Edge Icon on dash

Hey everyone,
I am using an HTC s621. Does anyone know what the E icon is in the status bar? Also the scroll arrow icon that is directly to the left of it? Am i using an Edge connection with this icon here? Can i get rid of it?

the E would be the Edge connection indicator. i dont know about removing it though without a registry hack
