If someone has the Cingular 8525 and there is one plan (Smart max) is $29.99 and one (PDA max) is $44.99 then is it possible to use the Cingular smart max plan?

you need to look at old threads in here (there are about a hundred) concerning data plans.

Well, "ON" the record, the 8525 is classified as a PDA, and as such, "requires" a PDA plan. "OFF" the record, you can put on whichever damn data package you want, and the phone will work fine.

Except for Media bundles - that will only provide access to media net...as far as I know...

awesome! I was thinking about paying for the smart max BEFORE getting the phone and that way not having to let them know what phone i will be using it for. thanks!

I dont follow, can you explain?

Addint a Media bundle (media basic, Media Max ect..) will only provide a data phone with access to Media net ..Minus the ability to use internet explorer for sites besides the main media net home.

ok, im still not following you. The Cingular 8525 is a PDA. Are you saying that if I get the smartmax data plan that it wont give me internet access?

Posted by: 0v3rc10ck3d

Im talking about Media basic. If you have the 8525, and have nothing for features besides the Media Basic bundle (im not saying anything about the smartmax data plan) you will not get access to anything but media net. I was saying this in response to someone who said any feature with internet will work.

ah, ok. thanks. but wouldnt the media basic package be included in a smartmax data plan or ANY data plan?

yes in a way. But 'media basic bundle' by itself is for non-data phones. but you will get any and all features of that with any data plan, yes

That is an urban myth propagated by Cingular to keep people from using the lower priced plans with a PDA. I know several people that have MB or MW plans with a PDA and have full access to the internet, not just MEdiaNet. Not that I would ever sell the wrong plan...but I know it works.

Ah..Didint know that. I knew that the PDACNTUNL would provide with unlimited everything INCLUDING laptop teathering, but again, cigular wants them to pay for the teathering service when its not nessesary.

I had a guy come in just yesterday actually, talking about how he wants to teather his phone. After we got through POS and were adding the features he said he just wanted the PDACNTUNL...I said "I thought you wanted to teather as well", he replied "I never said anything about teathering" and he winked. This goes to show me that not all customers are misinformed and alot are very smart and do their research. He turned out to be a cool guy and saw him again this morning.

Just FYI...

any pda/smartphone plan will work with the 8525 BUT...

if you have a SMARTPHONE connect and use more than 20mb of data in a month you will be charged for that accordingly.

at&t isnt dumb when it comes to people tethering/pda browsing on smartphone plans

all in all, under 20mb a month and your safe.

If the smartphone plan is unlimited, then you will not be charged...please do not post information as fact if you do not know that it is and can back it up.

Did anyone else see that the new PDA and Media Max plans will check the IMEI before populating the available features? It sounds to me like it will be much harder to not sign up for the correct data plan.
