Hi
I am using a D730 with WM6, trying to get my mail and attachments stored on the storage card.
The registry edits for this are working to direct the mail onto the storage card, but when the phone boots up, the storage card does not start soon enough and the mail program creates a "Storage Card" directory in main memory. Then when the "real" storage card starts, the phone renames it to "Storage Card2" which messes everything up big time.
Anyone got any ideas on how to fix this? Please help.
I have tried renaming the in-memory storage card directory to "Storage Card.bak" and rebooting, but then I get yet another "Storage Card" created in main memory in addition to the "Storage Card.bak" and "Storage Card2".

Any one achieved to setup the Internet Calling - VOIP on their Dopod C730?
I have used WM6VoIP.CAB but this doesn't seem to be designed for Smartphones.
Any hints would be much appreciated.

When using either model (HTC or Dopod), does anyone miss the touchscreen & WM6 Professional? Every smartphone I have had I really hated because of the lack of touchscreen (except for the Nokia e62).

I have a friend (phone supplier) who is offering to give me either the Dopod c730 or Motorola Q9H and I don't know which one to take. I am really a fan of touchscreen but I hear good things about the c730.

I just got the Dopod C730, and I am having a problem with the internet. All the other functions work fine, and I can get the internet/email through the Wi-Fi connection, but it says there is a connection error when I try to connect to the internet through AT&T. I upgraded my service to unlimited data/smartphone with AT&T, but this didn't work. AT&T's customer service would not help -- they said they do not support the phone, and it is not compatible with their service. I know that's not true, but I can't figure out what's wrong. The dealer who sold it to me programmed it to work on AT&T, and the settings they put in seem to correspond with everything I could find on the Web. Any help would be appreciates.

I have been playing around with my home screen xml files and added some plugins, but sometimes the phone will not start up after some changes. It's like the xml file can't load yet when I change the homescreen it works perfectly. Each time this happens I have had to reflash the phone, has anyone else had this problem?

It does not matter what kind of data plan you have with AT&T unless you are using the Cingular ISP AP, don't let them fool you

great so it seems that most all merchants HTC S630's are being held by customs for some reason.

can't get one. I wanted the HTC version not the dopod but it seems like it some ways the dopod version is better somaybe just should do that.

I had ordered an HTC s630 the end of August and never got it, the company told me all of their S630 were being held by customs due to some issue even though they have all their paperwork and whatever (customs: all your s630 are belong to us)

so I canceled my order and told them to tell me when they get them in and i'll see what the price is then.

At this point though i'm wondering what are smartphones might be available and have the same abilities as the Cavalier.

I think the s730 is due soon like Oct. 12 so maybe just wait for that.

Any other smartphones or ppc phones like the Cavalier that will work on ATT in the US (i guess they have to be quad band) have 3g and wifi? and a slim form factor.

this would be to replace a blackjack so the form factor is somewhat important but mostly just that it has a good qwerty and 3g and wifi is somewhat important though i end up ony use that at home mostly.

so there is a gsm/umts/hsdpa Q now? the Q9h? that is quad band so will work on ATT in the us? doesn't have wifi though right

what other phones are there at this point similiar to the s630 that one might consider or should i just give up on the htc s630 version and get the dopod c730 version.

Wow this thread has suddenly come back to life. I wonder why the sudden surge of interest in the Cav? What with all the hoopla around the Kaiser's release, you would think HTC's ******* child would be long forgotten.

I think this is a great phone that is being held back by some software issues. It's too bad HTC won't pay attention to it. I wonder if they read this thread? HTC, give us our tweaked ROM without any input issues in .net apps. Sheesh.

kaiser is a totally diff type of phone being larger and being a ppc though right.

if you want a slim qwerty smartphone with 3g and wifi that is quad band to work on ATT in the US, this is one of if not the only choice.

its the only thing really that makes a good upgrade to a samsung blackjack as the s630 has wifi and is overall a good upgrade from a blackjack.

HP is coming out with a new series of Ipaqs, including the 900 series which appears from the various specs released to have everything the HTC has, and more. You can find it on pdadb.net among other places. AT&T is likely to sell it, it is said. It's unclear whether the number will be 910, 914, 912 or whatever. Frankly, it looks great, but it will probably be pricey. The advantage of having a US Carrier pick it up outweighs a lot, in my mind, and I will wait for it, or at least for a while. Also Motorola Q9 Global is coming out at AT&T. This is also very very similar.

