Upgrading the firmware on the Siemens S46 -- How?

How do you upgrade the firmware on the Siemens S46?

Do you have to send it to Siemens? If so, how long does it generally take?

Siemens website lists free firmware downloads for every model EXCEPT the S46. What's going on?

Thanks.

I am not sure about your area... but where I am service providers will do a f/w upgrade on the fone. If you bought your fone from your service provider check with them and see if they can do it for you

Telephoner, if you live in USA the only carrier of S46 is AT&T Wireless. AWS does not have any in store service centers. The phone has to sent to Siemens for firmware upgrades.

Which firmware do you have and why do you want to upgrade?

Synncere, I guess Fido Canada has in store service, lucky Canadians.
My local AWS store NYC use to have an excellent instore service dept. Great tech guys, very helpfull. AWS closed all the service depts (To the best of my knowledge).

frrussre I am glad Fido has been great for service in regards to f/w upgrades and such. Alot of my friends have gone to flagship stores and had their fones f/w upgraded in 15 min and walked out of the store... It's too bad they don't carry Siemens fones tho. They are testing out one for their line up... but that's another story. Anyways See ya in the forums!

Frank,

I do not have an S46 yet. So far I'm using (and have been pleased with) AT&T's GSM service. However, I may be doing some traveling and I was contemplating switching to the multi-band plan and getting the S46. I'd read reports about problems with earlier firmware and I wanted to know what firmware I should have if I decide to get the phone. Consequently, I wanted to know what options were available for getting an upgrade. From what I've read on these and other forums, the current firmware is version 64.55. From what I've learned, sending it to Siemens is indeed the only way to upgrade S46 firmware.

By the way, are you pleased with your S46?

Thanks.

When browsing through the AT&T forum not too long ago I noticed there are some S46 users in there. I would also talk to them get their take on the fone if you haven't already

S46 since Oct 2002. First firmware virs 21, only problem, phone would power off when searching between GSM & TDMA. I now have vers 62 & have not had any power off probs.
There is a Vers 64, but they seem to have more problems. Though Vers 64 brand new seems okay. Vers 64 refurbished seems to be the problem phones. (Refurbs as in send phone back for warranty replace)

Phone solid built, sound & reception pretty good. I also used it in UK.

Annoying:
Does not have autodate feature.
mic is underneath instead of in front, this seems to cause some noise feedback on windy day.
Cannot easily use non S46 headset.
No color screen.
No USB cable for Pc hookup.
No bluetooth.

For me S46 is only game intown GSM/TDMA (A must). Every phone has it's own problems, this phone is as good as any.
