Would you want PPC2003 on your P800

ever dreamed of that?

At first it was the looks/size/functionality that attracted me to the P800. I've used various OS'...Palm, PPC, etc and for a device that merges pda and phone funcitonalities into one unit...Symbian delivers. Not as clunky and crash prone as a PPC PDA or phone, but more internet, bluetooth, email, browsing friendly than Palm. I still use my Palm to keep track of my checking accounts...but the P800 is amazing. Now if they would only ditch the memory stick...

I wouldn't say we actually want PPC2003 specifically, but rather all the apps that are available for PPCs

Having owned practically one of every version of WinCe since it came out, I've growned dependent of several applications over the years (also a beta tester for several developers, including WebIS of Pocket Informant 3 and 4). If they come out for UIQ, then I wouldn't miss PPC much at all..

Perhaps if we all pitch in and buy Alex Kac a P800, he'd start work on a UIQ version

so zerowind

that is getting very expensive to purchase all these apps again so they run on symbian os?

I do not like the Pocket PC OS. I have to reset the OS multiple times a day. It just isnt as stable as it should be. I believe one of the problems with the T-Mobile Pocket PC phone was its instability.

to be fair here

the symbian os has crash 2 times since i have had the phone too.

tmobile phone edition that phone only has 16mb or rom and 32mb of ram

depending on how much stuff you run yes it can crash or lock on you.

I like Symbian compared to the crash prone WinCE/PocketPc. I would however love to have the app support the PPC has on my P800

I would buy it because it is SE...If I had a choice between PPC or Symbian...Then I'd opt for Symbian...I personally think its a better OS then MS smart phones...

This isn't a very fair poll. PPC is a heck of a lot more bloated than SymbianOS. If you tried to run PPC on hardware similar to the P800, it would barely make it past the boot stage.
Hypothetically speaking though, if the P800 had a faster CPU and at least double the RAM, I'd still rather have SymbianOS.

lets say the P800 had an XScale262 with 48mbrom and 64mb ram
and a 1gb duo pro

would you still want symbian over ppc2003?

Yes.

now does that make sense???

not to me.

that is like saying:

you have a dual xeon 533 fsb 2gb rd ram etc etc etc but you choose to fun it on X OS.......

i guess poll is showing people hate MS

i guess over time symbian will run into the same problems ppc is more people want more of the stuff running on their phones.

You don't have a strong point. In fact, I'm not even sure what your point is.
My reason for selecting SymbianOS over PPC is a technical one. It has nothing to do with who makes the OS or what software is available for it. It has everything to do with the actual design of the operating system itself.
Symbian is an open OS that was designed to run on smartphones. It is lightweight, and offers the best feature integration and built-in connectivity options in the industry.
PPC (WinCE) evolved out of Microsoft's need to compete with the orginial PalmOS devices. It exhibits most of the same problems as Win32 (NT, 2000, XP), and requires massive amounts of RAM and processing power just to remain usable.

i do understand your point very clearly

but i guess the discussion is

will symbian be able to handle more and more requests for more and more applications and running these applications simultaniously....

whats the solution
