WM6 Standard and HTML e-mail. Do you need Exchange Server for it work?

I am on Verizon using a Moto Q which I like very much. It runs WM5.
The only thing I would like better is HTML e-mail, which will be on the upcoming Q9 since it has WM6.
I am however confused as to how HTML e-mail works on WM6. Some reviews have said that most of the benefits will only be available to users of Exchange Server, which I don't have.
I am in a small company which is not networked in any way. I simply sync my Outlook 2007 e-mail, calendar, tasks and contacts to my Moto Q using Verizon's "Wireless Sync" program (on their server).
Question - If I get the new Q9 with WM6 will I be able to use the HTML e-mail feature using "Verizon Wireless Sync" or does it only work with an Exchange Server account? Thank you in advance for any replies.

You should be able to use it using verizon wireless sync. You don't only have to use an exchange server account.

I've found that HTML E-Mail works on WM6 with:
* Exchange 2007
* POP (I'm using Yahoo/SBC(DSL) account)
* Hotmail (through Mobile Live)
But not:
* Exchange 2003

I don't see HTML working in Hotmail via Mobile Live using Mobile 6. Can someone explain that one better?

the Exchange 2003 server has to be updated if they ever come out with the update for it. The reason is because ActiveSync by default strips out HTML code and then sends just the text to the phone. Exchange server uses ActiveSync just the same so it'll need some updating.
