Thanks to Pinstackers and Blackberryforums.

Posted by: jrwoods

That is nice stuff. Makes me want to get a curve now...

Posted by: gregosdge1

wow i want that program so bad, i hate the e-mail the way it looks on the BB, that is a cool program.

Posted by: wxboss

Yeah, I missed their beta testing window by a measly 3 hours

I can't wait to see this app become available!

Posted by: bfree9102

Any Idea when this will be avaliable

Posted by: davistld01

I'm not one to load a device up with useless apps that I will never use, so I actually only have a few that make my life easier...

...THIS program will be my next purchase! I love the instant "push" email of the BlackBerry...but I hate the way email is presented. This program will be a total night-and-day difference.

I can't wait!!

Posted by: docvenom04

Can't wait. This will look great when i get my 8320 (hurry up TMO)

Posted by: trevor1189

Wow I would seriously consider this as long as it doesn't effect the way the email is delivered. (Same message folder, instant push, etc). I hope this comes out soon.

Posted by: IanHummel

I agree Trevor. If I have to open up a new program and import my mail into that in order to view it in the "new" format, it will be a no go for me. If this is somehow an add-in that makes my e-mail from my InBox now HTML, I will for SURE buy it.

Posted by: Slider76

I like what I see but I will be interested to see how it affects data usage.

Posted by: soxfan2003

any beta testers out there with any comments so far? looks awesome. As said before, hopefully it's an invisible plug-in that only renders the existing mailboxes and doesn't require using their mailbox.

Posted by: MobileTelly

This program does not do html emails....read the description carefully.

This is another concern of mine. Will downloading all those pictures in the email cause data usage to skyrocket?

I asked about implementatation of this, and over a BB forums they said it uses the existing messages folder.

Posted by: SSpiro

Wow, this looks great.. but I don't see where it mentions HTML emails?

Posted by: trevor1189

That is like the whole point of the program look at the pictures. You can see html is converted in the after shot.

Posted by: Legaleye3000

I wonder if this will be a "plugin"??? If its a whole separate program I have to open... I don't know....

Posted by: IanHummel

It is incorporated into the regular blackberry mail. It is not a seperate external program. If you go to the website you can view the pictures that clearly show it incorporated into the mail options screen that is accessed from the inbox.

Maybe try reading the thread. It is not that long.

The porgram appears to open up links sent in emails, The developer has clearly stated on the blackberryforums website that it is not a html email program.

As a beta tester I can say that the program stays on my 7130e, is now my default email viewer, and I would pay for the program to have the functions available. Another word I use alot in describing the program is WOW!

Any idea on release date?

Posted by: davistld01

I was groaning and moaning about the sorry way Blackberry displays email today...it's the only thing that would make me consider returning to the Treo.

I hope that this program is available for sale soon. I will be first in line...!!!

Hi All!

I'm eZainny, founder and lead developer of BlackBerrySmart. I just noticed this thread today when I did a google of my company name (Come on, everyone is allowed a bit of vanity every now and again right?) and found this site.

Anyway, just wanted to pop in and say hello and let you know that you can ask me any questions you may have about the application here if you want.

Also, at the moment we are getting ready to launch this onto the market so it shouldn't be too much longer to wait! We've been pushing hard to get this out because we know how excited some people are and I promise the wait will be worth it

EDIT: I should just note also that at the moment, I get ~200 emails a day so please don't be offended if you don't get an immediate response. My priority is on getting this out and I am doing my best to get back to everyone but I'm just one guy

Cheers,
eZainny.

Could yuu explain how is the email programs works vs the regular bb mail. Like do I have to open a seperate program or will it convert within the email automatically......

Posted by: nickp

I think it would help eveyone if you addressed specifics mentioned in this thread regarding "true" HTML, plug-in, etc...

Thanks in advance ...

Posted by: trevor1189

This will be a plugin. I asked about it over at Blackberry Forums. They said it utilizes the existing messages folder and the programs settings will be under the messages program that comes with the bb.

This has been answered in this actual thread.

There's another program out there thats being developed as well called Blackberry Empower. It has HTML e-mail viewing as well as a built in spell check among other things. You can check it out here:

http://www.blackberryforums.com/aft...ha-testers.html

Posted by: eZainny

My program actually does a lot more than just "HTML" email viewing.

