Working for AT&T

Didnt know this Section Existed but Thanks to aaaDock for making me Aware.

I just got a job with the new AT&T as a Part-Time Sales, im a full time college student and ive been wanting the job for some time.

Yesterday was my first day sitting in the back doing hours of training before i have to travel to Boca, Florida for my first Saturday training seminar.

Ive always been pretty knowledgeable about the material and so forth but its a pretty thick manual, it shouldn't be a problem nonetheless.

Just want to know if anyone, whose worked or works for Cingular/AT&T, has any advice going into these trainings and getting started in Sales?

Any tips at all are appreciated

Learn everything you can about PDAs and smartphones, data is key to your paycheck.

learn how to do PDA's. and start kissing *** to the full timers, because they'll be doing all your work for you when your not in the store.

I cant do full time plus college because im full time university trying to major in electrical engineering and my school schedule barely allows for a part-time, class time availability for engineering is horrible... they almost force u to do loans

Any advice about the training? the 1000 page Manual i have before me and filling it out or just doing the Web Courses?

I did full time college and full time work in college. It can be done but be prepared for no life. I won't be able to repeat it when I go to grad school next fall which is a relief.

Know your features like the back of your hand. Know how to position them as a benefit to the customer rather than an add on. If they see the value in what your offering they'll eat it up like candy.

Make sure you have a good relationship with your customers. If they know your name and trust you they will come back asking for you. This will build repeat business for you and word of mouth; which you'll need, trust me.

Learn to sell without brochures! This is probably the most important thing I've learned and it will help you in your presentation, features, and closing the sale. Brochures are sale killer cause you lose control of the customer's attention and perception. They will stop giving you their full attention because now they have all the information they wanted right in front of them. They will become focused on money too as they see the plan price listed right there at the bottom. Features are now add ons and it makes selling them a heck of a lot harder. You'll hear the infamous, "can I ADD that at anytime?" which means "it looks like too much money and I just want an easy way out." Skip the brochure at all costs! Add everything up in your head and give them a total package price. Go over what that includes like, "With the plan we've designed for your needs, you'll have the 1400 rollover minutes, unlimited M2M calling so you can keep in touch with the kids without worring about going over your minutes, your nights and weekends starting at 7pm, and unlimited texting for the entire family." Remember package good, brochures bad.

Good luck!

I drive by that place everyday.. hah..

But to the OP, I work for VZW but I wanted to just reiterate what IseeOrangepeopl said, he's right on the money with everything he wrote.

Yeah that 1000 page manual is a complete waste of time and the only thing I got out of it were the magical 4 R's.
I had the two week FT training course and although the material covered was pointless and boring, I had a blast because my trainer was awesome and kept us alive. I actually miss those 8 hour training classes, lol.

Being that I just started recently, I will tell you that one thing you will have trouble with in the beginning is OPUS. Training doesn't cover **** on the most important tool you will be using while on the floor. However, it shouldn't take you more than a couple days to get the hang of it.

As others have said, know your data and features like the back of your hand. Same with the accessories and bundles. You can do 5-8 new acts on a good day but say the only feature you got out of it was a 4.99 and accessory total came out to 29.99. This will hurt you in the long run and you will hear it from the manager EVERYDAY.

Let me add that selling features is not as easy as they make it out to be. In most cases you will really have to "sell" the customer into actually trying it out. A lot of times they have absolutely no need for it and there is nothing you can do about it.

i wish i could of done the training in Lake Mary, i was sent to Boca (3 hours away) because there werent enough people for a Lake Mary Part-Time 3 consecutive Saturday training. i just got back yesterday from my 1st training which is why i havent been on this thread much the past couples days since i left on thursday to drive home (since my parents stay 30 minutes from Boca) so that i can spend time with the family before traveling to Boca to stay the night in a hotel and ultimately do my training.
Training was fun, my trainers alright, im a team captain (yayyy) lol my team should of been leading in points but at the end of the day when asked, the other teams somehow added points when they werent advised to. This point thing may b an exercise my trainer only does but it doesnt really matter.
Yea i did learn some basic "Cingulars the best" history and facts and how to Greet the customer in 10/10. Lol, enjoyed cus of the friends nontheless