The issue was because the US banned qualcom not so long ago and any device that had qualcom chipset was seized. Now the US Government has stoped the "embargo" for the time being and you can get your device.

are the dash MMS settings for AT&T working? I tried using the 3125's settings off of AT&T's site, but they don't seem to work, I might have entered something wrong, also how can I view Yahoo mail's full site? whenver I go there I get MEdiaNet's wap Yahoo site with no option to view PC version, I think I remember with my Blackjack I had to do a regedit to change my mobile ID to windowsPC, and not windows mobile to get it to work, do I have to do the same hack in order to view PC version on the S630?

hey i got this phone last month in hk I have been using it with a silicon case. I was just wondering if there are any compatible leather cases or holsters that I can easily get for the c730 which means I can buy them sat a cell phone accessory store or at pacific mall in toronto without ordering online. Let me know what cases you guys are using. I thought the blackberry 8800 leather cases are compatible with the c730 as their sizes are similar. let me know! thanks in advance

Did any one successfully installed Mapking on their smartphone Dopod C730.
I got a GPS receiver but failed to find a suitable map (Beijing) that I can install on my smartphone.
all maps seems to be developed for PPC...

Thanks for your help and suggestions of maps.

PS: GoogleMap works great but as far as i am aware, don't offer maps with Chinese characters.

Got mine from Paul a couple of days ago. GREAT service as I was able to pick it up within hours in Toronto. He even threw in a screen protector! Great unit that is far better quality than many of the reviews suggest.

Does anyone know how to stream Sirius satellite radio through the C730? I found a couple of links for downloads, but one link doesn't work, and the other one downloads but will not run. It says that it is not compatible with the phone.

I believe the Sirius app is a .NET based app and therefore will only work on a C730 device that does not have the text input problems in .NET based apps. Otherwise, I do recall some people with a working device that did not have any input problems saying it worked.

Forgive me as I'm not a coder nor a power user, especially in the Windows Mobile space. However, I thought .NET was a module that can be upgraded or replaced? Am I right, and can this be done to the core OS' .NET within the C730/S730 ??

yeah but when will the hp 900 series or moto Q9 be out? i need a new smart or ppc phone now as my blackjack is worn & the keybord hs always sucked.

im on it right now btw & its annoying that while other forum sites have a direct link to a mobile version of the page (like avs which isnt even about phones) i find it ironic & inconvenient that hofo a forums about mobile phones doesnt have the same link in email to mobile version of the site. even with 3g the reg version of the site can be long to load. yes i know there is a wap version of the site but no link from email notification to it. who wants to lod the wap site & check every thread you re subscribed to see if there are new replies.

anyway back to smartphones im very frustrated that i ordered a htc s630 cavalier at the end of august, never received it, found out it was stuck in customs & then finaly canceled my order.

now im back to square one. id wait for he htc s730 wings (pref in white) if i had any confidence it was really coming out on oct. 12. but im sure it will be delayed like the rest well beyond that. if i cant get an s630 soon ( i dont really want he dopod version) then ill wait a couple weeks now for the htc s730 but after its delay by then the hp 900 thing or moto q9 will be out & ill prob be due a upgrade credit on one of my lines,heh. (used both on the cing &525 & bj last time when thoe came out) how long have 8525 & bj been out? seems like ages but prob not long enough tha im due an upgrade credit yet. im fine with importing but this new customs delay problem is effed up.

Help!

My Dopod c730 (which I have had for 3 months and has been great on ATT except for the .NET input issue) has suddenly seems to be dying a strange death:

Basically it will no get past that initial "Dopod Enjoy Mobility" screen to start the OS.

I have not a clue what to do...can't "hard reset" from software because the phone is not working.

Of course I am traveling this week, so it couldnt have come at a worse time.

Any suggestions?

You can't replace or remove the version installed on the ROM. But you can install new versions that will live side by side with the one installed when the device is made.