Head on over to the following forum:
http://blackberryforums.pinstack.co...ew_email-3.html

where I made a post recently in response to alwaysbelieve1 discussing some of the other features this program has.

Also, be sure to check out the review recently done by berryreview:

9/10!

Thanks,

I have posted this on BBforums as well and no one else has these issues, hopefully someone here can shine some light on the problem.

One big question out there to people who have this..

I could not for some reason in my life get my email program to let me reply to messages when viewing them in SmartView.. I worked with eZainny with about 50 emails of me trying different things, I did not post this up because no one else had this issue and I didn't want it to seem like there was a problem with his application. I have wiped out my device this morning and installed his application as the first thing after registering OTA. When I hit the reply button a box came up and said "No messenger service has been set up, you will only be able to save a draft". Can anyone help me out figuring out what the hell this means? This is the reason why I reloaded it, no matter what I did (reply to all or reply) within SmartView I could never SEND, I could only save draft or full menu (which did not have send as an option). If I open any email without Smartview and hit "r" for reply, I can send all day. Does anyone have any clue how I can fix this??? Thanks.

Hopefully to give more information, I am using BIS and just a gmail account that's it.

eZainny and I have tried numerous things, wiping out the To: field and rewriting the email addy.. using CC .. many different things did not change the fact that I can only save draft if I view it in his program!

I just installed the trial on the Curve and I'm having the same issue.

Posted by: plessdude

I am having the same issue as well.

Posted by: cmatthews

I hope this gets resolved, when it does I will be purchasing it, other than that one flaw it's awesome!

Posted by: dicin

I have been using the trial version on a BB Pearl 8100 on FIDO using BIS with no problem! Anything I should know before I purchase the application?

Thanks,

Posted by: trevor1189

It turns out reply function doesn't work for OS 4.1 or lower. No reply action on my 7250,

I have to actually back out of the program anytime I want to send a reply and use he crappy built in messaging system.

How long will the trial version work?

1 ... How do you enter the activation code.

Hi dicin,

Thanks!

You don't have to uninstall the trial version - From my email view screen, there should be an "Activate!" option in the menu - select that and you can enter your activation code there to unlock the full version. Feel free to email me at support@blackberrysmart.com if you need any assistance.

Hi All,

Just wanted to let you all know that version 1.1 is now up. This includes several minor bug fixes and also should fix up the reply related functionality.

In particular, when you reply now it should now use the correct blackberry email account to reply with and also for the couple of people who had the problem with "Send" not showing up in the reply compose screen this should no longer happen. Fingers crossed that we've nipped this one in the butt for good!

Long day It's almost 2am here in Aus at the moment! But I do it for the love of the BlackBerry (and with the goal of providing the best possible support to users)!

Cheers,
eZainny.

Version 1.1 fixed my not being able to send email on the Curve. Awesome product! I would love to see more font options in version 1.2.

I know I was hoping for a week atleast. I mean Jivetalk trial is 30 days. It isn't really possible to test a program in 2 days. You need some time to wait and see if errors show up. If your like me, you get most of your email during the week, so by the time I will be getting enough email to thoroughly test it, the trial will be over.

Posted by: RhOd15

The product looks pretty good...
IMO, it does a great job of making emails more eye friendly for sure.

One problem I am having is that my connection settings aren't working (I assume this option is for downloading the pictures into the emails).
There are 3 connection options: BES, TCP/IP, WAP... none of these work in mine. I'm on a BIS using Cingular (AT&T) and even when doing a custom WAP connection it doesn't work using Cingular's APN settings. Oh, using the Curve btw.

Anyone else experiencing this, I'd like to get this fixed before I make the purchase. Please help if you are on Cingular and able to connect successully.

A couple other minor things...
When hitting the back button out of an email it goes from the bbsmart view into the original email. So you'll have to hit back twice to get back into your inbox.
When deleting an email it doesn't give you an option to delete from mailbox&handset or just handset.

Posted by: dicin

I have to say this software is absolutely outstanding!

Posted by: tDAWG

Its not fair I cant download this

Posted by: cmatthews

Since upgrading to 1.1 and spending a couple of hours of trying on the options, it seems that everything works perfect now. This is a outstanding app!

