Is there life after a blackberry?

Hi guys,

I sold my Blackberry 8700 and got an HP 6955. Was an interesting unit, loved the 3rd party software but hated the batt life, funky charging connector, and found the interface a little clunky as compared with the bb.

I bought an 8800 and it's a pretty good unit. Great phone and email but it's just not as much fun as the WM HP. I tried a friend's Audiovox 6600 (HTC?) and it seemed alright. Fast, good batt life, nice big screen etc.

My questions are this: Is it possible to go back to and be happy with a WM phone after owning a blackberry? If so, which one should I get?

I've seen a few HTC's for sale and it seems as if they've all got a good blackberry in their stable. Maybe that's why they're selling the HTC's? Not at all trying to knock anything, just want help in deciding to stay with my 8800 or try something different that may fit the bill for good phone/email and have wireless/touchscreen for fun...

Short answer NOPE.

Long Answer: Unless you want random reboots, data loss and dead battery.

id say go with something like the Nokia E61i, S60 OS is leaps & bounds better & more stable than WinMo

That's what I'm afraid of. My HP 6955 was pretty well behaved until I got it config'd exactly how I wanted it. Put on SPB Time/Backup, really loaded it up and really SLOWED IT DOWN, almost to the point of being unusable. Not quite, but pretty bad to use. When I figured it was a day to wipe/fresh install

I got frustrated and bought the 8800.

What about the HTC S621?

Has anyone used one for more than a few days?

TyTN is one of the most popular smartphones and is sold thru Cingular as well, so you can get it for cheap.

I have the 8525 and it's works good from the factory, but it's easily configured to work better if you do your research.There's great software out there for it.

I'm not a fan of the SPB stuff. I too found it to slow down everything. Data loss for me was caused by a bad micro card. Battery life is okay, my 8125 did run longer, but it will last a day of hard use. I also have the extended battery for more time surfing and watching movies.

I use it for work, syncs to my computer and work email, and there's a BB hack out there as well. I live and work in Dallas, so I get good coverage of 3G. Download speeds run around 800bps, better or worse depending on the area. Good enough to stream ORB on the run. WIFI is much faster, and picks up decent signals, but not great.

TyTN + BlackMajik WM6 (SDHC support = 4GB Micro's as well as 8gb)

8GB Microsds are out but i cant freaking find them anywhere!

who said iphone? lol $600? the Tytn is FREE from some providers!

I'd definitely check out some of the Symbian QWERTY options like the E61i and E62. They're a nice balance between Windows Mobile functionality/software availability and Blackberry stability and features (they both sport Blackberry Connect, so they can act as Blackberries anyway).

Does the WM system come with the Blackberry Connect software? I'm not too sure offhand. I know Symbians do, and I'm pretty sure Palm-based Treos do (and probably WM-based Treos now at the very least).

Of course, the WM-based stuff can take push e-mail from later versions of Exchange without the BB server software, so that is a potential benefit in certain situations as well.

It's been hard for me.

I started out w/ the 8700, Some one stole it so I bought a pearl. Traded the pearl cause I was bored one day. Went though 5 phones including a BB 8800 only to end up w/ a curve. I'm stuck Crackberry fo lyfe

great comments so far, thanks a lot for all the info, i really appreciate it.

i'm on vacation right now on a small island called boracay (in phils) and before i left for my 20 hour flight i bought another hp 6955. i really wanted another wm, wanted wm6 but really wanted gps built-in so back to hp i went.

I loaded it up as follows:

opera browser
pocket player
tcpmp core player
spb arkaball ii
skyforce reloaded
resco file explorer
iguidance nav soft
spb dvd
spb weather
spb backup (using it all the time, haven't had to restore yet

Sandisk 2gb miniSD
bought 2 extra batts just in case

check this out. with all wireless off i watched 3 full movies on the plane, on one single batt.

the blackberry (still have 8800) may be a better phone/email machine but it cant match the hp for all out fun, period. i love tweaking, fine-tuning, installing and removing interesting software, and playing *any* video format out there with zero probs. emailing my vacation pics is pretty cool too...

so, this time around i left out some of the spb stuff (time/pocketplus) and carefully backed up each time i installed a new prog, and you know what? i think i can actually live with wm5 this time around.

i'm *am* still wondering what an htc mogul ppc-6800 wm6 would have been like though...

At present, i'm back to wm with my hp hw6955 and can say that yes there is indeed life after a blackberry!

yeah it's my fav so far on the ppc. i used to have some wicked games (boyan, schumi karting, rayman ultimate) on my ipaq 2210 but they wont work on my qvga square screen. it seems 320x240 is way more popular esp for older games.