The one limitation is that you can't install a previous version to what is already in the ROM. So if your device comes with .NET CF 2 Service Pack 1 preinstalled in the ROM then you can't install the pre-service pack 1 version of .NET CF 2. You would only be able to install things that come after .NET CF 2 SP 1.

The developer provided a workaround for those having the text input (it opens a text entry box when you click to enter the Captcha code. However, there was already a workaround which was simply to play the audio verification and punch in the numbers.

It works great on my C730 and you don't have to do anything other than install SiriusWM5 from GeeksToolBox.com

Has anyone had a problem with the Dopod C730 suddenly getting very hot? I was in NYC last night, & it picked up the 3G network -- which was great. But then the phone started to get very hot while it was just sitting in the case not being used. Finally, I turned the phone off. This morning, it's back to normal. I am just wondering if anyone else has had this happen.

Is it possible to compile one post with a comprehensive list of cab files, registry hacks, and major customizations - I've read through the thread, but it's hard to keep track of versions, changes, etc.

Perhaps one thread which could be edited by those who create the cabs or found the download links - a one-stop-shop for those who are new to the C730/S630 so we can run through the latest customizations/fixes in order once we receive the phone?

It would be greatly appreciated!

The lack of support by HTC for the S630 is really quite astounding. I called HTC U.S. and spoke with a very nice person who didn't seem to know what I was talking about when I mentioned I had a 630. After I expressed some dismay and wondering how she had ever missed this information on line, it turns out they are in fact well aware of its existence. I told her I was able to register the unit on line through HTC but the model number does not appear. She encouraged me to contact the web master to report this, I guess assuming that if it was addressed from a different angle, it might shed some light on the issue. She also suggested that it might be that this model is just not available yet directly in North America. However, I reasoned, someone at HTC should be able to point to support given the serial number was accepted by the international site. Does anyone have a contact at HTC who might shed some light on this?

I've had my S630 since July and I've all but given up on getting a fix at this point. The issue was brought to microsoft .net development attention and the last I heard was "it was being investigated" and "it looks like an issue with the OEM IME implementation". That said, I've heard nothing more for probably the last 6+ weeks.
The biggest thorn in my side was SiriusWM5 not working, but the dev fixed that for us. I've shelved my S630 for now and I've moved on to a TyTN until the TyTN II/Tilt is available via AT&T. At least AT&T QAs the devices before releasing them since they'll have to support them - so there's a lot less risk of a bug like this being in a final product.

frick all this makes it sound like its not worth getting an s630 now. but im sick of this crappy blckjack that misses letters i type.

wht frigging smrtphone can i get to replce it? i cant believe the sheer lack of choices for someone on att in the us.

i like the look of the htc s730 desite not being as thin as blackjack,cavalier,motoq type smartphones but have no confidence that it will come out oct. 12 or not have similiar problems to he s630.

im ready to get a crappy unlocked iphone with no 3g, but it has no qwerty keyboard & i cant imagine typing on the screen kybrd of it.

what smartphone to get. should i still be considering the htc s630 or dopod c730 or move on & to what then.

Using an HTC S630, is there a way to view yahoo mail's full site, and not the mobile version? I was able to view the full version on my Blackjack after a (long forgotten) regedit that changed windows ID from mobile, to PC, I for the life of me cannot find any info related to the regedit, and can't find it in the registry, can anyone confirm if this regedit works in WM6, or point me in the right direction??

Hey, I am getting Page Cannot be displayed on all of my webpages. This is my 1st HTC smartphone. I used a .cab that I always used for HTC PPC's.

I have the MediaNet unlimited. What am I doing wrong?

hows it going Maevro, here are settings that work great on my C730 (also used these settings with all my PPCs), maybe you can compare them to yours (not sure if there is any difference when checking/unchecking "Automatically Detect Settings" in the IE options...I have mine checked and everything seems to be working fine (Edge and HSDPA/UMTS)...i do not have a data plan though, just pay as i go..., hope it helps

1- GO TO INTERNET EXPLORER, PRESS MENU, GO TO OPTIONS, CONNECTIONS, UNCHECK DETECT SETTINGS, SELECT NETWORK SHOULD BE THE INTERNET.PRESS DONE.

2- GO BACK TO MAIN SCREEN.