Posted by: tDAWG

If Rim was smart, they would buy out this software and intergrate into their OS. I havent tried it and I so ready to get it now. Maybe on the OS 5.0 they will html support

Posted by: hansenc

Any way to make it so when you click on the esc or back button it goes to the message list and not the old view of the message?

Posted by: carsmovies

It's working for me for the most part but it won't let me show images and I get an error message saying that my network settings are not set up correctly. I've gone through them and they seem to be fine but are set up through wap and not TCP. Anyone else on Rogers able to get this working 100%?

Posted by: dicin

On FIDO you use TCP!

Hold the Escape button for a second or so - it will back all the way out to the folder list - bypassing the "old view" entirely.

Any setting to change it so you don't have hold it down for a second? I'm so used to just clicking the button to go back to the list.

Anyone else getting multiple Re: in the subject line if replying to the same email? For example, someone emails me, I reply, with a question, they reply, and I reply again, like an entire conversation. But the constant adding of Re: in the subject it rather annoying...

Thus far I've replied to 'said' email three times, and the subject looks like this: Re: Re: Re: Have you packed yet?

I had the same issue as well. I am using T-Mobile. I sent an e-mail to the developer. I am waiting on a response.

Program does not appear to support viewing of images pasted into an html email. Client sent me an html email with a screen capture pasted in.

The email text reads fine.

The email shows a gif but no way to open/view it.

Have a couple other similar emails where the image does not display and there is no way to open it as you would if on the regular reader with BES.

Selecting a different email text display font appears to have no impact on my device (8300)

Hi RhOd15,

If you haven't already, please send us an email at support@blackberrysmart.com and we'll be able to step through with you to see if we can get your connection configured correctly.

Regarding exiting back to the message list, there are 3 ways you can do this:
1) Hold down the ESC key for a sec.
2) Press 'x' (shortcut)
3) Select "Exit (x)" from the menu.

And regarding delete, though we would have really like to put in the option to delete email from server, this functionality is again locked away from developers by RIM so it's just not possible Sorry...

Cheers,
eZainny.

You know this is a response from RIM releasing some of their API. Its sad they couldnt come with something like this in the first place

Hi All,

Apologies about the wait with OTA - It's up Now!

Head to the MobiHand site:
http://mobihand.com/product.asp?id=12362

And click the "Install Now" button. Enter an email address which goes to your BlackBerry and then when you receive the email click the first link.

Regards,

Posted by: davistld01

Wow!!!

Thanks so much for the OTA download!!! What a great change. The way email has been presented on my BlackBerry vs. how it was on my old Treo 680 has been the only wavering part to me...and I'll admit that I have thought about going back to the Palm. But not any more...

Thanks again. Doing the trial version now...but there is not doubt that I will purchase later today or tomorrow. Well worth the cost!!

****************************************

Edit:

Oops...since I am using TCP/IP connections with AT&T's BB Unlimited Personal plan, and BIS transport...will I incur extra useage charges using this software to display images? If so...this is not a good thing.

Can't seem to get the connection settings correct.
Is there anyone on Cingular/ATT that has been able to get this working on their phone?

I have a Pearl on ATT and just got it to work using the TCP/IP settings. I'd suggest going to settings > security settings > app permissions and editing the smartview connection permissions. I set connections to "allow", restarted, ran the connection set up and it worked.

i installed it on my 7103e, and cant reply.

i installed the 4.x version OTA just this morning.

when i try to reply in SV i get an error saying i need os 4.2.

I did the same, and application works perfectly for me on my AT&T 8300 so far, using TCP/IP settings.

I am still concerned about the question that has gone unanswered: Are we charged any more useage charges to display images if we are using AT&T service and a BB BIS Personal Unlimited Data plan?

This program is absolutely the bomb...but not worth it if I am going to be charged the unfreakingbelieveably high AT&T per kb data charges.

With an unlimited data plan, what would the extra charges be?

Rumor has it that since images are being pushed through the BIS channel...there would be charges, since BIS is not a html-friendly medium.

Someone on another forum called them sort of "carrying charges".

Hope the rumors are just that...

I did the same and it's just not working... I don't know what it is and am about ready to give up.

It looks good without the images... but it's not worth it to buy for me if I can't the images show up.

