HTC Tornade / Imate SP5 charging issue

Hey all,

I have an imate SP5 that I've been using (yeah yeah, I know time to upgrade). Bought it out of Dubai. Anyways, dropped it yesterday, phone turned off (it was dangling from the car charger), wouldn't turn back on. Tried the original power charger, sync cable, everything - no dice on any response. So I took it apart completely to look for obvious stuff (I figure it's out of warranty as it is) - and there's NOTHING obvious. The only tell-tale signs are the batter cover was a bit popped when I dropped it, and the little nipple thing has basically lost resistance and won't "click" in.

Anyways, I cleaned it all out, put it back together - and now the only response I get is when I plug in the wall charger, the power light blinks on red for a fraction of a second then turns off. Any thoughts on what this means? My real goal with the phone is to get it on long enough to pull the texts and other data on the actual phone. Luckily contacts and miniSD card are backed up / unaffected.