3- PRESS START,SETTINGS,CONNECTIONS,GO TO GPRS,PRESS MENU,PRESS ADD, NAME IT MEDIA NET, CONNECTS TO THE INTERNET,ACCESS POINT WAP.CINGULAR,USENAME (ALL CAPS) WAP@CINGULARGPRS.COM,PASSWORD (ALL CAPS) CINGULAR1, PRIMARY DNS 66.209.11.61, THATS IT PRESS DONE.

thanks that is exactly what I was looking for, just tried it, but it doesn't work in WM6, I even went into my Blackjack and used what was in there because it was slightly different, still got the wap page, then I tried changing anything that said Windows CE, then I couldn't connect at all, so I put everything back to how it was, I can't figure it out, full yahoo mail works on my BJ fine, that's my only gripe, wap yahoo mail page, oh well, I guess I'll have to wait until someone figures out the correct regedit for WM6

i'm sure you already know to make sure your typing the full url address www.yahoo.com from the address bar or google (make sure the you click on the one that has the full "www.yahoo.com" address via google search list), then login in to your mail from there....works fine on my C730 (viewing full yahoo mail not the wap version).
If the previous IE browser hack didn't work for some reason you can also try downloading the trial version smartphone version of "Tweaks2K2" (trial) and set IE browser tweak from there....I'm not too sure if there is a IE browser tweak though, but i think there is, sorry, can't be too certain (more user friendly and safer),.... trial can only be used i believe 2 or 3 times so make sure you decide on the tweaks you want and when the trial ends you can remove it from your device without erasing the tweaks you made

Thanks for everyones help. I am normally a PPC kind of guy but I am digging this Cavalier and hope to use it for a while.

What programs are you guys using or recommend? Main programs, not small ones like games. I apologize if you guys spoke about this already.

I installed Resco File Explorer, Resco Registry and Sprite Backup 6. I was thinking of installing Facade because I remember using it on my Blackjack but I am digging the HTC homescreen, I don't know if the Dopod version has the same one so I am sorry if you dont know what I am talking about.

Is there a soft reset program like psShutxp for the smartphone? Also, there is no sleep button for this phone like on the PPC, huh?

I'm sure you'll hate this program because it does not do GPS and requires an active data connection but I would have to say at least give the Map24 Mobile app a try. The reason I love the app is that it provides icons on the map for nearby restaurants, hotels, ATM machines, etc. I'm frequently bouncing between the US, Canada and Europe on business and find this app a life saver when I'm in a new place and need to see what's in the immediate vicinity, and that's even more handy when the local language is not one I speak. It's a beta app still but I like it.

I do know what you are talking about regarding the S630's default home screen layout, I like it as well. I don't really use the appointments (I can remember where and when I need to be places) and the number of shortcut icons at the bottom of the screen is enough for 5-7 things I frequently use so I don't bother using Facade. My only complaint about the default S630 home screen is the icons are on the bottom and every time I go to the home screen the focus is at the top forcing me to click down several times to get to the icons. This is where the icons at top like in facade would be better.

Cool, I will try it. Actually I normally just use Google Maps for stuff like that. I am not a fan of GPS personally, I dont use it. I really have no need for it here in NYC.

If the previous IE browser hack didn't work for some reason you can also try downloading the trial version smartphone version of "Tweaks2K2" (trial) and set IE browser tweak from there....I'm not too sure if there is a IE browser tweak though, but i think there is, sorry, can't be too certain (more user friendly and safer),.... trial can only be used i believe 2 or 3 times so make sure you decide on the tweaks you want and when the trial ends you can remove it from your device without erasing the tweaks you made

yep, I tried that, I manually type in www.mail.yahoo.com, and I get MediaNet's yahoo wap site, there is a MediaNet Home link at the bottom of the page, no matter what, I don't get it?

were you able to view the full site with or without doing the hack?

well i did the hack since i first bought the phone and have had no problems viewing the full yahoo site and email as well, whether it is on wifi or network data....i do not see media net on any of the pages...

just tried the hack again and I still get MediaNet's wap yahoo site??? When I check the address it says http://us.m.yahoo.com even though I manually typed in mail.yahoo.com, so I'm somehow being redirected, if I go to login.yahoo.com it's the full login page, and when I login it takes me to my "my yahoo" homepage, the full page, if I click on the "mail" icon it takes me to MediaNet's wap mail site, if I click on "check mail" it takes me to the same wap site with MediaNet "home" and "add to my favorites" links at the bottom of the page, everyhting works for the full page except mail, maybe it has something to do with AT&T's servers????