Posted by: soxfan2003

Not sure I absolutely love the program. Here are the two things I don't like.
1) I am used to pressing the back key to get back to my inbox. Now I have to press it twice or use the "x" key. Not opposed to this but I am programmed to use the back key
2) If I get an email with a phone number (I do occasionally) the RIM email program knows its a phone number and I can call that number directly from the email, this program I can't do that
I will keep playing with it but not sure I will stay or not. Other than those 2 things I really do like it

Posted by: dicin

Your # 2 item is a must. I am sure it will be fixed.

I'm the same way and its one of the reasons that I will not be buying the program. Like you said its hard to change old habits

Hope the rumors are just that...

You'll find out soon enough. lol

I'm sure you'll be fine.

I think this is a concern, and it should be addressed. Problem is, I doubt any of us will really know till we get our mobile bill...

What concerns me the most, is that this HASN'T BEEN ADDRESSED.

eZainny...perhaps AT&T and T-Mobile BlackBerry users would feel more confident about using your product...at least past the trial period, if you would contact these two providers and settle the issue once and for all, so that we might make a quality decision.

Thanks!

Hi everyone,

It seems there is a bit of discussion about the data charges so here is my reply:

What actually happens to every email that comes to your BlackBerry is it first passes through RIMs servers which transform HTML emails. They strip out necessary detail to reconstruct the true email as it once appeared and leave in links to images. So the actual images themselves are not in the email - they reside on the internet.

What my program (and empower do too) do is retrieve those images from the internet to display them to you. In order to retrieve those images, the outbound connection must pass through an approved gateway setup by your network provider (Verizon, AT&T, etc.). Those images are obviously of a certain size (usually very small as the actual RIM server transforms any images into something suitable for display on the BB) and so there is data usage that happens here.

Most companies will charge for data usage. But how exactly they charge varies and it also depends on your plan. Many companies even place restrictions on the amount of email "data" you can download in a month (some will start charging above 5MB for example).

So you can actually see that if you get charged and how much can really depend on both who your provider is and what plan you are on.

Admittedly, yes, there is probably a very good chance (since most providers are money grubbers ) that you will can get charged extra for image downloads. Unfortunately, if you want to see images in your email there is no way around this - not for anybody.

Personally, I disable images in my emails. But this isn't out of fear of the cost but rather it's not very often I want to see them anyway. Most emails with images are spam - and even if images do display, it somehow doesn't look right because that extra bit of information needed to place the image correctly has been removed by RIM as part of their email stripping process.

My program does something pretty cool in that it caches images you have already downloaded. Often emails contain duplicates - images that have already appeared in the email. My program retrieves them just once and holds onto them (compressed too so they don't take up much space) and uses them later rather than trying to download them again.

Hope the above helps, if not, just let me know and I can contact some people at some of the big providers to outline how they charge a bit more. I have some friends at Verizon who could give me some more information if you like.

Thanks,
eZainny.

Thanks, eZainny. But, without your expertise and explaining everything...I doubt that some like me would ever be able to explain to the average Cingular/AT&T or T-Mobile (where most BB 8300 and 8800 users at least call "home") CSR what we are asking about...

I guess to a corporate-subsidized BES BlackBerry user...the extra charges would be no big deal, since Mother Company is paying the bill. But to the rest of us that are mostly BIS users...and have nobody else footing the bills, or having to shell out for additional charges...the possiblity of paying the un-freaking-believeably high per-kb charges from the providers is a serious issue, especially on top of the already high data plan charges they get by with.

I think a lot more folks would jump on your product, if they could be sure that it wouldn't cost them big bucks above and beyond the $25.00 they are already paying for your software. If you could get some real answers from the major players in the BlackBerry world (AT&T. T-Mo, and Verizon) to clarify things...I believe that you would see a steep rise in sales of your already popular product.

I think I should come back and post again after I have done some investigation on my own...since my above post came off kind of combative and negative. To eZainny...my apologies. I just wanted to satisfy my question of being billed for additional data charges if I kept my settings to allow image viewing with my current BIS BB Personal Unlimited plan.

After talking with three different AT&T CSR's on three different occasions, and after having all three give me the same answer...I am convinced that with AT&T at least, unlimited means just that...unlimited. There is no cap on monthly data usage like some other providers have...even though their plans say they are "unlimited" as well. So...I am totally stoked and ready for the updated, and improved version that will be coming out soon...I hope.

