Treo 680: Full Circle

For right now I have come back full circle to the Treo 680 and I am very impressed with this device the THIRD time around. I came across this thing TWICE and underestimated its potential due to its ancient OS, terrible battery life and low-grade camera and looked to other brands for the perfect smartphone. Through the hard way in buying unlocked Nokia, HTC, Sony Ericsson and Palm products I have learned that there is no perfect smartphone, for every single model has its quirks and compromises have to be made.

Writing and music and Mac syncing have been my priorities for now in a smartphone, so a qwerty with reliable word apps and a good music player are mandatory in a device. DataViz docs-to-go is the BEST word app and so that limits my choice of devices to Palm and Symbian UIQ.3. Since the p990 had recently let me down with a sluggish version of Docs-to-go and interface I have gone back to the Treo. After downloading Pocket Tunes 4 which surpasses the included basic media players of Nokia and SE devices, I am falling in love with the 680 all over again for now. Quick one-hand navigation from having previous Palm PDAs also gives the old OS a certain charm, although I will not deny that it is due for an overhaul. The basic camera is fine even if I may hardly use it for pics or videos.

Even now I am still tempted by the iPhone and Nokia E90, and I find it funny that for the amount of money I spend I still would not get support for the DataViz docs-to-go combined with a touchscreen and a REAL qwerty.

Oh well, for now I have found the best device in the Treo 680 after buying Pocket Tunes 4, a 3.5 mm adapter, a 680 extended life battery and 8GB SDHC card.

im selling my Treo 680 on eBay for the HTC Vox. I have a feeling ill be back with either the next Windows Mobile Palm GSM or the Treo 680 or next version of a GSM Palm OS device.

I wish i had the money to keep my Treo and still get the Vox... then decide. But hey, when my Treo was $399 and I seem them brand new for $280 now, why not take a risk.
