Simple Freedom Is Changing to Alltel U

Simple Freedom is being converted to Alltel U. See link, below.

http://www.simplefreedom.net/Simple...m/uprepaid.html

I have a phone with Simple Freedom, already, and have reactivated another, just to get it on Alltel U, without the $35 activation fee.

If you attempt to activate on the Simple Freedom site, it will now direct you to call a CS number. They will ask for your name/address/home phone number from the Alltel area. I just looked up an address/phone number from the Alltel Store Locator, and made one up, from that. They will want to do a *228 update, just say it isn't working, and get the manual programming procedure.

Ok, is there some sort of freebie / no fee thing I can get signed up for here? alltel is strong around here, was thinking of going with their prepaid plan but the startup fee killed it for me, plus them wanting you to buy their phone. I have a Moto T720 that is an expired Alltel phone, could I activate that with simple freedom, then get transferred over to alltel, for free?

The Simple Freedom web activation only accepted the ESNs of SF phones (new or used). Now that you have to go through a rep, I can't say if they check the ESN for SF. The activation number now seems to be used for both SF and Alltel U activations. A SF phone will get 120 free starter minutes (with code shown on SF website). You can probably activate another Alltel phone, but will have to buy your first set of minutes, at activation. I don't know if the rep will also charge the $35 at that time, for a non-SF phone. You can try it, and post back your results. That said, if you are in an Alltel area, the Moto W315 SF phone is only $40, at WalMart. In any event, I suggest calling 1-800-335-6401 for your activation.

Tried activating the old T720 by calling their center but chickened out - they wanted personal information so I hung up, did not want to give all that info and then have them say sorry, you have to buy a simple freedom or alltel u phone...

after July 1st all of Simple Freedom will be Alltel U.

sledhed you should have no prb activating an Alltel T720, we do 3 or 4 of then a month at my store on pre-pay. is is after all an Alltel phone.

Are there any plans to make any changes in the Alltel prepaid
plans?

Do you need to be in an Alltel area to activate a Simple
Freedom phone now?

Actually I am in a Midwest Wireless area and am thinking
of getting Alltel prepaid when the Midwest Wireless is
integrated into Alltel. When will this happen? Would there
be an advantage to getting a Simple Freedom phone now and
activating instead of waiting (saving the $35 activation fee???)...

Did they have to pay the $35 Alltel's activation fee ?

i want to do this, and once it switches over get on the pay per day plan. so can i do it and not have to pay the activation fee? i have an old moto 120 or i could buy a phone but only if absolutly necessary. what is the cheapest SF phone, i will have to go to walmart and see. basically, once it switches, will i be able to get on the Pay per day and get unlimited text and favorite # calling.

Update: they didnt let me activate my 120, they said visit a store, should i try a phone i buy at the store? or should i go to a retail store? i really dont want to pay that activation fee, and the cost of the darn phone is only $5 More than the U activation charge, and i can wait a month to get on U if it eliminates that $35 charge plus the $20 inital balance plus a $30 phone if i wanted it, to be able to get that all down to $40 including a better phone.

So if you have simple freedom already can you activate an Alltel phone on your account.

well, it seems like for them to be able to do it for free and on the phone, it must actually be a simple freedom phone.

does anyone know when they will let me select the pay per day if i were to actually activate on simplefreedom now?

I think the actual conversion will be around July 1, so you could probably change plans after that date. Does your local WalMart have the $40 Moto W315 SF phone? Seems like a good deal, and then you could get the free activation and free 120 minutes. Used SF phones are somewhat scarce on eBay, lately, and after paying shipping, would be about the same cost as the WalMart phone, anyway.

yeah i saw the moto at walmart today, and it looks good. does anyone have any comments about this phone, how the RF, call quality, and other stuff like that is. i would be using the phone for calls and text, with some IM also.

It just so happens that the SF phone I activated (successfully), had a problem with reception, so I called today about changing the ESN to another phone I had (non-SF/Alltel). The rep took my new ESN, without question, and no charge. I manually programmed the new NAM (phone was subsidy-unlocked, and I was not in an Alltel area, for *228), and it was good-to-go!

No, when i had Alltel I would ESN swap to my Verizon branded LG VX6100 and to my Alltel phone every week or so with no problems or charges.
