$99 - Cingular 8525 (Refurb) on cingular.com (not premiere)

(Click here to view the original thread with full colors/images)

Posted by: kinjal350z

the cingular 8525 refurb is available for 99.99 on the normal website.

Posted by: kinjal350z

I am having problems, because I have a premiere account. So when i log in myaccount, then click upgrade phone, it automatically takes me to the premiere site with premier prices (the 8525 is not available for 99 on premiere)

How can I place my order through cingular.com (rather than premiere)???? I called CS, and they couldnt help me. This offer is online only.

HELP!

Posted by: iDunnolio

I have the exact same problem. How can I order this using premiere

Posted by: yozh

Dam I would never get a refurbushed phone, specially phone like that .

Posted by: lm7

doesnt premiere have it for free for a new one (not refurbished0 with a voice and data plan? I imagine the cingular.com price is under the same conditions....

Posted by: exodusx187

it's free with new activation. i just got off the phone with a cs rep and i'm sending my refurb blackjack back to exchange for a refurb 8525. hopefully they still have the refurb 8525s in stock end of next week

i hope there's a way to get around that because when i was on the phone with the premier rep, he said he couldnt give me refurb 8525 because it's not on the premier site. if i have additional lines under my account, are they premier as well? or is it just my number?

Posted by: jomo25

But this price requires a new 2 year activation right? What's the cheapest the phone can be had for without an activation? THe upgrade price for the refurb 8525 is $599 online, no joke. Heck a new one is only $499. Is there any way to get a discounted one as an upgrade to an existing phone line?

Posted by: Fresh-Popcorn

Thats a freaking awesome deal for the 8525 refurb or not!

I might consider exchanging my blackjack for the 8525

Posted by: zephxiii

WOW, if only i would have waited nothing wrong with refurbished... just might get it with a few less accessories.

Posted by: iDunnolio

bah I want to get one but I can only access the premiere website when upgrading!

Posted by: coldsweat

of course this is heresay, but i saw someone mentioning that the 'refurbished' units are actually the last of the brand new 'Cingular' branded 8525's... so for the time it might actually be a new phone...but who knows... i don't know ****...

Posted by: pen25

easy accessing the site without signing in start a new line then goto the store and merge the accounts.

Posted by: kinjal350z

im just going to call premiere on monday and tell them to take me off their benefits. ill get the 8525 on cingular.com, then resign for premiere. i need to by this phone for work purposes by the end of the month. its 99 on cingular.com, and 250 on premiere (both refurbished).

Posted by: iDunnolio

Can you do that, don't you sign onto a 2 year contract when you sign up for premiere?

Posted by: jomo25

I'll ask again, is it possible to get this phone for $99 without a new 2 yr commitment? I.e. if I am already a Cingular/AT&T customer with an existing contract, what's the cheapest I can upgrade to the 8525 and where?

Posted by: exodusx187

i think it depends on the type of benefits your company has with premier. some can purchase as many phones as they'd like w/o having to extend their contract, while others aren't given that option. when i purchased my refurb blackjack, i had to renew for 2 years.

Posted by: iDunnolio

damn, i just want to buy the phone at the cingular.com price at 99. BAH PREMIERE

There is no need to do this. Just login into OLAM, hit upgrade phone, and it will take you to the regular Cingular.com pricing even if you have a premier account.

Posted by: Jaymcp

Is there any way to get this without having to sign a new 2 year contract?

Posted by: wutitizshorty

i did this on my mothers account, no premier but it took me to the phones but the prices were outrageous
like 499 n 599

Posted by: lm7

so if you log in to premier... sign up for a voice and data plan you get the brand new AT&T 8525 free... if you want you cancel and pay the ETF... you have a brand new 8525 for 175...

