You will need to get the part by pulling it froma working handset. I cannot remember off the top of my head if the component is soldered to the board or modular in design.

this happens to all of these eventually, they get looser & looser until they are so loose that they make contact with no effort
this can be fixed in just a few minutes, I just did mine & it's BETTER than when new, you need a tiny piece of semi dense foam rubber, take the face off the phone & remove the board, pop the joystick button straight up, it just snaps off, then you cut a tiny square from the foam rubber the size of the inside square hole on the joystick button, make a hole in the center for the switch protrusion to poke through, slide this over the protrusion of the switch & then snap the button joystick back on.
this foam rubber will now act as the spring for centering the button, it now takes a bit more effort for me to activate this control, which is a good thing, works perfect

where would i find a piece of semi foam rubber?

hardware store, a placemat, some sort of pad, arts & crafts store, sneaker insole? I used some stick on rubber feet from a cd rom drive think it was?

So I did that, but now my phone won't power on and when i plug it in its just got a red light where the charge light is.
Any ideas or suggestions?

that don't sound good, are you sure you reseated the ribbon cable connector correctly? the little brown retainer hinges up to release the tiny ribbon cable to the switch board, you have to be careful not to pull on the ribbon cables or break the release clips, did you just open the face or did you dissasemble the phone?
you should only need to take the face off: slide it open, remove the 2 tiny torx screws behind the face & then gently pop the face off, first the top side where the screws were, then the other side will release. when you slide the phone to half open & half closed the ribbon that connects the face should allow enough slack to turn the face sideways & take the 2 tiny phillips screws out the hold the button board on, the little brown retainer for the ribbon that connects the button board is a hinged up design, just lift up the edge that faces the ribbon cable to unlock it & allow it to slide out, install is reverse, hinge the brown lock open, slide the ribbon cable into the reciever & then hinge down the brown lock. this connection is covered with a small piece of tape that you will need to either remove or peal back at least.
I should put a disclaimer here, if your not comfortable with tiny ribbon cables & stuff then this may not be for you, once you open any phone or laptop there is a good chance of screwing something up if your not careful, on the other hand this isn't very difficult either, it's just very fragile
hope this helps

Hi all,
Anyone know how I can disable the joystick. I HATE it. I like to disable it electronically or take it apart. Thanks.

Thanks for posting this. I was at my wit's end with my broken 6700!
I was just about to buy a new on because of the joystick. Now, thanks to you, I can wait for Verizon to release the 6800!!!!!!!!
Your instructions worked perfectly excepting that mine had 2 screws that were not exposed by sliding the phone open. I forced it apart just enough to get them out and everything else was just as described.
Cheers
