So I tried looking on their website but anytime you look up cancellation or early termination on their website, AT&T says to call them. I just want to know how much money I will have to pay AT&T if i do the following:

Buy 8GB iphone: $599
Cancel the next day: no early term fee as it is within 30 days.

So $599 plus any shipping/prorated monthly fees? (and any deposits required)

or do I have to give back the phone?

Thanks.

You have to give back the phone. If you terminate the new line of service you create, you must give back the equipment and they will refund you the price and prorate any fees.

If you choose not the return it, I assume you'd be charged the still unknown non-commitment price.

Just out of curiousity. If this did work, which it won't, what are you going to do with a phone that is locked to at&t and from all reports, will not be able to be unlocked?

LOL! Good question!

The unlockability is still unknown however this clearly depends where YOU get YOUR reports from.

He will be the proud owner of the most expensive iPod. If it does not work out for him, he can always sell it to me at a discounted price.

Great question....no valid answer. Who knows if and when the iPhone will be able to be unlocked. It could very well be like the T-Mobile Sidekick.

Overall, a good idea before any thought was put into it. The reality of it is if you do this, you will more than likely end up with a very expensive iPod.

or he can simply keep it and sign up with At&T again WITHOUT the $40 (or whatever the amount is) medianet plan.....(I know he will have to sign up under someone else's name, but still save 40 or so bucks per month....

I couldnt care less about the ipod.. its mostly a phone. In this case a phone with some serious R&D invested. It's understandably going to be expensive... but I don't plan to keep it

To say its just an expensive ipod is moot; there is much more to it than just music.

Hmm, just noticed your location. British Columbia? I think you have to have to be a US resident with a US address to get AT&T service. I agree with you, it is mostly a phone, more than likely a phone that will not be unlocked, and more than likely, for you, if you can get one, an expensive iPod.

I am a US resident with a US address. Unlock is available. Can't someone just answer the original question?

I think he's going to sell it on eBay. Think about it, he's going to be making money anyways, just like when the xbox360 came out and the PS3. People bought it on eBay after it sold out for 10 times the amount. He'll be putting money up front, but he'll be making tons more.

Why would anyone buy an iphone from ebay when you can get it at the store?

Because they will be out of stock, you say, nope, if the store is out of stock they can directly fulfill your order and have it shipped to your home.
