Debranding 8525

Anyone know if there is a way to debrand an AT&T 8525? If so, how? I hear that AT&T/Cingular puts a lot of extraneous crap on the phone that slows it down. Is that true? If it isn't then it really doesn't matter to me (AT&T branding is very innocuous--unlike Cingular--as long as the apps aren't causing a slowdown).
