Turning off EVDO wireless

(Click here to view the original thread with full colors/images)

I'm going to Europe and plan on using my phone's WIFI connection when I can. I find whenever I connect to the net and there is no WIFI, it automatically dials EVDO, even when the switch on the side is set to WIFI, but I dont' want that to happen when I'm across the pond cause I will be raped on charges. Is there any setting I can turn on so that it will ONLY use WIFI and not connect to EVDO unless a)I specifically tell i too or b)it asks me if i want to connect first?

I just deleted my evdo connection altogether. I was sure to write down the number dialed, username, and password (which should be your device`s serial#) beforehand. if you want to use it again just "start a new connection"

settings>connectios>connections>manage existing connections and just keep pressing next to view your particulars.

to re-establish follow the same path but add a new modem connection

I wouldn't worry, you're going to Europe where there are no CDMA/EVDO carriers so your phone won't pick up a signal anyways

The above poster is correct, your CDMA handset will not work in any European country unless it also supports GSM. You will need to buy/borrow/rent a GSM/UMTS handset if you want to use a mobile in Europe.

The current phone he has is just fine if he just wants to use the wi-fi features.

Well...yeah, but for calling, he's SOL (unless he uses Skype or something)

I've never had a problem with this. I leave the swith to WIFI and if there's no signal... It doesn't connect. I have to manually move the switch to the EVDO setting in order to use the network in such instances.

Am I missing something here? Others have commented on this in the P4000 release threads, but it doesn't seem to be an issue for me.
