HTC S710 Question

Hi... I just got an S710 and am trying to customize the home page. I'd like to turn the text on the home page black so it can be read with the new wallpaper I am using. Is there an easy way to do this? I have looked around the forums and it seems like most customizations of the home page are done through either registry hacks or some other complex programming? Am I correct?
