blackjack spell check/other rants

so, i've had the blackjack for over a month now...i've realized that yahoo.com pushed via seven is pretty damn good. i've also realized that watching slingbox is good on it (esp. when in a 3G area). problem is, whenever i write emails, the key strokes are either too quick, or i suck at typing, so a lot of stuff get's mistyped.

is there a program that includes spellcheck for all my outgoing emails?

in addition, i can't stand the battery life.

the phone was unplugged around 9AM- no internet usage, barely any calls- just emails during the day (probably around 40-60)- by the time 8PM rolled around, i get the battery low/replace warning.

wtf??

watching slingbox is even worse- it'll die after about 1hour and 15mins of 3g speed....

Are you using the extended battery? I wouldn't be able to use this phone if I had to use the standard battery.

still waiting for it to be sent to me via the rebate.
on a related note- i actually like the form factor- not sure i'd like it so much wtih the ext. battery.

how much more capacity is it with the ext. battery?

Based on my current usage, I can get maybe a day with the standard battery and several days with the extended. I also like the form factor better with the extended battery.

The extended battery form factor is better than I expected. I don't see how you guys are burning through standard batteries in 12 hours though. With moderate usage (talk, data, and txt, IM client, BT always on, headset most of talk), I have no trouble going 24 hours with standard and a couple of days on extended. This is in EDGE or 3G areas (have lived in both). Not much changed with the WM6 update either (for me)

My refurb standard battery won't make it through the day with me as well. This is with moderate use, maybe an hour or two (or three) of talk and about an hour total of web surfing/emailing with a mix of 3G (when available) and EDGE. Mine won't qualify for the extended battery as well. The previous owner must have already used the offer.

On another rant, has anyone found a decent case for the BJ? Something with a few small MicroSD slots would be cool so I can carry extra data (music, pics, etc.). I've seen some on eBay that have this but they look huge and include CC pockets as well. I just want some extra MicroSD storage in a nice compact, comfy case. My wallet is fine to carry CCs, my licenses, etc..

*shrug* wish i had an idea.
probably because i use seven push mail- which means' it's constantly working- drains the battery down a lot. add in me on 3G with slingplayer streaming video= forget it.

the test on monday was- unplug at 9AM, get emails pushed all day with me replying to all of them- few text msg's and maybe a 5 minute call= by 9pm the warning came on. probably had more time but decided to just switch out the battery.

I still have full bars by the end of the day (phone off charge for around 10 hours using a few minutes of both talk and net (3g) AND with push email coming in (and yes reading and replying as well) with the std battery. If I use net more it may go down 1 bar. A few things I noticed that have a HUGE impact on battery savings:

- Using the brightest screen setting KILLS the battery quick, especially while surfing the net on 3g. I use the second brightest setting.
- Keypad locking the phone is also a big battery saver. Whenver you get a call or just check the screen for the time/messages/etc the screen stays on a dim setting unless you totally unlock it. Also no accidental key presses to light it up.

I know these may not seem like huge helpful hints but that is what seemed to do the trick for me.

-the screen is set at 3...believe the highest level is 5?
-keypad lock is engaged

the phone was unplugged at 8AM. it's not 3pm, and i'm at 50% power!
i haven't made any calls- emailed only a handful, may have used about 10mins of internet edge/3g switching btn the two....granted i'm in a building and the signal is somewhat ****** and very variable depending on where on my desk the phone is!

still, 50% power?!?! wtf?!

I was barely making it through the day with the standard battery too. I got the extended battery, and it makes a world of difference. I still have most of my battery left at the end of the day now.

Turn off 'accept all incoming beams' for IR as well... that's a big battery drainer.
