Okay, here is the first attempt (of many, I'm sure) at an old-fashioned ("real" phone) ringtone. It is not quite as easy as I expected:
Alexander Graham's Bell
You may have to right-click the above link and choose "Save Target As" to save it to your hard drive.
Comments, praises, criticisms and suggestions are most welcome, as I will surely incorporate them into future releases.
I orignally tried to use the "telephone" patch in the General MIDI spec but it does not come out sounding like a phone when you put it on the phone (sounds great on a PC though).
You can download that one here: Mini-Warble
Play both of these on a PC and you'll probably find they sound *exactly* like what you were looking for but they don't translate well into the VX4400. But I will continue to improve them as time allows.

Pianoman, thanks for the ringer (I downloaded Alexander Graham's Bell). Like you predicted, it sounds great on my PC, less good on the phone. Just a little fuzzy (static-y?) on the phone. I may try to lower the volume a tad in Anvil Studio to see if that helps. But you're definitely on the road in the right direction! (And after I wasted countless hours in frustration trying to convert that confounded .wav file into a midi.
)

Me too... Hours and hours wasted.
I have some great sounding .wav files but can't get them converted.

Interesting.... just what I have been looking for, plenty of wav's but nothing in Midi. Have you any update of the file?
Thanks

Thanks. It's hard to find ringtones that don't sound stupid. I really don't want songs playing.

I am in total agreement. I've been looking for ringtones that are actually "ring" tones, that sound like an office phone ringing, etc., but haven't had much luck.
I don't much care to have the latest 50 Cent song playing every time I get a call.

You can try this one - works great on my 4400.

I've got 'em all loaded and ringing. Sounds great.

Anyone tried the one from intersys?

Hey there,
If anyone still has this ringtone (Alexander Graham Bell), I would appreciate it if you would re-post it here, or e-mail it to me at al@baris.net
Thanks alot.

Just curious.... instead of trying to do it Midi, has anyone tried making an MP3 of the ring and put that one the phone?? maybe it sounds better.
Posted by: albaris
I believe the 4400 needs midi files for it's ringtones and not .mp3's

not have mp3's. mp3's make very nice ringers. voices.....chorus.....hook....what more culd you ask for. "well maybe carmen electra naked in my bed room.....but besides that what!
