iPhone bleh. Waiting on next SK

I wonder if anyone else is feeling the same way.

I am pretty disappointed in Danger at this point. I was hoping that the next SK would be released this month to directly compete with the iPhone. I don't feel that "leaks" are enough. "Leaks" are not going to keep people from making the jump to AT&T for a new device. I think that T-mobile and Danger's timing should have been a little better.

I really want to go back to the SK and get rid of this Dash. I am not going to buy a SK3 right now though. The "leaks" have me waiting... Although, I am not the typical consumer.

I think you need buying "Motorola Sidekick Zante" or "Motorola Q700". Wait until 9 or 11 September 2007.

I am going to buy the first SK that comes out. I just think September is a while to wait considering tomorrow the iPhone is released. I would have liked to see more competition.

cheers

Why does everyone feel like all providers need to "compete" with the IPhone? I guess I see why they should, but I'm not sitting around waiting to see what's comming out. I am excited, however, for the upcomming sidekick. I'm gonna try and be first in line, lol

I don't necessarily feel that they have to compete. I just don't see why they wouldn't. Apple creates a lot of hype. Even if the iPhone is garbage, people will still end up with that 2 year AT&T contract. I find it odd that the other 3 are doing nothing to combat all of this hype.

Competing with the iPhone technically is actually not a big challenge. Overcoming their marketing...now that is a mountain to climb. Apple does it the best in the industry.

I loved my SKII. Stuck with it long after the SKIII was released. SKIII seemed like a minimal step up and too 'toy' like. The iPhone had great hype but I ended up with a Helio Ocean. I love the Ocean. The OS is not as quick or user friendly as the SK's, but it was a leap forward in many respects. I wish Danger would put the SK OS on other phones. If the next SK is truly an upgrade of significance, I might come back. And if it came down to SKIII or iPhone, I would take an SKIII over an iPhone without thinking twice. Until SK????whatever is released, I'm enjoying a swim in the Helio Ocean.

I think I had 2o SKIIs they were junk. I had to keep getting replacements. They screen is weak, the camera was trash. And the SKIII was not much of an upgrade. iPhone>SK any day. Or in my case. Curve>SKcrap

I basically agree with the previous poster that iPhone and the Sidekick dont necessarily compete against one another. The Sidekick had always been most prominently the most outstanding integrated text communication device out there. Unfortunately, outstanding communication may not be enough to keep some users. A looming question is must the Sidekick up its entertainment ante to remain viable? On the other hand, it is easy to lose sight of what the Sidekick was originally intended to do and be.

Personally, i dont think think the Sidekick needs to be the iPhone2. A better screen would be nice and an improved camera would be welcome, however.

No SK will ever "directly compete with the iPhone". They are two different designs, aimed at different consumers.

its funny I was at a BBQ the other day and one of my friends switched from an SK3 to an iphone primarily because it was new and integrates SO well with his Mac setup, but we (I have a dash) were talking about how much we miss the SK because it does messaging and large scale communication so easily.

He was remarking on how quickly he could post a large message to his blog, stay on IM to make sure everyone was on their way (he is a promoter), etc., etc. and while the iphone "can" do it, the SK does it so much better it's ridiculous.

I have done software add ons to the wazoo on the dash and I am just not that happy with it. I am hoping the SK4 is a little more mature hardware and software wise, but, for me, there doesn't seem to be a metric crapton of other options (especially for as cheap as the device and plan).

The SK and iPhone are on two totally different fields. One is directed to a younger, "hip" group, the other is mainly for business-eccentric people. Danger would kill its sales if it dropped an SK during post-iPhone hype season. If you were Danger, would you want to sell your newest SK when the iPhone has WiFi and many other features your new SK lacks? That, and that two phones are at totally different price points.

SK2, yeah.........the thing has a VGA camera(<1 MP). IF you seriously rely on a cellphone to take print quality pictures, you're seriously naive. The screen may be low res, but are you watching movies on it? No, you're pretty much taking very little pictures, and texting/surfing. None of that needs super high resolution.

why do they need to feel to compete???
ummm, name me one other phone that people have LITERALLY waited outside of stores for DAYS on end, paid people thousands of dollars for a spot in line, just to get?
now, could the Sidekick come CLOSE to competing in what i just mentioned? yea, maybe closer than any other phone thats ever been released, but it still doesnt even come CLOSE to comparing!
as for the OP waiting for the next Sidekick to come out, im sure MANY other people would agree when I say they would MUCH rather spend the money on the iPhone. Too many people have been NOTHING but dissapointed by both the SidekickII and the Sidekick 3

low res? if i wanted a low res screen i would simply go to my nearest sprint or verizon store and get a free flip phone with a low res screen. when im spending upwards of $300 on a cell phone, and im SURE everyone will agree, i want a little bit more in my screen then 'low res'.

oh and of course im not watching video on the Sidekicks HORRIBLE res screen, it doesnt even SUPPORT video like that free flip phone i purchased does!!!

sorry to waste YET another post on a response to you... but...
i think it has been MORE than confirmed that the iPhone is actually no where NEAR directed at the "business eccentric people". but hey, you keep telling yourself that.
try shooting over to the Apple forum or simply read review after review OR Steve Jobs himself say that Apple & ATT&T arent trying to compete with.. say.. Windows Mobile. but hey, you seem like YOU know what youre talking about!

OK smart one. First off, Apple's main TARGET AUDIENCE is business people. IT just so happens that all the Apple fanboys want one too Trust me, Apple fanboys are used to defending their purchase with all that innovative corporate ******** that Apple feeds them. Just watch a Mac vs PC commercial. There's so many lies in there its a complete joke. Everyone you tell a Mac enthusiast they are wasting their money spending more for a computer that gives less, they get all defensive how their OS is superior beyond no means. Please kid, grow up. Get your facts straight before you come on here and attempt to act smart and try to flame me.

Are you simply THAT stupid? Sure, let's go over to the iPhone forum and read bias reviews on the iPhone from Apple fanboys. I have a Mac, but I'm no fanboy. I know **** from ****, and the iPhone is ****. There are so many other phones that that can do better. One being the HTC TyTN. Come on Apple, EDGE? Why make people buy NEW hardware for 3G when you finally decide to support what should have been supported in the first place.

Yes, the screen IS low res on the Sidekick. It does not have video support no, but you don't need high res for letters on your screen. God, why do they let so many idiots on here again? Go find an unbiased review of the iPhone. Oh wait, you can't!

ummm...
i truely think you are the stupidest son of a ***** around... lol
first off im not an apple fanboy! i dont own a mac, iPhone, shiit i dont even own an iPod. all I was trying to make clear is that the iPhone was NOT meant to be a PDA. Please quote me where I said the iPhone is the most superior phone on the market??? thats right I didnt.
hell, im so much more content with my Ocean that my brother offered me his 4gig iPhone (for free) for x-mas when he gets his 8gig.
am i turning it down? yes, i'll happily surf the web over 3g speeds rather than the iPhones HORRIBLE EDGE... speaking of EDGE, seems the Hiptop/Sidekick run on EDGE speeds too.

before you get all whinny take the time to relax and breath!
the only thing i will say good about the iPhone is that its gonna revolutionize the way cell phones are made from here on out, basically the same way that the Sidekick changed peoples perceptions of what a simple cell phone could be turned into YEARS ago!
do you get me now? im not here to defend Apple or the iPhone.. just make some statements that Im sure many people would agree on!
