curve call log erasing

I have read about the pearl having this trouble, but my curve started doing this yesterday. This is my first BB, and I've had it for about 2 weeks.

What is the deal? I cleaned up the memory, but I really don't want to have to worry about memory all the time. Having to Menu/Close everything is an annoyance. (one I can live with if I have to)

I couldn't find any threads about the curve having this problem. Is there a fix coming from RIM?

What is the lowest I should allow the memory to get to?

When I press alt + back, it shows that PTT and Blackberry Messenger are running in the background. I can't figure out how to close the programs. I don't use either of them, but I must have opened them when I was playing around learning shortcuts. I would rather not have them running in the background taking up memory. After opening both programs, I can't seem to get the menu key to open up an option to close or exit. Anyone know how to close these two programs (PTT and BB Messenger)?

I also noticed that Phone, Messages, and Browser never seem to close. Does alt + back (you have to hold down alt) really show programs that are running in the background?

This is my first BB, and I am annoyed by this memory issue. Do all smartphones have this problem? I wish I didn't have to worry about memory leaks and losing my call log and messages. It's not like I'm a power user. I have all media stored on a 2 gig card, and I have only added two programs. (Google Maps, Olive Tree Bible Reader + 1 Bible)

Ideally you want to maintain about 16MB of free file space. Mine has been fine as low as 9MB.

Go top Options>Status and look at "File Free". Blackberries will delete call logs and SMS once memory starts to run low. Also, make sure you not storing downloaded music/vids to the Berry memory - only to a memory card.
