8525 Tethering Question

(Click here to view the original thread with full colors/images)

I am having a bit of trouble tethering my 8525 to my PC and using it as a modem. I have downloaded the latest firmware from the HTC site and I can not get my Windows XP system to detect my 8525 as a modem. I can get it to active sync just fine. I have tried to follow the directions on the ATT/Cingular support site and on the user guide for the 8525 I downloaded from the HTC site and still can not get my XP system to detect my 8525 as a modem. I have tried every thing I can thing of. Out of ideas. I am using the USB cable. Could I please get step my step directions on how to set this up on my 8525 so I can make sure I have done every thing right.

Thank You.

Well if you are trying to use you 8525 for Internet access for your PC here the scoop! If you have loaded the latest HTC rom from their site, you should have a new feature in Programs called Internet Sharing!
To get it to work you first must setup your 8525. Start IS (Internet Sharing app), in the first field, PC Connection, select USB in the pull -down menu. Next in the second field, Network Connection, select which network access service you want to use(MediaNet, My ISP). Now at the bottom use the left soft key to Connect!
Once this done you can connect your tether to your computer let it discover it! Now you are done!! BTW I have always kept the setting for my usb connection on advanced network Funct. in the Setting/USB to PC section.
BTW if you have the itch this can also set the IS Tether through Bluetooth also!!

Good Luck,

Stuart

Stuart's right!

I had tried this numerous times before running across the "Internet Sharing" and couldn't believe it was as easy as then hitting "Connect" on the device. Worked like a champ! It then kicks out of ActiveSync and doesn't really give much notification on the PC that it's connected, but once you've done that fire up an internet browser on the PC and you should be good to go!

By the way, this is assuming you've got the newest ROM with WM6. I'm using the LVSW ROM with WM6 (after HardSPL and upgraded Radio) and it is so smooth. No problems whatsoever!

I hope Stuart's post helps you , though - he's absolutely right!

the internet sharing is the program that Cingular hid on the Blackjack I was also suprised how easy it worked. However I miss the DUM profile as I have a few devices that need it for connections.

short answer: no - Microsoft made a decision to drop DUN support in favor of PAN (Personal Area Network) support (AKA Internet Sharing). Other copanies / manfacturers may opt to provide DUN profile support, but for MS and MS based product it gonna be PAN.

Where I went wrong was I was tring to follow the Cingular/at&t support site and create a dial up connection with the computer dialing *99# and select the HTC USB modem as the device to be used to dial out. Just like I did on my 3125 ( no longer active). This way on the 8525 is much easer. Some thing simple turnes out to be so hard.

I know that this is an old thread....

I just put WM6 on my 8525, does it matter if I connect on MediaNet or MyISPGprs? The only way I could connect is on MediaNet. I'm on a MediaMax 200 plan. If I need to change, how do I do it?

media net is fine no need to change it

I had the Blackjack I know when you used the hidden setting att couldn't find out you were tethered. Doing this on the 8525 is that the same thing?

I have the smartphone unlimited but some times at the airport I like to get on the net during a layover.

TIA!
