Midlet J9 client failing on Blackjack?

I'm having a weird problem with the Midlet/J9 client used for GMail for my Blackjack - whenever I start it, it seems to auto-close about 90% of the time: the rest of the time it starts, but when I try to start GMail, it closes again.

I haven't used the client in a few weeks but everything was working. I uninstalled and reinstalled (both on the device and on the SD card), no luck. I followed the instructions at http://webdesigncity.com/cms/index....id=34&Itemid=63
to do this.

Thoughts/help appreciated...

Are you using the builtin Java Client or the new J9 version?

I installed the J9 client because it was supposedly improved over the default one and allowed Google Maps and Gmail to function properly... but I found that I could no longer install java files by simply launching its JAR file. With the new J9 app, you have to launch the J9 app and locate the JAD installer file (which who uses JAD files anymore?).

This was enough for me to uninstall it and use the existing default application. Plus you don't need it anymore anyway. For Gmail, just setup an account in your Messages. And for Google Maps, download the version specific to WM devices and not the java version.

This will give you better functionality anyway. The new Google Maps intregates into the Windows Mobile Shell, so that you can call contacts and locate contacts (if you put addresses in there). It also works with bluetooth GPS devices (maybe the java version does too).

And adding the Gmail profile into your messages program will allow you to auto get your messages regularly verses having to constantly launch a java app.

GET WITH THE TIMES MAN!!! lol

leave the java launcher for games.

Thanks. It's the IBM J9 I'm talking about.

I was using a mail profile for gmail, but got tired of

--not being able to filter out sent mail
--not seeing a difference on my home screen between Outlook mail (which I do care about during the day) and GMail (not so much)

If there are ways to work around both of those, I'm in.

That's why I wanted to move to the client. I already have the better version of GMaps working.