There is no doubt that I will gladly invest my $25 at that time.

Hey, eZainny...whats the ETA on the new version you have hinted at?

Hi davistld01,

Sorry for not replying earlier! We've been so busy here working on the next release! It looks like it will be about a week away now - The problem is we have a list a mile long of cool new interesting features to put in and will probably have to start whittling that down to something a bit smaller to make that date!

Anyway, this release will include some very cool things you haven't seen anywhere else...Stay tuned

Cheers,
eZainny.

It ought to be a no-cost upgrade to those who already purchased the program.

If so, I'll get one for my Moto Q.

Hi All!

We just released v2.0 this evening! It includes a lot of very cool things. Have a read over on:

Hi All,

Just thought I'd let you know CrackBerry.com has also posted up a review
Take a look at http://crackberry.com/

Cheers,
eZainny.

Hi All,

Just letting you know that v2.1 is up now
Nothing major in this release, just a couple of updates:

- Plain white is now available from the color pickers (should be the first option at the top of the list)

- File and View Folder options available for BES users

- Next unread message shortcut for suretype devices (*)

- Shortcut key to toggle summary/full details

- Integration with BeamBerry and RepliGo attachment viewers.

If you currently have v2.0, just go to the "BBSmart Options" screen and click the trackwheel to bring up the menu. Select "Check for Updates" and when prompted, install the new version. All your existing settings will be preserved including trial/full version status (I think the prompt says otherwise, but it's wrong)

More and more updates in the works - in some upcoming major releases you'll see some really interesting features make it in...Never far away

Cheers,
eZainny.

I have T-Mobile and downloaded your app and paid for it. However I've been unable to get my T-Mobile TCP settings to work?? Any suggestions on how to get the pictures to show with T-Mobile?

Posted by: eZainny

Hi jwprice,

To get your connection settings working, could you please try the following:

>From the BlackBerry Home Screen:

Go to Options-TCP or Tools-TCP or Options-Advanced-TCP and enter the following details:

APN: wap.voicestream.com
Username: Your T-Mobile username
Password: Your T-Mobile password

If you are not sure what your T-Mobile username and password are first try entering nothing for these. Otherwise, you may have to contact them.

Save these changes and go to the Connection Options screen in BlackBerrySmart Email Viewer. Select the TCP/IP checkbox and test your connection. I've heard some people report that it can take a couple of test connection tries if your connection quality isn't fantastic (but after that it works with no hassle).

Let me know how the above goes. If it works, don't forget to re-enable images from the options screen.

I've included a set of "test" images below which should display once you get your connection settings up and running. Copy these into an email and send it to your BlackBerry and see if they display.

Hi All,

Well a little bit later than promised, but v2.2 is finally out now

Again, not a terribly big release in terms of features - we're saving all the big ones up for v3.0! Well, actually, truth be told, they are just a little bit too unstable to push out with this release now anyway

Alright, new features/fixes in this release include:

* Customizable email header colors per email account. We got this request a while ago from a user and I thought it sounded like a great idea but just never found the time to put it in. The purpose of this is so that you can assign a unique header color for every email account that you receive mail on for your BlackBerry. That way, people with many email accounts (I have 5!) can quickly see which account mail was received on without hunting for "Received Using" field. Pretty cool I think

* SmartNotes. SmartNotes are a new way of "tagging" emails with information. Sort of like the "Add as Task" feature I guess but with tighter integration with the original email. Anyway, best to check it out rather than take my word for it Use it for whatever you like

A couple of other small miscellaneous fixes/changes also.

As always, this is now available as a free upgrade (as all our upgrades will be *forever*). If you currently have v2.0 or higher installed, just head to the BBSmart Options screen and select "Check for Updates" from the menu.

As with the previous release, there might be some issue with caching on our webserver again which hosts the install files so it might take a little bit of time to pick it up (so for the next couple of hours it may report itself still as v2.1 even though v2.2 is up). Your patience is appreciated

Cheers,
eZainny.

Hi All,

If you are interested in how BBSmart came about and the original inspiration behind the email viewer, you may want to take a look at the interview that CrackBerry recently did:

http://crackberry.com/interview-bbsmarts-neil-sainsbury

We talk about things that have passed, how things are now and where we are going in the future.

Cheers,
eZainny.
