The k850 is going to be tri-band HSDPA and quad band edge/gsm.
Obviously you will have to by these unlocked, but I think it is a good sign that SE, Nokia, Motorola look to be creating unbranded, unlocked phones for the US.

if i'm reading this right, i'm let down:

The Sony Ericsson W910 WalkmanŽ phone will be available in either Hearty Red or Noble Black from Q4 2007. It will ship in the following network versions:
W908c: GSM/GPRS/EDGE 850/900/1800/1900
W910i: UMTS/HSDPA 2100-GSM/GPRS/EDGE 850/900/1800/1900

so umts/hsdpa 2100 means europe is getting it in 3g, while we're stuck with edge?

that suxors. it was the only phone they released today i had some interest in.

I'm waiting for the Z750.

the "c" indicates its for china, not north america. "i" is international. "a" is for americas.

I love SE phones! Glad to see some high speed ones coming out.

The K850i is the only new model that currently supports N.A. 3G:

It remains to be seen if they will release N.A. 3G versions of the W910 and W960.

i know that these were just announced, and possibly may take a while to be released, and im looking to get another s.e. phone to replace my s710a.should i wait and see how long it takes or should i just get a w810i for now.time is of the essence in making my choice.

Sadly for you, the iPhone is at&t's main and narrow focus right now. About the only device that might get some attention from them in the coming months is the RAZR 2. You likely won't see a new SE phone (at least not a high-end one) until 2008 or, at the earliest, late 2007.

It's never coming to AT&T. Unlocked it will be availible in October.

is there any possibility of sony ericsson phone with 2mp or higher cam in near future? i heard w810 was close to eol.

Posted by: bodeh6

Unlocked there are plenty. Next phone for Cingular though will probably be the 2MP 3G Z750i if they pick it up this fall.

SE release time for the Z750 Sept. But will AT&T pick up this phone?

There is an 800 series phone coming with 5 MP.

From the above article, it states the k850 will be a 5 megapixal. If you are looking for more SE's in the future, I don't think branded is the way to go. I am just happy seeing Nokia and SE start to push out some, not all, tri-band hsdpa phones.

What does EOL stand for? That's one acronym that's always puzzled me

End Of Life

Posted by: thadoggfather

oh!!!! I'm surprised I couldn't figure that one out. In any case, why is W810i approaching its EOL on Cingular? I keep hearing this but it simply has not happened yet

Maybe because it has been out for a long time. Everyone wants the latest and greatest.

It'll be a damn long time if you wait for at&t to get it, say, forever. I'll be getting it unlocked once it comes out because the overwhelming odds say at&t is too stupid to pick up a phone perfect for it's network (i.e. the K790a, which I had to get unlocked and love).

Do unlocked versions of phones have more features, like customizing, etc. And are they fully compatible with ATT, i ask because i heard from a couple of people that some features dont work on unlocked versions.
I know this is unrelated but i want to get the Z750 but dont feel like waiting until 6months after the fact that its out to get it.

Also does anyone know what price range its going to be when its released, im guessing around $300.

Good call on the fact that the big three are bringing their phones directly to the US consumer. And great news on the SE front. The Sony Style stores have been selling the SE phones for a few months now. I noticed yesterday -- while witnessing the iphone mania -- that the Sony Style store just installed a display near the front of the store for phones. It was equiped to handle at least 10-12 phones. It didn't say which models, but it had small signs that mentioned bluetooth, camera, etc. A rep said they didn't know much about it.

Unlocked phones don't have carrier branding on them. Some more options might be available as the carrier did not lock them out like manual network selection. MMS is probably the biggest complaint about unlocked phones but with manufacturers like Nokia and Sony Ericsson, most new phones will automatically download MMS/WAP settings once you put the SIM in. Z750i is scheduled for Q3 meaning July, Aug, Sept, and will be fully compatible with the AT&T GSM and 3G networks. I would peg initial cost somewhere around the $400-$450 mark. But after a month or so of release it should level off some to $375-$400.
