WM6 - Send SMS via GPRS?

(Click here to view the original thread with full colors/images)

I just got my HTC S710 running WM6 Standard today. Under Connection options for SMS Service, I see an option to use GPRS instead of GSM for text messages. If I use that does this mean my outgoing texts wont be charged to my bucket?

I know on my Nokia 7610 it broke when I set it to GPRS.. I don't think Cingular supports SMS over GPRS.

Why would they want you to JUST have a data plan when they can charge you another $20 for unlimited messaging.

This is why cingular p*sses me off. Lets disable a feature on a phone, just so they're forced to use our services.

AFAIK, no carriers in US support using data connection to send SMS. It's understandable because until they can figure out how to count those SMS messages over GRPS or other type of data connection so that they can charge you per message, they are not going to give it to you. Without carrier support, such function will not work.

Business is business.. they'll all keep doing it until one company breaks down and becomes nice to the customers, then they'll all be forced to follow suit. Problem is, I don't see any of them getting out of the pay-per-message model any time soon...

wait nvm, Sprint PCS Vision (if they still call it that) was unlimited everything you could imagine when I had it in 2004. Granted, it wasn't real SMS.. it was web messaging, all through a web interface, as was the sprintpcs e-mail and the MMS.

I have a cricket plan that costs me $56 with tax a month, my daughters plan is $35 with tax and both of us can send sms and mms messages without being charged for them unlimited included in the plan. Cricket service is not best, I miss calls and have dropped calls but I don't get f... on the bill either, I've been with for about 5 years I think now.

Regarding other carriers following suit, they have, in Phoenix where I live, near all of the carriers are now offering some sort of unlimited plan and they constantly jab at each other over who really has the best plan but they ignore cricket in their ads, Cricket on the other hand lists their plans in plain English and shows a comparison of all together against Cricket and it's pretty funny..

I would probably switch to say Tmobile if they offered a real unlimited because I always liked their service but don't think that will happen anytime soon because like the rest of you said, they are out for a buck deserved or not.

If you have an accoutn with VoipRaider or VoipBuster, someone over at xda wrote an application that allows you to send SMSs from one of those accounts. If you need a link to it, just send me a PM and I can find it for you.