I think that is the cheapest way to get one without a contract... when you add to cart it will not reflect the free price of the phone until you add a voice AND data plan...

i have premiere and it took me to the premiere site when i hit upgrade phone, i need it to take me to the regular cingular.com pricing site

Posted by: iDunnolio

I was just on the phone with cingular and they couldnt even order it on the phone since it was a refurbished model. They wouldnt even let me take off premier so that I could order the phone and then put it back on. I guess there is no way we can order the refurb phone at that price if we have premier.

are you going to add a line or get new service?

I guess I dont understand why you want the refurb on cingular.com if you have premier? There is a better deal on a new 8525 on premier...

Wirelessly posted (Mozilla/4.0 (compatible; MSIE 6.0; Windows CE; IEMobile 6.12) PPC; 240x320; HTC_TyTN\1.0 Profile\MIDP-2.0 Configuration\CLDC-1.1)

Premiere: NEW 8525 for FREE.

Cingular.com: Refurbished 8525 for $99.

Why would anyone with Premiere access want the higher priced deal? I'm confused as well.

Posted by: wutitizshorty

well with premiere, they would have to hhave a new account, new service or is that for both deals?

Posted by: kinjal350z

free 8525 with new activation

99 8525 as upgrade

Posted by: jomo25

Can someone explain how to get the refurb'd 8525 for $99 WITHOUT a new contract? I'm not seeing how that is possible...

From what I gather Premier you do not need to sign a 2 year agreement where as the regular customers like me is required to sign a 2 year agreement.

I jumped on the refurbed 8525 /$99., for that price I could not resist.

Posted by: properbostonian

Hey guys,

First time post.

My two year contract is up and its time for a new phone. I am considering the 8525 refurb or the blackjack - both from Cingular. Would you guys consider a refurb phone? At $99 is seems like a great deal. I can get the blackjack for the same price. Both prices assume a two year contract.

Thanks,
Danny

well this is from the premier site:

Pricing valid only on Premier. New activation and 2-year agreement required. View Pricing Details

so that cant be true.

Posted by: iDunnolio

So can I just sign up for a new line on premier and then merge it with my current accounts.

Posted by: JTruff

does anyone know which data plan comes with texting services? I know which one the smartphone package comes with, but for soem reason the 8525 doesnt all the smart phone plan???

Posted by: dstrauss

Well, wish me luck. I just ordered the 8525 for one of my upgrade eligible lines, so I guess I'll see if a "refurb" is risky. Sure looks like a nice upgrade over my replaced 8125.

did you order thru your premier account or thru the regular cingular.com website?

Posted by: exodusx187

looks like the refurb 8525 is on premier now. i had another line on my account that was eligible for an upgrade and went ahead and placed the order. hopefully it goes through! *crosses fingers*

There are Premier accounts that get upgrades without signing a new 2 year. I suppose its dependent on the level.

Welcome to HF,

I have the refurb BJ right now and it works as new, looks like its new (except the white box it came in), and smells new.
If you do get a junk refurb just do a XBM (exchange by Mail)

If you don't need all the bells and whistles of the 8525 then the Blackjack will serve you nicely.

For me coming from a old SX66 and the 8125 I missed my full Pocket PC but the Blackjack is a really nice device.
Battery life is horrid though.

Posted by: lm7

the $99 refurb 8525 is now on premier as well... better get one while they last.

Posted by: zachusaf

Just to add my 2 cents...

I have a regular cingular/att account. Went to the USAF premier site, entered my existing number and identfication, and hit upgrade. Got the $99 refurb 8525, no mention of having to do a new activation or agree to 2 more years....

Monthly bill got cheaper, even with PDA unlimited and I finally get rid of the damn Sync

Not to go off topic, but get the larger battery (it really makes for a nice looking device witsolid area across back rather than the camera hump sticking out like a sore thumb) AND shut off 3G unless you are in a solid 3G area (seems to drain the battery dry trying to find and lock in a weal 3 signal).

im confused I thought that in the past you have been able to order off premier without extending your contract... i can find no where on my premier account that states it requires a 2 year contract but the click to chat support as well as phone support people have claimed this...
so to anyone who order the $99 8525 does your account status in OLAM show a new upgrade date?...
I dont want to waste my upgrade before the kaiser or at least looking at the iphone but the $99 made me think. ..
thanks for the info...

