Scaning Yahoo. They had story on unlocked cell phones. Markey wants all cell providers to unlock all their phones. So the phone you have now will work on. Who offers you the best plan. You can take your phone with you when porting. New spectrum up for bid. Congress may stop the sale. Until all cell phones are unlocked.Now that would be a sweet deal for us.

Finally we will get the better phones. Not holding my breath on this.

Great idea, provided that carriers are required to activate any compatible phone. This doesn't apply so much to GSM carriers as it does to CDMA carriers.

Ideally, we'd also move toward a single wireless standard within, say, five years. I'd say that WCDMA or its successor, would be the way to go, but I'm sure the CDMA proponents would scream bloody murder.

We're more likely to see certain rural GSM carriers make the leap to UTMS/HSDPA than to converge on single standard in five years.

I talked to ATTWS CSR about this 2+ years ago. That you can buy any cell phone and use it anywhere. Like your home phone. You can buy any phone to work with your landline phone.

Well i Mean as of now you can take in your GSM phone into a shop, kind of like the one i have/work in, and get your GSM phone unlocked, Where also doing CDMA. even tho im pretty new to CDMA the locks are almost the same as the GSM side maybe a bit more hardcore? lol cause all you have to do in most phones CDMA wise is just dump the PRL file of the company and boom you got voice and text but as of now with out a working flash for that model that you bringing over to another company, Data wont work at all. and your right i think the CDMA companys will scream bloody death lol. I know Cricket stoped checking ESN witht that i mean they dont care what phone you put on there network.

Yeah they all should work just towards one Network Stanard. i mean most other places in the world only use GSM then again there other parts that use something way differnt and or have like some kind of like 5G CDMA network lol anyhow thats my rant x.x

What I cannot understand is that people will buy unbranded phone and then customise them to work just like the branded phones.
