Hey everyone....im having a bit of trouble. I have a K612B Alltell Strobe. I have the data cable and have installed bitpim and kyocera phone tools. Neither one are able to recognize my phone! I am a noob and am having troubles figuring this out. I have tried a few different things based on other threads and nothing seems to be working. Please help me out.

I had trouble with my strobe. Couple of things I did were to try getting easycdma, this found my strobe when bitpim would not. Try tuuning off your phone then turning it back on before starting the programs. You will also need your spc, some stupid security thing Kyocera has, you can get info and links to software to get it on this thread. It worked great for me.

type 111111 click options then service click dial up networking click enable exit goto settings accessories com port speed set the com port speed and make sure your app I.E. BitPim to the same speed.

Thanks maddocks, that is great info, I didn't know I could do that. I will have to try that when I get home from work to see if that helps me link up better with bitpim, I hate easyCDMA, it is too slow.

my phone doesnt have the option for dial up networking....also what are all these passwords and how do i find out what they are? I have Version, Programming, Debug, EVRC Setting, Reset Lock, SMS Cause Code, Position Location, Keystroke Counter, Browser Setup, Headset Switch, Backlight test, and Data Setup. Where do i find dial up networking?

I rechecked to make sure I have kyocera strobe K612B and I do thru USCC "us cellular" I have had about 4 kyoceras all required me to go into the service screen and enable either uart, dial up networking, tethered data devices, something to bring the comm speed setting into the settings menu. Now most of the options you mentioned I have except for browser settings because the browser isnt enabled on mine,,,yet. So I suggest finding a copy kpst or qpst that work with the strobe, I havent got a usb cable yet so Im not sure wich if any of the versions will work.

I am still having no luck connecting my K612B phone with BitPim....any other suggestions? I have tried nearly everything...

There is a modem driver for kyocera phones which just adds extra at commands some for retrieving contacts sending txt msg's etc. You simply copy the .inf file into your c:/windows/inf direcotry (for xp). But I doubt that without the com speed setting in "settings" "accessories" "com speed". I know on my uscc.net "U.S. Cellular" they disble tons of stuff that the programming menu doesnt have any options for (For example the camera in all the kyocera ohones Ive had are capable of fairly hi rez pics but since they want you to use there email pictures service they max it out at 640X480!! to save bandwidth!) The only was I was able to add the higher resolutions was hooking the phone to a computer and run Kyocera's software for programming the phones (note it can do alm ost anything except esn changing) There are even simple registry hacks to enable such features as reprogramming the phone to another provider!. If the strobe works with qpst or kpst you should be able to enable dial-up-networking, higher rez camera pics, brew edge settings etc.
Note if you do copy the .inf file to your hdd and windows doesnt automatically use it for your phone (assuming windows even recognizes the phone when you plug it in) dont worry go into the control panel goto modems then click add now you can force the installation of the kyocera driver from here, but you cannot via device manager or add new hardware wizard.hopes any of this helps.

hey chris,
i have a few questions about the strobe
1. is it hard to dial on the outside keys??
2. are the screens smaller than you expected??
3. is this phone really as big and bulky as every says??
4. is the keyboard layout good for texting ??
5. did u find someway to put music on it, like as a ringtone??
6. how is the camera quality??
7.can you record something and then set it as your ringtone??
8. do u reccommend this phone for a 15 year old girl??
please answer these questions
u are greatly appreciated!
thank you

1.) it depends, if you have nimble fingers, no, if you have fingers like my dad, yes. They are a bit smaller then a clamshell, but not bad.
2.) the outer screen is small, but the inner screen (which is what I make most of my changes and additions to the phone with) is a good size.
3.) it is a little thick, but compare it to a folded LG clamshell, and it is not thicker.
4.) it is not bad it is just a standard qwerty keyboard and I have had no problems with it.
5.)If you use USCC, go to this thread http://www.howardforums.com/showthr...t=file+transfer I explain how to do it, I don't know about other providers.
6.)with USCC the camera is stuck on 640X480, but if you get the kyocera tools program which is bouncing around the web, you can change that, USCC wants you to pic message and they want low res pics so as not to bog down their system.
7.)Yes, you can do it through the voice memo or use the way I mentioned in #5.
8.)That I can't answer, I am hard on phones and have had no problem, my wife hates it, but it is mine and she likes things simple and I always tweak my stuff.

so I got EasyCDMA to recognize my phone..still havnt been able to get BitPim to. I can browse my phone and upload/download stuff to my phone but I dont know how to make a ringer work on it. Anyone know what im doing wrong?

Dumb question: Anyone know why Bitpim would make your computer restart when trying to access the phone?

Sounds like a hardware conflict with your port. Windows has a tendancy to restart instead of saying "hey you have a conflict." Try going into control panel--->system--->hardware--->device manager. Inside there find the "modem" your phone is listed as and change the com port and then try again. Good luck.