Posted by: Markdcv

Can anyone tell me if these 8525's come with the cingular or AT&T logo?

Posted by: exodusx187

i'll let you know tomorrow when mine arrives

Posted by: christogq

Just returned my refurb 8125 today and ordered the 8525. $99 is what they charged me.

Posted by: choiza

I recently ordered a 8525 via Premier for $99. My question is:

It appears I can order another phone at the discounted prices, i.e. another 8525 for $99. Is this legitimite? If so, I want to buy a BlackJack as well for the heck of it. I can imagine people buying a ton of phones and selling them on eBay or something. Can I supposedly get unlimited phone upgrades?

Posted by: LocoStrange

I just bought the phone last week for 299. Will they credit me the difference? If so, what can I do? I called CS and she said I have to return the phone and buy another one

Posted by: gazoo66

I checked last night and it's $99 for me for a refurbished 8525 and UPGRADE ONLY NO PLAN UPGRADE REQUIRED

I believe it depends on your premier site parameters. I am still thinking about jumping on this but I just got a blackjack 4 days ago and I'm pretty satisfied with it. It was $50 refurb last week for me although it did NOT come with the extended battery and I had to buy that extra (came with 2 standard batteries and the IMEI was not on the upgrade qualifying list).

Oh, it shows I can upgrade again too btw. I read in another thread where a guy has bought 12 phones last year on the premier website without plan extension. Apparently I can do this too - seems to depend on your company's contract with them.

I'm on the $19.99 mediamax plan to boot. I just change the phone back to my original phone, the 3125 in case there are any inquiries. I also kept the 3125 around in case of emergencies.

Posted by: roybot3000

OK guys here's my issue...

I just got a blackjack from walmart upgrading one my lines for 2 years. Is it possible to return that phone back to walmart and still be eligible for an upgrade so that I could get the $99 8525 from cingular.com as an upgrade there?

Posted by: roybot3000

nm...i got my answer in another post

I was able to purchase it on the Premiere site on 06/12/07 for $108.33 inc. tax. It was an upgrade only, as I just upgraded on Cingular.com back in Feb-07. I got free two day shipping should get the phone on the 14th.

Each company's discount and associated bennifits, like how often you can upgrade can be different. When I was in training at Cingular they showed us where you could find (internally) infomation on discounts, and bennifits for each company, the listing was quite long.

When I went through OLAN, I was told my account was not elegible for an upgrade, which I knew, because I got my 2 year upgrade in Feb-07. But, when I go and log into the premeir site, put in my wireless number, and account number, ect - I was able to order the refurb 8525 for $99 without any problems.

Just got my 8525 in the mail today! and yes, it's Cingular branded. this phone has way more features than i need, but s#it....for $99 i couldnt pass that up lol. oh, 1 quick question....do i need to leave a sim card in the phone while i charge the battery for the first time?

Congrats!! Mine will be here tomorrow .. hate waiting what came in box? also don't forget you can download the newer AT&T branded ROM on the HTC support site. the site has the instructions on how to flash the ROM as well as other files for your PPC.

Posted by: jomo25

Thanks for the help...I also found out my company does have a deal with Cingular/AT&T and was able to sign up via Premier. I see that I CAN order the 8525 for $99 that route WITHOUT extending my contract (with the same 2 day shipping). I'm deciding to either do that or just wait for the Kaiser.

So I have 2 questions:
1. Is there a WM6 upgrade for the 8525 avail yet, if not any estimates when?
2. If I do upgrade now to the 8525, will it in any way affect my ability to buy a Kaiser down the road pricewise? I.e. is there an "upgrade limit" on Premier of any kind?

