD card out, the changed the phone back to US English and reset, the enabled the wifi and downloaded a fresh copy of Windows Live Search from wls.live.com and the input problem still exists on my Dopod C730.

I've also tried installing a fresh .NET Compact Framework v2.0, v2.0 SP1, v2.0 SP2, and the beta v3.0. All exhibit the same input problem on WLS...

Does ANYONE have an idea of how to work around this? Please speak up!

Thanks,

Jonnywifi

Posted by: URPREY

I got the August Mobile Planet newsletter last night, and they had a $20 coupon so I went ahead and ordered a spare battery for $39 shipped. Not sure if the coupon is specific to me or not but if anyone wants it I can post it.

Posted by: jonnywifi

URPREY - Can you post everything you can find regarding your ROM versions and all other versions you can find? If there's a combination that works with WLS, I'd like to get to the bottom of why. The input problem is the only reason I'm still using my BlackJack.

Thanks

is anyone running the "Vito CopyPaste" application on their HTC s630?

I cannot get it to work. I can install it, but it doesn't work at all.

Also, does anyone know of a different copy / paste application?

Posted by: john1027

Go back and read the beginning of the thread and you will come across a post or two from elbow about getting Vito to work. He was even kind enough to make a cab file to make the changes. That was directed to the C730 but I would guess the same would work on the S630.

Attached is a zip file three .cabs inside. Each of these is an easy way to apply a registry tweak:

vitoenable0000101b.cab - lets Vito CopyPaste work
gpscom4.cab - allows a bluetooth GPS that's set to COM4: work w/ Google Maps
cleartype.cab - turns on ClearType throughout the system (the HK C730, at least, doesn't have this enabled by default)

With the Vito tweak, CopyPaste can live side-by-side with KeyTouch MultiPlay. There's no need for a VitoCopyPaste.exe.ini file. The version of CopyPaste I've been using is the prerelease 1.4 build 72 available here: http://valiullin.info/program/VitoC..._prerelease.zip

With the GPS tweak, I've been able to get my Holux GPSlim240 to work with Google Maps.

With the ClearType tweak, the font looks more like on my Dash! (it still looks rather large & bold in the softkey menus, though...)

Please note that I'm not the original discoverer of these tweaks - I just googled a lot of stuff & wrapped them up in cab files. If you want to play around with making your own cab files, use MAKECAB.EXE (a PC command line util, not a smartphone app). It can be had here: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/310618

Take care!

I am not able to get Vito CopyPaste to work on my s630? I've installed the tweak mentioned here and installed the pre-release and it still will not work.

When I hold down the select key, it acts first like I've hit "return" and moves to the next line down. Then my options are "Copy All", "Paste All" and "Selection mode". When I click on selection mode and highlight text, it acts like i've "cut" it and it is lost forever. I am able to do a copy all and then paste.

Any ideas?

Has anyone tried internet sharing the s630 with a bluetooth laptop? 3g is rolling out in my area soon and I am in the process of buying a new laptop w/bluetooth. I'm just wandering if it works and what the speeds are. I would love to cancel my comcast high-speed and use the HTC 3g as a broadband modem.

Any thoughts/advice would be greatly appreciated.

yes i amvery interested in the tethering capabilities of the s630 as well.with the blckjack you have to do it through bt with a workaround/hack but it works.?

yes someone please let us know if it works or other best ways to tether with the s630.

i would obviousy want whtever i replace it with to have tetherin capbility of some kind as well (pref wireless with bt or wifi)

i hve used internt sharing through wifi on a latop to allow a 360 to access the wifi connction the laptop was picking up & sent through ethernet cable from laptop to 360.

i imagine you could use your s630 as a modem in the same way by using inet connction sharing & sending the 3g signal the phone gets to a laptop via wifi.

I use my C730 over BT PAN daily with my HP tablet and it works great. I get about 50k/s speeds. No hacks are needed. I can carry on a conversation using my BT headset while surfing the net on my laptop via BT PAN, and my C730 still gets emails and updates while all that is going on...

