ok guys, ive looked for orange service and have not been able to find any info on it. not here or on the internet. my girlfriend is going to europe in a week and she will be in spain and london for about 3 weeks. can she just go there and try to locate one of these places and just pop in the sim card and be ready to go or does the phone ave to be unlocked? what are poeples recommendations for the cheapest and most reliable way!!!?? please help me out here guys! thanks so much in advance.

The phone needs to be unlocked before a non-Cingular SIM card will work. I suggest you have her call customer service now and start the process as it might take a day or three. If she's going to be there for a long time and will be making a lot of local calls, a prepaid SIM from a local carrier might be cheaper.

if shes a cingular/att customer in good standings she can ask for a unlock code from cingular. or you can google a site that unlocks for a fee, if your crafty you can attempt it by yourself

any suggestions on links to unlock yourself or websites where i can get this info? does anyone know whee i can get rates fr calls if she uses a prepaid card?

why not just call cingular? are you not a cingular customer/is she?
they provide you with a code (usually within 24 hours if you tell them you're heading overseas) that unlocks it.

as far as service in england- do not get a virgin sim card. use vodafone or orange. you can pick up a sim for a few pounds and load up a few pounds while your'e over there- there is always a bunch of fone shops in the towns.

not sure what prices are for those two co's, but virgin charged 4pence per text, and 10pence for the first 5 mins per day, then 4cents per minute thereafter for calls. and remember- all calls incoming are free to that sim card.