Thanks again!

You need to ask your AT&T Mobility account rep or your internal representative, as each FAN account contract can be different. For example , one company I worked for had a 2% discount, one had a 18% and the current one gets a 24% discount and allows 'no limits' (supposedly) on upgrades.

I got mine yesterday...it came with Cingular branding, a charger, USB Cabe, Y cable, Intro CD and ear phones. Not to shabby for $99 bucks! Get them while you can!

Thanks for the info! I know I need the USB cable to do the ROM upgrade on the HTC site. I've been looking on the premiere site for days, thinking that maybe the N75 would show something besides 'out of stock' whhen I say the 8525 for $99. I thought 'how did i miss this?' - thought about it for about a day, then ordered it - good to know I didn't miss it. It was also strange because the refurbed 8125 was sold out and the $249 8525 new was sold out so I couldn't figure out why this deal wasn't ! I didn't occour to be that it had just been posted that day- da! LOL.

Posted by: jomo25

Does the 30 day return policy still apply also? I'm not 100% sure if I'll dig the form factor, but I figure for that price, I can try it out and make sure I'm good with it before plunking many more hundreds for the Kaiser sight unseen.

The deal is just too good to pass up I think. And I do miss the full WM version (vs. the SP WM version on the BJ.) But I'd still like to have the possibility of changing my mind if I don't like it.

there is no official upgrade to wm6 and there are no plans to offer one. thats not saying htc may not offer an upgrade to wm6 for tytn owners. if yuo have never updated a ppc phone before using a non-oem rom and yuo can afford to brick the phone with no way of getting it recovered then you can ask for a suggested place on how to do the upgrade. if you dont want to risk it then dont. cause if you brick it yuo wont be able to get it repaired. well it wont be under warentee at least.

as for # 2 it wont prevent yuo from buying the kaiser but you have to wait for the upgrade to come around.

No, you can leave the sim card out if you prefer.
Remember that you can still use the device without a sim card, you just won't be able to make any calls or get on the internet unless your using the wifi.

I see there's a ROM update on the HTC site to "upgrade" the Cingular ROM, but would that include PTT?

Yes the 30 day return policy should remain in effect even on refurbs.

I had my Black Jack for 2 weeks (refurbed one) and exchanged it for the 8525 on Monday. It came in the mail today and enjoying full WM again.
I still love the size of the BJ but for what the 8525 does and for the price it was a no brainer.

Its not as pocketable as the BJ but my holster looks much better than the monster I was using for the E62.

Dude, I think you are wrong about the 'upgrade' My friends still at Cingular tell me they've been told there is a WM6 update on the way. and the HTC support site has the latest ROM upgrade with AT&T branding avail for download.

If you read the notes just above the link to download it says it adds PTT functionality, cellular video, changes 'wireless modem' to 'connection sharing', ect. HTC's site can be a bit confussing at times as thier gramatical structure is not always easy to follow.

So how's the ACTUAL phone like? The word "refurb" makes me a little uneasy.

Well, it still does appear to be available for that in my Premier site. But in any case, I'm glad I did place th eorder about 90 min ago. I think the deal was just too good to pass up. I do think also this is clearing out old inventory with the rebranding to AT&T and also for the next wave of phones, e.g. Kaiser. I'm still not sure how much the Qualcomm ban will affect timing of releases if at all. I guess I'm still expecting the ban to be relaxed, vetoed, or resolved altogether...

Mine seems to be brand new with no issues. I do think that they are just trying to clear out the phones that have Cingular branding on them. I downloaded the new ROM in 10 mins and had no problem. I am loving this phone so far!

mine looks brand new. my past experiences with any refurbished items have been pleasant ones. my recent refurb blackjack looked perfect. i purchased a refurb iPod nano a few months back and it looked brand new and still works fine today

Posted by: Drodri18

Took the plunge. Got it for $99. Now when I go look, it says $199. Maybe it's just me. But wow, I am super happy if it goes up to $199 and I was able to snag one for $99. My thinking would be if it was a real Refurbished, it would come in a generic box. But if it came in the regular Cingular packaging, it should be a brand new one and AT&T is really just clearing stock of the Cingular branded phones. For the people that got theirs already, what packaging did they come in? Any pics?

