Phone is completely crashing.

Phone is stock... no apps loaded... using only office and phone functions

Screen appears normal and lit but nothing will work, including the power button. Requires a battery removal or soft reset to reactiviate, but this only works for about 20 seconds at best and the phone freezes again.

Tried a hard reset. Didn't boot at first but eventually was able to reset the system. Thought i was good (15 minutes or so of adjusting settings) but could not make any outgoing calls or messages, nor would the phone read the sim data into contacts (even though they were available under the SIM Manager).

then it froze again... back to the 20 sec. pattern.

seems like it's trying to boot up some program or something and it's causing the hang, but that doesn't make any sense.

thought about reloading the OS but can't find the program anywhere, and i figure that's what the hard reset is doing anyways....

any advice?

Just wonder if this is Sim card related. Does it boot and stay working without the sim inserted?

do a hard reset, and update to the lastest rom.

Mike:
I tried pulling the sim card and get the same effect...
I'm able to use the same sim in another phone... but i haven't tried using a different SIM in the 8525 yet

I'm checking out the link you provided for me on another thread... was actually hoping to find that forum... 133 pages... fun...

Wylinn:
I did a hard reset already... by updating the ROM you mean the OS?
(is what i figure i need to do).
Can you direct me on where to find this for download? I'm probably doing the wrong searches and can't locate anything.

sorry for the noob-ness.

To be on the safe side, take it back, if you try to upgrade to latest ROM and your phone crashes then you could end up bricking your phone. Keep it simple at this point, take it back.

Looked into it and i don't think i actually can. I'm from Canada and bought the phone from some guy who picked it up on 'black friday' in Seattle...

So Cingular isn't going to honor any warranty since i never signed up with the service, and i don't have the receipt for manufacturers warranty either... (and not original buyer)...

so really i'm stuck trying to fix this thing or buying a new one i think.

question though:
i had to boot

if you can do the hard reset and keep you phone connect to activesync then you should do the rom update. When doing the manf. rom update you don't need to load any seperate OS.

heres the 8525 rom download: http://www.america.htc.com/support/...-downloads.html

follow directions. make sure you can keep a connection other wise if you stop half way, you will brick your phone like the user above stated. so as long as you phone is charged and can keep a connection you shoulld be good. Let the phone restart on its own.

Thanks for the link.

It seems the problem is related to the radio...
I tried running an RUU from the xda.developers site to upgrade but am having problems maintaining an activesync connection...
the unit freezes out as soon as the utility starts the upgrade...

going to do a little more research and try/retry some different RUU's.

thx for all the help and links so far!

if you haven't already try uninstalling activesync and re-installing it. Keep working on it b/c i know even my phone is good and sometimes it doesn't connect to active sync and sometimes it does. even try another computer if you have it. Good luck!
