can we get some post-free 8525 from premier thoughts?

I know a lot of people jumped on the free-8525 or 99$ 8525 deal. Im also seeing a LOT of "my phone is dead" or "my battery is dead" etc type messages. So for all those who just got your phone, how is your phone? Im starting to think they dumped these for a reason and ATT saw some internal Cingular docs and wanted to dump these phones for a reason? Or maybe im paranoid.

Got mine Friday. I upgraded it to latest AT&T official ROM and then layered WM6 on it. Works like a champ so far. Everything about it is quite good. I just have to get used to the heft of it, coming from a BJ. The unit is solid, looks brand new (almost too new - its a slippery sucker), no loos joints or anything. I suppose that will change as it gets used. But out of the box - it was great. I also did the A2DP tweaks on the WM6 ROM and damn, I've never heard A2DP sound so good in any previous implementation. ANd it doesn't make it slow to a crawl like using it on the BJ did...

Oh, and I think the sale is to clear inventory of:
- Cingular branded 8525s, since they are spending millions to re-brand themselves after they spent millions already to make CIngular a name and
- 8525s in general, as the Kaiser will be coming in the next few months - they already are delaying the Kaiser to allow them time to clear out inventory, and
- probably focusing on the iPhone for a while.

I already had one that I bought right after they first came out. I gave that one to my husband.

I ordered a new one from Premier. I love it, works great. It's AT&T branded, new ROM. I did the xda-developers fix for voice command through the headset and the fix to take off that awful noise from start-up. Works AWESOME!

Voice Command, music in stereo through bluetooth, love it. I have the Jabra 8010. I usually don't use the stereo headset, but I do like the sound from the headset, along with VoiceCommand without having to touch the phone.

XDA-Developers forum is awesome if you have any extras you're looking for.

I have no desire for WM6. Works great, Slings great.

I had mine for 2 days and offed it for the N75. I just couldn't get past the extremely low ear piece volume. I did the hack mentioned on XDA to remove the startup animation and it made a small if any differece. Plus not to mention the camera was crap and the signal wasn't as impressive as I have read in the reviews. I upgraded the the 1.43 rom and 1.41 roms and saw no differences either. It was a good phone overall... but I would wait for something new to come out out if I was going back to a PDA again.

AT&T lowered the prices on a few phones. The Treo 750 was lowered and the Blackjack has already been having deals. Maybe they are trying to get inventory down before the iPhone comes in not knowing what affect it may have on the other models (no I'm not interested in the iphone). It's just a thought though.

Got mine about a week ago (ordered on the 10th).

Impressed with the size. Not impressed with the loose keyboard, just too easy to dislodge. Keyboard itself is not bad but not any better than the BB 8700 I currently have on T-Mo. No other physical problems with the phone.

I actually am very impressed with the 8525 as a whole. Works exactly as advertised and then some: only problem is I can't get used to the touchscreen and non one-handed operation. Knew it might be a problem coming in but that's what trial periods are for. I WILL say the call quality, at least when I'm in a 3G area, is miles better than my 8700. While the e-mail isn't as good as the BB, once I figured out IMAP, mail2web, etc. it's not too bad. Finally, I do banking with Citibank and their Citimobile doesn't support the 8525 (even though their site says they do a tech told me "they're in the process of removing the phone").

Right now I don't know whether I'll keep the 8525 or not. Like everything in life, there's a tradeoff. I also don't like the 2-year contract. I can sign up with VZW through my company and only need to commit to a one-year deal. OTOH, I could pay the $175 ATT ETF and, with the free 8525, still come out ahead.

HTH.

is it true that the 8525 is only free on premier if you have a data plan that costs OVER $30.00? What happens if you change data plans to something under 30? Do you get charged for the full price of the phone?

I received my 8525 on Friday of last week. Since then, I've made some changes ...

I installed WM6 that was cooked by LVSW and then by vp3G. Made the changes to use my blue ATT sim card, installed PPTFix.cab to change the PTT button to start the phone app, and was able to do a 1 handed phone call.

I'm changing from a Cingular 2125 to the 8525 and I'm liking it. All of the stuff that I listed above can be found on xda-developers.com.

I got mine a week ago. I immediately upgraded the ROM to the latest AT&T ROM, and today I upgraded to WM6 - so far, I think I got my $99 worth. The camera works better under WM6, I've got a big clock on the today's screen, and a few of the free apps I downloaded would crash on WM5 work fine on WM6. Even though mine said refurbished, I can't find any scratches, or marks, or any sign the phone had been used previously, the only clue is that the getting started guide has a phone number written on one of the pages. A week later, I picked up a N75 for $199, Now I'm all set until the next great phone comes out - and no, I'm not interested in the Iphone, gotta have more than a pretty face to get me interested