Posted by: ocbaud

oh wow, i just had to jump on this. for $99 i cant go wrong.

I guess AT&T had left a cookie on Firefox cause when I rechecked on Firefox it said $99 on their ad and when I clicked it to view the phone, it would say $199. But now that I went on Internet Explorer, the $99 is still there, even after I click the ad. Either way, if I was on the fence about getting it or not, I'd wanna go ahead and do it before it's too late. Can't wait for it to get here! I went to a AT&T store during my lunch break earlier and played around with it a little bit. Seems VERY nice. The internet was very fast. I did a speed test and I got about 850 kbit/sec on the 1MB speed test at http://www.dslreports.com/mspeed. Did the same test on my 700WX on Sprint EV-DO and I only got around 250 kbit/sec. I'm not sure if it's like this everywhere, but Sprint service has become crap here in Dallas. I used to constantly get 3-4 bars of service when I first got the 700wx in October. EV-DO speed WAS great, 600-800 kbit/sec. Now I rarely do more than 400 if I'm lucky. Get dropped calls more often than before. I thought it was just a temporary thing but it's been going on the last few months. My girlfriend has a Samsung A640 and she's said she has similar problems. Here at my house she used to get strong signal but hasn't for the last few months. One of the things that has always bugged me about my 700wx (besides the fact I couldn't be on a call AND use data, thank god that'll be fixed with the 8525!) was the fact that the 700wx never worked properly with Call Tones and Picture Mail while the 700p was perfect in the sense. I've read a few reviews for the 8525 but nothing mentioned Cingular Media (such as Picture Mail and Call Tones). How does the 8525 stack up when it comes to that?

looks like it's $199 (refurb) on the regular site, but still $99 for premier members. someone mentioned in another post it's going for $149 new on amazon

id tell you that too to get rid of stock and i had a reason. at&t will delay the official release for months so they can test it. when that happens a new phone might be out and its not in thier intrest to offer an upgrade to an older phone.

Any idea how long will the $99 refurb promo stay around for?

got my 8525 today, it's charging, looks like a new phone came with all the stuff it is supposed to come with, only it was in a white box with a single sticker on it that said cingular wireless. I haven't found any sign the phone has been previously used. It even came with the new AT&T blue SIM card.

Wirelessly posted (HTC-8500/1.2 Mozilla/4.0 (compatible; MSIE 5.5; Windows CE; PPC; 240x320))

Just got mine today.

I like using the clarivue screen protectors.
the are made really good and they last a long time.
pretty easy to clean also.

just make sure that the surface is clean from any lint or specs of dirt. it will show everything.
Even a small dust particle will cause a air bubble that wont go away.

Ok I just realized mine came with another sim card. There is a note saying that I need to call in and activate it. Do I need to use the new sim card? My old one seems to be working just fine.

AT&T ships phones with the new SIM installed. YOu can replace it with your current SIM, or you can call CS and give them the number off the SIM and they can activate it for you. If you do decide to use the new AT&T branded blue SIM, be sure to copy your contacts off your current SIM to your 8525, as after that SIM is deactivated you may not be able to access the contact information.

Also, I notied that the premiere site now is advertizing a refurb. PDA Sale on its opening page, but when I go down to the refurb 8525 it doesn't say 'PDA SALE' like it did last night, and the Price is now $199. Also the E61 refurb does say 'PDA SALE' and has a price of $29 and last night it didn't say anything about a sale and was FREE. I'm nust glad I got my 8525 before the price went up

Posted by: choiza

any benefit or any reason to use the new SIM card, or activate the phone instead of using my existing SIM card?

