iTunes/iPhone Contacts List Sync Probs - NO GROUPS!?! (PC/Outlook user)

(Click here to view the original thread with full colors/images)

See this video, of what I assume is an iPhone user that is syncing with a MAC:

http://www.engadget.com/2007/06/30/...te-walkthrough/

Very early in the vid the user looks at his contact list, and also goes into GROUPS.

My iPhone has NO GROUPS. I sync to/with Outlook, and DO have groups setup in there (Family, Coworkers, etc.) but the groups DO NOT sync.

All i get is a list of all contacts with no 'back' button to groups. like the above video had.

WTF!?!?!?!?!

Anyone know how this user got groups? I'm guessing he's a Mac user and the program that it syncs with for Mac users is different and supports this, and Outlook/iTunes sync currently does not.

Any ideas?

Can anyone confirm that there is or is not syncing of categories with Outlook? I didn't see it either.

good question, I didn't see groups under my Addressbook on Mac OS X, but if i go into the contact it tells me what group it belongs to. Would you like me to test it out in VMware Fusion? (Windows on a Mac Software)

On OS X Address Book has Groups on the far left pane. The default is 'All' and unless you add groups, that's where everybody will be. Try creating a group and moving them around then resync.

I will confirm for you.

There is no syncing of groups with Outlook on the PC or syncing of individual calendars with Outlook.

However, you can sync groups with Apple Address Book on the Mac, and individual calendars from iCal.

I can confirm that too, groups sync with my AddressBook on my Mac

Wow, that sucks. A lot. Hopefully this addressed ASAP in a software update in iTunes/iPhone. It's not a dealbreaker - but it may be eventually if I find myself fumbling with a long 200+ long contact list that I'd like organized.

Can more OUTLOOK users confirm they AREN'T able to sync groups?

Single Calender isn't a big deal either.

Actually, even the groups sync with Outlook isn't a bid deal, BUT:

Does anyone know how to create groups in the phone itself, if Outlook won't do it itself? I can't figure it out

I have Outlook 2003 and I can't get the calendar entries to sync at all. What version of Outlook do you have and what operating system?

Thanks

My problem with contacts sync is that itunes doesn't seem to sync my contact photos from OS X's address book into the iPhone. None of the photos for my contacts are in the iPhone in its addressbook.

Sorta had the same issue. I could not get recurring events to sync. Single events were fine, but weekly conference calls, birthdays etc would not sync. I tried re-creating them and the first entry would sync but the next event, like the same call the next week, would not sync over.

I had calendar issues too, but, for my needs, the Outlook syncing isn't critical, so long as the phone itself can handle my needs.

I need reccuring events that I can do WEEKLY BY DAY, like , every M, W, F have apt. from 5-6 PM, and the PHONE CAN'T DO IT! I'm shocked. I can do Mondays weekly, repeat 5-6, and then Wednesday, and then Friday, but that's a MASSIVE pain. AND, should I need to edit them later I'd have to do that one at a time too. All the Mondays at a time, all the Wednesdays, etc.)

And if I could just create the groups in the phone, I'd deal/live with it. But I can't!

I'm using Win XP Pro, and Outlook 2007.

You cannot create groups on the iPhone or in Outlook. The ONLY way is on a Mac.

It sucks.

Had to upgrade Outlook to 2007 to get it to synch properly with Iphone. Outlook has categories, similar to groups, but these do not synch to the iphone. Iphone only synchs individual contacts with a PC and not the categories.