anyone get the efficast gprs monitor to work with the c730? i have tried both versions 3.51w and 3.6 and they dont work for me. For 3.6 I can see the Rogers connection, but it does not detect the data usage, while for 3.51w the Rogers connection does not show at all - only the 3 default ones do. Thanks in advance

I use opera mobile on my dash, i like it better than PIE. its a 30 day trial but it is worth it to buy it.

I have the S630. I'm on Rogers, using version 3.6 with no problems.

Some S630's actually are SDHC compatible. They've been tested with 4gb cards. Some you can just pop the card right in and its visible. Others you may have to put in your computer and format to FAT32, just depends on the ROM. You can buy a 4gb microSDHC card from Best Buy and try it, take it back if it doesn't work...

Haha, I am not the only one here.

They are two different phones. The 503 was much taller then the s630. I personally like PPCs better then smartphones but I do like this Cavalier. I love touchscreen phones but the s630 has a really nice screen. The 503 had some issues, but I know there is a new ROM and most might be fixed.

All I know is that I can count on HTC, thats why I am using the s630 and not the 503g anymore.

I'm still dizzy from going through all the posts at once

I'm trying to decide between these two (S630 and C730) phones in order to use it here in the US/AT&T network.

Could you guys post a summary on pros and cons for each phone respect to the other one. Things that are not working properly in one ROM versus the other one, etc, etc.

I have a Dash right now (using it in ATT) that I'm planning to give to my wife. Main reason to get the S630/C730 is 3G and quad band. Faster processor is a "very" nice to have.

Anyway, thanks for your help in advance.

I rest my s630 and it got stuck on the windows mobile screen. I could not get it out so I did a hard reset and it still wont get past that screen.

I dont know what to do.

It happened to me once, I don't know why it needed a lot of time restart. Anyway can you tell me how you did the hard reset when it was stuck on WM screen??? As far as I know, the only way to do a hard reset on a smartphone is through "clear storage".

On my new Dopod C730, the included homescreen settings don't match the options that came with my Sprint Moto Q. When choosing the default layout, the application icons are huge and the "Upcoming Appointments" section is double-high, so I need to scroll down to view my text messages.

Without downloading a non-WM6 layout from a third-party, is there a way to tweak the existing layout to match my Q's settings which have the following:

status bar with time, then network name, then date, then underneath that
small application shortcut icons, then underneath that
profile selection, then underneath that
Email and Text Message status, then underneath that
upcoming appointments (normal height), then underneath that
bluetooth status

My layout might be a customized version from Sprint, but if there is a way to emulate it, that would be helpful for setting up my Dopod. I did a search on the Q device and was unable to find any XML file which had the word Sprint in the file name or contents, and copying the default XML file from the Q to the 730 resulted in an error that the file could not be used.

Thank you! That would be great. Now I'm wondering if there is a way to export the layout settings from my Moto Q (WM5) to the Dopod (WM6), but the trouble seems to be finding this xml file which contains the Sprint layout. If I could find that, it might be easier to update the format for WM6.

I will ask over at the Sprint forum, perhaps someone there knows where it's hidden.

I don't have the phone with me right now to try again, but when I checked it before, pressing any key would tab the cursor to the next box, except a key with a number - and then only the number would print, not the letter. I'm not sure if I hit the sym key, I think I hit a key to the left of the space bar, but it didn't help.

I think we compared versions somewhere in the thread, but the ROM in my C730 doesn't appear to be available anywhere. The Dopod ROM is most certainly different from the S630 though, and from what I've heard you can't use the Dopod rom on the HTC set and vice versa.

The C730 Rom is on the HTC Hong Kong site. You must register your phone in order to get it.

There is a thread on custom ROMs for the HTC S620 in the xda-developers forum. I think this is an excelent opportunity to be able to dump the 1010 ROM so others can try it out.

