Terminal Services

Has there been any word on the availability of terminal services? That is, the ability to get a Remote Desktop session with a Windows box?

TIA,

Frank

I doubt that it will be supported at release. We will have to wait for 3rd party apps. Hopefully VNC support will also follow.

All in good time, when I first got my Motorola Q, it was 3+ months before a VNC client would run properly on it.

i would love to see ARD on my iphone.

You will be able to use VNC without a client if apple implements a real java client on the phone (VNC server runs a custom web server, but it is java based) I foresee a java client being released by apple if enough people complain before they allow VNC third party applications...

HAHAHAHA...No you won't.

A rule of thumb: if you can't run it in a web browser, you can't run it on iPhone...yet.

what do you mean it's VNC???

VNC has always been freeware/open source....cept for the enterprise edition....

VNC is sweet....but can it push it's client? nope

I don't know about ARD...but RDP is imbedded/pre-installed, so all you have to do is let it through your firewall....or in better words...enable it...lol

there are other windows apps that can push clients....and on a local 100mb+ LAN...is faster than even RDP...

I can go on all day about remotes....well...at least for Windows....

ARD is awesome. I can montiro multiple computers with it, install packages, run unix commands, gather info, lock down, interact, control, screen cast, alll from my laptop remotley. Its a great way to manage multiple macs and once you use it you will probably find a reason to use it every day. It makes life as a Mac Sys Admin more bearably.

a MAC SysAdmin?

does that happen often?

not to make fun...but maybe now that Mac is Intel...and Vista has blown out it's butt and pretty much sucked....maybe 3rd party will start to write for business/corporate use on Mac.....

although I still doubt it....

otherwise....Mac is still Ihomeuserlife....

You're kidding right? Do you know how many Macs are used in the Publishing industry? The site I manage has about 300 and thats considered a small site in my company. And yes ARD is the best!! Way better than dameware.

Lmao. There won't be any 3rd party apps for the iPhone. Don't you know that Apple said only their apps will be available. That one of their biggest flaws. No Java client nor the ability to install any programs.

The only thing you'll be allowed to do is what apple says you can. How gay is that?

$600 on a web browsing turd.

I'm definately not a Windows fan, but Vista is no different than XP when it first came out. If you were in the business back then, you would have known that Windows XP was a laughing stock of sorts when it first came out. They always bashed XP about how 2000 was faster and more stabile, and how XP was a failure. They said any Windows release NOT A NUMBER was horrible (ME, XP, etc).

Look how XP turned out. Vista will be the same. Granted its not Ubuntu, but it never will be.

Ok ... if it's so plainly obvious that Apple has stated that there "won't be any 3rd party applications for the iPhone" ever ... care to point us to a link? C'mon, just one ... just one link, that's all. Tell us where you saw an Apple spokesperson quoted as saying anything along those lines ...

And no, quoting what they said about Web2.0+Ajax support at launch is not an answer - because what you're doing then is inferring from there, that that's all we'll ever have.

Admittedly, I can't point you to a statement in the opposite direction - but I never expected 3rd party games on my iPod Video either, but what do you know ... they have it!

http://www.apple.com/itunes/store/games/

So I'd say it's entirely possible that Apple will release 3rd party application support at some point in time, controlled by them through iTunes... there is already precedent for this.