Posted by: Beretta1526

Aah, the wonder of the 3G. Great, huh!

50k/s seems slow. Is this with 3g or Edge?

so the cavalier finally hit the FCC.

Posted by: rkdiddy

^ Do you have the link? I'm wondering if it is sporting the 1700mhz band - that would be a good sign it is coming to T-Mobile.

Posted by: MalPraktiz

no on the 1700

it's got GSM850, GSM900, GSM1800, GSM1900, UMTS850, UMTS1900, UMTS2100

see here http://pdadb.net/index.php?m=specs&id=676

hit the FCC? It's a shipping product, and several people on the forums (and elsewhere) already own and use it.. you're a few months behind the times

I meant its fcc approved.

It's on 3G. You asked about bluetooth performance - it's limited by BT speeds and not the phone. Using USB I get about 90-100k/s

I thought it would be quad-band GSM/EDGE and dual-band 850/1900 WCDMA according to phonescoop.com news.

no, it's triband wcdma

even this confirms it http://www.asia.htc.com/asia/produc..._spec.html#topa

Just checking in in case I missed it. Has anyone come up with a fix/band-aid for the text input issue with Windows Live Search?

Please post your notes if you have ideas.

Posted by: IanJames

I've had my 630 for about a month now andI'm getting that itchy feeling and my confidence is BEGINNING to waver. I've had two or three instances where we've had to HARD RESET. Me no likee.

I also want to know if anyone can answer these two questions about WM6: (lord knows Microsoft doesn't have any support/contact info ANYWHERE...)

When I used to have WM5 I was only using POP email and on my device it showed when I had replied to a mail item by the use of a little arrow icon on the mail icon. Now that I'm using an EXCHANGE SERVER account, my device only shows me that an item has been read... AND nothing is shown in the "sent items" folder. What gives? This seems really stupid to me.

Secondly, about HTML email. My email looks like plain text to me and I don't see ANY tab or button to enable it. Once when I was setting up things I remember seeing something somewhere... but - HELP???

Please somebody heeeeeeeeellllllp?

If you have a Dopod C730, you could use "Quick Note" to write. Then use "Cut and Paste" to input to Windows Live Search.

There are options that must be set to subscribe to folders on your device when using Exchange server. By default, to save space, the device only subscribes to the Inbox and keeps the folder current - other folders such as Sent get sync'd up to the server only. I forget exactly where they are, but play around in activesync and you can choose which folders stay current on your device.

Posted by: MalPraktiz

In ActiveSync 4.5 you can do this

1: On your PC open ActiveSync and choose Tools > Options

2: On the Options tab highlight the Email item under the Exchange Server and click the Settings button

3: In the new window click Select Folders and check the Sent Items folder

Posted by: IanJames

And yes it will show me what I've sent BUT is there really no simply icon that indicates when you've replied or forwarded a message?

It seems very strange that POP email on WM5 had this feature but the super-deluxe exchange version does not!!

Any insight on the HTML email functionality? Or perhaps I'm nuts. When I receive an email with HTML graphics etc, I should be able to see them, yes?

You must be syncing with Exchange 2007 for html email to work.

large companies are always the slowest to implement server and backend changes because of the potential risks and impact on existing systems and infrastructure

Has anyone figured out how to increase the font size on the C730?

Posted by: otakuguy77

Ok I am new to the forum, but I have read the instructions for setting up the dash on Cingular. Here are my problems:
1. I have a white and Blue Sim card, I have only seen things for the orange sim card.
2. I set up the internet and proxy as described but I cant get on, except with wifi.
4. My email push is not working.
5. Direct Push is not available in Comm Manager
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

the error i get when trying to access a website is:
The remote party has ended this communication.

That's OK, I use 1&1 for my personal e-mail and this is supposed to be a core business for them and they still have not upgraded to Exchange 2007. Most annoying for us power users.

Tell that to my company 80,000 strong and they are on the bleeding edge of technology in every aspect. They deploy the OS before the service pack arrives. That should tell you something.

Another case is Microsoft, of course, they love beta testing their own software and put it in production as soon as it is viable, way before it becomes a Release Candidate.

