Now that I've received the phone, I notice that it is dialing to wap.cingular, and not isp.cingular. When I change the connection settings to My ISP (isp.congular) which should be correct for PDA connect, the 8525 can no longer connect to the internet. I checked my features listed online, and it says I have WRLSS INTRNT XPRS PAY PER USE $0.00 and PDA PERUNL $39.99. Is this correct? The Pay Per Use thing worries me, as I don't want to be slammed for data charges by connecting to the wrong gateway. I also checked my girlfriend's 8525 (she got in on the same deal, about a month ago) and it is also set to connect to wap.cingular. Anyone have any guess what's going on, and if this is a problem? Thanks. |

The old $40 PDA unlimited plan gave you wap.cingular and isp.cingular. The new PDA Personal Max plans give you wap.cingular only (just like Media max and smartphone plans.) I believe (and I haven't proven this theory) is that the new "PDA Enterprise" plans are like the old PDA plans and give you both wap.cingular and isp.cingular. But I'm not sure. Or it could be that ONLY plans that have listed "tethering" have isp.cingular, and that's probably the rule of thumb we should assume by going forward. See the list of plans here: http://www.wireless.att.com/busines...-comp-table.jsp On a PDA, no, you're not supposed to use isp.cingular. That's a misnomer. isp.cingular is really for tethering and laptop cards and it's purpose is to support use of VPN clients on computers. In very rare cases one may need to run VPN on a PDA and thus need to get a PDA plan with isp.cingular for this reason. But that's super rare. So just use the default settings wap.cingular. It has always been this way. This is one reason I laugh when they say "Media Max won't work on a PDA" because in fact the settings on PDAs, Phones, Media Max, and PDA are all identical. They went and changed the plans recently and isp.cingular is not included on the new "PDA Personal Max" plans. The reason for this, I believe, is that the laptop cards, tethering software, etc all use isp.cingular by default. And they assume the average user won't know to change it to wap.cingular to get tethering to work. So they want to discourage tethering on the wrong plan by simply not giving you access to isp.cingular which you shouldn't need normally. Get that taken off your account. I don't know what that is. Is that Pay Per Use on isp.cingular or what? Tell them you don't want any pay per use data options on your account that could get you charged by mistake. |

If the customer wants to continue to tether the cust. must opt for the $69.99 PDA MAX with tethering and 1500 msgs. feature. So far, my plan hasn't been changed and I hope it never does

For data, I have the MediaWorks Bundle $14.99 plan. IF I upgrade from ATT, with a 2 year commitment the price shows as $299.. what data plan does ATT force you to subscribe to since this is a PDA? IF I buy from Ebay, can i continue to use my existing MediaWorks Bundle plan (5mb w/1000 sms)? Last question would be about buying from ATT, considering my other phone is broke would the price be higher to upgrade? you have to turn your old phone in dont you? |