Also, did you guys get a holster for your 8525?

i ordered one of those leather cases off ebay. now i just have to find someone who will insure my phone lol

Posted by: harlenm

Im glad I got in on this deal when I did. For $99 I was able to get a backup for the phone I paid $600 for.

No reason to have to worry about insurance anymore.

Posted by: Keysten

Go on ebay for cases...there are tons on there a good prices!

Posted by: bowulf

It's definitely $199 in Iowa at this point -- no price change at checkout here.

Posted by: harlenm

Apparently, it's $99 for new activation on a separate line. Upgrades and family talk line additions are $199.

Crappy deal if you ask me.

Posted by: Drodri18

The AT&T website is really screwy. You can still get the deal, but it all depends on how you navigate the site. Sounds weird, I know. But if you go to http://www.wireless.att.com/home/ and click on the blue PERSONAL button, then wait for the flash animation with the refurb. phone sale ad, then click on the 8525 for $99 and add your plan and everything, then it comes out for $99. Now if you do it another way, like click on Shop and go to phones and check refurbished phones, then it'll be $199. Atleast that has been my experience.

Posted by: boiler94

I called AT&T and asked why the main site showed refurb $99 and my upgrade showed $199. She told me it was an online thing. I told I didn't think she really understood the situation. Finally she entered my zip to see what was showing up for my area and then logged into my account. She couldn't figure it out so she put me on hold and got somebody in the online department who took my order to upgrade my 2 phones, but still keep my existing family talk plan. The online lady said that she was showing everything to be $99 and didn't know about the $199 until I happen to mention it. I would call in and speak to somebody if you are trying to get the deal. The premiere still has free 8525 with a 39.99 plan and data plan. I almost did that deal except the wife didn't want to change numbers or plans.

Ive got two questions for those of you who got this deal and already received and activated your phones:

1) Can you go into your account and switch the data plan to the $19.99 MediaMax 200? Is it even an option?

2) Another question about the Free 8525 Premier deal. Has anyone tried opening a new line with the free 8525, and then canceling the data feature and moving the account to an existing family plan. Would Cingular allow that at all?

Thanks.

Well, so far so good. Having a little trouble switching the brain from Blackjack (smartphone) mode to full PPC on the 8525. Looks branfd new to m - not a single scratch or scrape; peripherals and cables look like they've never been out of the bags.

It's hard to get used to no keyboard for dialing - really not so much for physical number dialing, but so easy to get contact info by simply typing first few letters of name on the BJ keyboard as opposed to the onscreen keyboard of the 8525. A little like a small brick compared to the BJ as well.

HOWEVER...overall great little piece of hardware. Typing messages/emails on the larger keyboard a joy...and for $99 how can you go wrong. Hope all of you can still plug into this upgrade special.

I'd like to know that as well. Right now that's holding me back.

i got a a free 8525 with a new account. when i received it i canceled the media package and then had them merge it to my existing family plan. all it cost me was the activation fee. happy with a 8525 for $36 total.

Posted by: chernomorez

I wonder if you can do the following to keep your # with the new free 8525:

1) Open the new line and get the free phone
2) Cancel the data plan and move the new phone to a family plan
3) Swap the phone numbers between the two plans
4) Cancel the old out of contract line (the one that has the new number)

Looks like the refurb 8525 are out of stock on Premier. I noticed a similar pattern on the refurb blackjacks when they were like $99. Right before they went out of stock the price went up, once they were back in stock the price was back to the low price. Hopefully it will change with the 8525 as well.

Posted by: chernomorez

a bit off-topic, but can anyone still sees refurb blackjacks for $49 on premier?

Posted by: Midnightkiss

Got my reburb 8525 for 99 bucks. Sold it on craigslist for 350. Mmm tasty profits.

Posted by: chernomorez

Now the deal is totally dead....