Posted by: MalPraktiz

guess your IT has had better luck then my company's IT dept has had in the past

after installing some email server updates over 80% (40,000+) of the company lost access to the email servers, those of us who still had old pop3 accounts were still running while all the poor exchange and lotus users were stuck dead in the water

similar stuff has happened for file servers and network wide routing when updates and new versions have been put into place, forcing my company to adopt a much slower adoption process for new versions and updates

many customers and partner companies I work with do the same for similar reasons

Has anyone here been able to reduce the backlight on this little work of art? I love the thing except for the fact that if turned on at night - it glows like a torch - attracting unwanted attention

Posted by: monakh

Not to stray off-topic but I don't necessarily agree with my company's bleeding edge strategy. After more than a decade in the enterprise IT business I have learned to be conservative but that's just me. We have a top notch Exchange team here and the resources are probably some of the best in the world. Ironic that it is in the Middle East.

Back on topic of the Cavalier, do these minor issues of text entry still persist? I still don't understand why this phone, which I feel is the best of its kind, is the HTC *******-child in terms of support.

From my personal experience, that means you don't have internet access codes on your account.
For (new) ATT SIMcards as well as Cingy cards, you should use the following:
Connects to: the internet
APN: WAP.CINGULAR
Username: WAP@CINGULARGPRS.COM
Password: CINGULAR1

The rest is blank/default. Don't even bother with the proxy unless the cingular sites are important to you (MEdia Net homepage, etc). Config IE to use the standard GPRS connection..

If that doesn't work, you either have an OLD ATT sim (upgrade for free) or you're missing the proper (billing) codes.

Here is a useful link for setting up AT & T Blue Sim card. It is for Blackjack but the setting is the same for Doppd C730 or HTC S630.

thanks, sorry inbox was full, i deleted old msgs so theres room now but i guess too late and hopefuly the coupon code works and not too many ppl use it which would make it not work anymore.

so i can finally order a s630 and not delay anymore as i have a baby on the way and rather get ordering it at least done.

i think i even found an open protective casing to my liking that has a clip so i should be good. Was going to wait for the s730 but its a ways off (stupid vzw may even get a cdma/evdo version first) and its thicker then the s630.

Posted by: martinctv

On my C730 WMU works, and on the S630, it does not. It says server busy or check your internet connections. Update failed! Any ideas?
Thanks

that coupon code was already used and can only be used once. thanks anyway.

I got a good deal though on an s630 close to what it would have been with that discount plus I got a 1gb microsd card.

Glad I finally ordered one as my blackjack is getting old and beatup and this seems like the best choice as an upgrade/replacement for it.

I'm just worried that the s730 is going to come out soon and make me think I should have waited for it, that and the concerns about Windows Mobile Update not working on teh s630 that someone just mentioned as well as a few other concerns regarding the smartphone throughout the thread.

Its prob still the best bet though and i think for me the s630 will be easier to setup and i'll like the looks better then teh dopod c730 (though the wmu thing sounds disappointing and can hopefully be fixed).

plus waiting for the s730 could drag on for weeks/months and its ultimately thicker plus i've located a decent open protective casing with clip for the s630 (the clip being the important part as I was waiting to get one till their was a holster available as I depend on using a holster with my phone) and I dont like the leather cases and pouches.

Seidio.com my holster of choice wont make it until its picked up by the major carriers it seems now which sucks.

besides with a baby on the way any day i had to order a new phone asap and if i sell one or 2 of my old ones i can maybe get the s730 when that comes out too.

they both play .wmv right cus I have a whole bunch sized for pda/smartphone. the s730 will prob be better for video viewing in the landscape mode though i guess to view that you have to have the keyboard open? maybe not i think with my other ppc phones with slide out keyboard and landscape mode you did have to slide out keyboard but for video i thnk it knew to do landscape or you could switch without pulling out keyboard.

I ran this question by a couple Windows Mobile product managers at Microsoft, and they said it is not currently possible to dim the backlight; it's just an idiosyncrasy of the current OS.