With out of the box bugs I really havent found any, buts that with the s630 and not the c730. I have found some issues with aftermarket software like Fizz Weather where after a soft reset the phone will not boot up. If I use run my last back up from before I installed Fizz it boots perfectly. Very strange.

I am normally a PPC user but I do like this phone. Its nice to have a phone where you can see the screen in the sunlight as apposed to a PPC.

went in ATT store to get a Tilt today figuring i can get it cheaper then an S630 and the titl being a ppc phone is generally more fully featured then any smartphone like s630.

Plus i played with the dash keyboard on a tmob display in BB (which incidentally doenst have the tilt and i thin they dont get the att ppc phones in BB just smartphones) and i want' that impressed with the tmob dash qwerty. in fact the best one of all the diff smartphones in BB from all the providers was the new Q9 or whatever for vzw. i liked that qwerty the best.

but nothing beats the slide out keyboard of the apache/wizard/tytn/tilt devices.

was going to buy tilt out right but store said they wont sell unless to new contract or renew customes cus its new and they dont have many in stock. Then i get on phone with customer service in the store and they upgrade my one line but then i stupidly had them switch it to the other line and then att store manager says i would have to upgrade my internet plan which would be $20/mo if i get the tilt. i'm like uh no.

i have other non pda phones i use on that linie and i'm not going to pay more. hes like you say you have other pda phones. i'm like no other non pda phones and he slike well all att cares is you have the blackjack on that line and you alrady should have a diff data plan now.

i really dare him to have changed my plan based on that but i said i'm not getting the titl then. i said you wnt from sale for 550 to 399 to 0.

its to the point where i'm goign to have to buy a crappy phone from att set to my line as far as thy are concerned and then not buy any of my smart or ppc phones from teh store. If i want to pay more for data i will use my vzw service for data and is the whole reason i dont.

meanwhile i'm just having my other line authorized for upgrade or the auth switched to that line and then i should be able to get the titl for 299 online price now.

just have to wait a fwe days and though i'm sick of my bj, i can just use my 8525 till then. which ironically the tilt is pretty much teh same and not much of an upgrade. sligth thinner and wm6 yeah but you can add that to the 8525. and tilt has blackberry mail and like maybe one other thing over the 8525 that i dont need but i'll prob get it anyway just cus the price is right and sell my 8525.

its tough, i want the thinnes of the s630 but if i can get a tilt for cheaper and its a mor full featured ppc phone its hard to justify the s630 anymore. if the tilt fits my seidio.com holster for the 8525 that sweetens the deal.

the problem is i never used my 8525 really or took it many places as my main phone as its just bulkier and harder to use as a phone. if the titl had a # pad on teh front then it would be great, but if i want to use an on screen # pad i';d use a crap iphone and slideing out the keyboard to dial a # has always been a problem on these type phones.

but the titl does have them highlighted in blue and though they are sideways i noticed you can slide out the keyboard and dial your # pretty easy with teh sideways #'s and then close it so it may work.

but the dialing and the size is my main concerns i guess for using it as my main phone. see its fine for me to use a ppc phone as my vzw phone since its mostly only for free in calling with fam and some friends so using it as my data phone (email, web etc.) gave it a second purpose and just use my att for all voice is what i used to do, but the better smart and ppc phones on gsm and cheaper data plan made me switch data to att. and besides i use vzw for mobile tv now too to give it a second use but only because im getting paid to review for market research study.

if ever i have to pay mroe for data on att i will be tempted to switch back to my vzw acct for data.

anywa i still not totally ure what to get. I guess its either s630 now and then s730 when that comes out or just tilt now. at which point i prob wont want or need the s730 wings cus the tilt has the slide out keyboard and the s730 will be a downgrade to smartphone.

if is stick with smartphone now in the s630 like i'm used to from moto q and blackjack the s730 will be an upgrde at leat with the slide out keyboard. but if i go ppc its hard to go back to smartphone. you get used to highlighting text, and copy paste just to name one thing ppc has over smartphone.

a tilt for 299 is obviously cheaper then an s630 for $500+ now and 600+ for the s730 in a month or 2.

anything else to consider.

att store tried to tempt me into buying an iphone no contract price. i never would but thought about getting one unlocked. its a slick package but just as i thought the on screen keyboard doesnt cut it for me. i need/prefer qwerty.

soon there will be other phones that take the best features of the iphone and make it much better with 3g and posibly a qwerty to use as an option in additon to the onscreen keyboard.

the nokia iphone like device should be great especially if it has the built in video content access through nokia

Is there a big difference with the C730 and the S630? I have another thread saying that importgsm has the C730 for like $450...and I was originally just going to get the S620 and upgrade it to wm6, but since the price difference is only $50 I figure the C730 might be the way to go?

Anything I should be warned about?

The $50 difference is minor considering the upgrade in the processor and connection speeds. I'd take the C730 over the S620 in a heartbeat, even if it were a $75-$100 difference.

The only thing to watch for is the text input bug. Not all C730's have it, and it seems that all of the S630's have it. You will need to read through the thread (I'd use the search) to find out more about it if you're interested.

I'm not sure. I know that the C730 has a "Quick Notes" app (not voice notes) that is similar to Notepad that the S630/S620 do not have. It's also got a copy/paste/etc app built in that is handy sometimes.

I'm starting to notice the battery on my C730 could be an issue - I say 'could' because the battery indicator on the homescreen drops to two or one bars, but the battery life showing under settings-power management shows much more life remaining, and I'm not sure which to believe.

I've disabled beaming and switched the network to 3G only so it doesn't hunt back and forth - although I guess I can change it to GPRS when I'm not net surfing, and make it 3G only when I'm ready to surf.

However, with that in mind, has anyone tried out an extended battery? I saw a 2000mh battery from Boxwave, but it's so thick! I wonder if another vendor has a slimmer one available.

There is an identical battery for the S630 as well.

One thing I know for sure regarding battery life. Whenever I charge my device through computer I loose a bar or two at the end of the day (GPRS only normaly), but when I plug it on power outlet directly battery life is better.

Some people are saying that there is a bug with Windows Live but I haven't found it yet.

I have to tell you, I am a huge PPC guy. I usually cannot stand not having a touchscreen but this phone really is nice. I like this phone because the volume is at a quality level and you can see the screen in sunlight.

My only gripe is where they put the JOGGR. I hate that my right hand always hits it by accident so I had to change the way I hold the phone. Also, I would like to be able to remap the buttons like on a PPC.

I bought a 6GB MicroSD card and am using it now.

Not Windows Live, the problem is with Windows Live Search from wls.live.com

It's not the Windows Live tool that comes with the device out of the box.

Check it out! http://wls.live.com Live Search V2.5 was just released and it now has voice recognition built in!

Unfortunately, they did not fix the problem typing letters on the Cavalier, but who needs to type when the voice recognition works so well!

HELP! My C730's screen would not go on, even though the phone was on. So I had to restart it by removing the battery and turning it back on. I tried a hard reset, and now it won't boot up. It just shows the Dopod Enjoy Mobility screen for a few seconds, then the Windows Mobile screen for a few seconds, then a black screen for a few seconds, then the cycle begins all over again. Can anyone offer any suggestions?

I found a company that offers extended batteries for the c730. Do you think that this is a foolish idea? I like the fact that they come with a battery door. I'm just concerned that these batteries will fry the device. Has anyone had any experience with Muguen or used these batteries?

I changed the Branding bar and phone dialer screen with the help of xda. I hated seeing green even though I was using a blue scheme.

Just make 2 images and save them as these file names, then copy them into your windows folder using a file explorer. Follow the exact size of the images.

You need to CID unlock your phone first (which is imposible for now). Otherwise you'll brick your phone.

Just got the C730 ... working great so far, love the form factor.... I'm very used to closing down programs with HTC X-Button... is there something similar for smartphones? what's the easiest way besides navigating to task manager and closing?

Oxios Close Apps and Hibernate. They are free, do a search for them.

I'm surprised there isn't a close or exit button for SmartPhones. Most of the apps don't close on their own and I would rather not install yet another piece of software on mine. I use it often enough, that the task manager is almost always one of the first 3 or 4 apps in the MRU.

thanks for this. got it on my ATT Tilt (htc TyTN2/Kaiser) and on my S630 which just came today. They are to replace my cing 8525 (Tytn 1) and sam blackjack.

keyboard is much better on the htc s630 then black jack. screen is bigger tooa dn the phone itself isnt that much bigger. not much wider at all like i expected being the bj is pretty small width across and the dash always looked so wide.

same height almost too as the bj and about same thickness but overall its a littler larger in most dimensions but again teh screen is bigger and nicer. i was sick of the blackjack.

problem is in using the tytn2/kaiser a lot you get used to touch screen again. I wont have any need reallyf or the htc s730. its just a smartphone like the s630 but adding in teh slide out keyboard. the # pad on the front is nice and the tytn2/kaiser could use that but i guess they figure it doesnt need it as it has touch screen # pad, plus the keyboard slids out on teh right instead of left lik the 8525/tytn1 and is therefore somehow easier to see and type the #'s even though they sideways.

if they could make a form factor like the s730 and hae it be a ppc touchscreen (as i guess they dont make a smatphoen with touchscreen cus then its not a smartphone and is a ppc phone) that would be great.

the 8525 was always too bulky so i just alwyas used the blackjack and used the 8525 at home and stuff mostly but then when lazy would just use the bj on Edge then using faster wifi on teh 8525.

now its winter i dont think i need as thin a phone so going to try to use the Tilt as main phone but already when i went out sat night no way was i bringing that to the bar/club so switch back to the bj.

texting in public is kind of more inconspicuous on phoen with qwerty onfront then sliding out eh keyboard and looking like you on a mini laptop though most ppl think its like a sidekick and pretty cool.

anyway i guess first thing i need to do on teh Cavalier is adjust teh settings for ATT. prob at begin of thread? if someone can direct or repost that would be great.

also how do i switch it to 12hr and the date format cus the 24hr time and backwards euro date format with the day before the month (dd/mm/yy 23/10/2007) throws me off.

hm can;t seem to get the reboot .cab file from the megaupload page on teh cavalier itself using wifi.

happy to report letter V scrolls down and R scrolls up on a page cus the jog wheel is a bit finicky but i like the innovtiona and am forcing myself to get used to it and use it. it just sucks how when your handling the phone or even typing on it the jog wheel is so sensitive it starts doing stuff when you just holding it.

i need to get a holster and screen protector for this phone pronto. any suggestions?

ugh can't get the cab on my cavalier, just says the file cannot be viewed on the device. now i'm going to have to do it the non lazy way and transfer it onto the cav somehow. maybe i can email it from the tilt.

the tilt is much easier being from att and already has a lot of links saved to favorites for your weathe and sports etc. much easier but yeah not unlocked and its att branded which i actually dont mind as much as the cingular cus its just three letters.

cool how the att tilt version even has the HTC lettering on the back. no previous model ppc slide keyboard phone by htc on any crrier did i dont think.

oh and my seidio.com holster for my cing 8525 fits my tilt.

For opening task manager, just create a speed dial button for the application. This is what I've found to be easiest. That said, I've re-trained myself away from repeatedly closing apps (a-la WM Pro devices) and allow the internal memory manager to do it's job. I've opened task manager twice in as many weeks.

was pleasantly surprised mine came with a car charge and headphones. came with european/uk regular charger though and merchant through in an adapter. i'm assuming i can use any usb charger though and especially my other htc ppc phone charges like the 8525's.

ended up getting this case with clip cus there is no holster available anywhere for the Cavalier

i think many here said they were using teh ones from boxwave or soemthing for the dash?

i guess the holster that boxwave hsa for the s620/621 (not sure which or if those are the same anyway) will fit the s630 but i heard not as they are diff size/shape.

ended up just getting INvisible Shield screen protector cus with free shipping it was just as cheap or cheaper as ones on amazon. will have to see what all the hype is about with invisi shield.

settings>regional settings, change language to US English, change the short date style appropriately, and change time format appropriately

Man, I've had my C730 for about a week and I've had to hard reset twice. I tried to reboot my phone this morning and its been stuck on the Windows Mobile splash screen for over an hour ... anyone have any ideas about why this happens?

3rd party software set to startup automatically????

Have you hard reset it and not install anyother software and see how it behaves? If it is good then install one at a time till you find the offending software.

The only new thing I installed this time was Smarttoolkit. It started acting up pretty quickly (buttons weren't displaying properly). Maybe I'll just avoid it for now.
