Samsung c417 vs Nokia 6102i

So I went to a store in San Gabriel today to switch my family plan from T-Mo to Cingular. It's an extra $30 a month (more minutes, but less text/picture messaging) but I'm hoping reception for Cingular/AT&T is better.

Anyway - my parents got the Samsung c417 phone. I'm getting the Sony Ericsson w810i. Are the Samsung phones good? They were kind of leaning towards the Nokia phone that was free after rebate (I think it was the 6102i) but the lady really pushed the Samsung.

Now that I look online, I find that the Samsung doesn't allow for data transfers - Bluetooth is disabled (except to hook up to BT headset) and there are possibly no data cables/software to use to transfer pictures/ringtones.

Should we return the phones for the Nokia? At the very least, you can transfer ringtones/pictures with the Nokia (using Bluetooth), correct?

I also don't like the non-customizable buttons on the Samsung - I keep pushing the middle button trying to access the Menu button (like I've customized my Moto v300), but all it does it take me to the WAP browser.

Any thoughts? I believe we can return the phone within 14 days... the lady at the store even said so when she said that she would not send in the rebate until after 14 days (just in case we change our mind)...

New Samsung users just need to get used to the fact that what they know or knew about on other phones, is not quite the same with a Samsung.

The fact that the Menu option is displayed on the screen for you to press the Left Soft Key seems rather simple.

As for being able to upload ringtones/wallpapers to the C417, it can be done using one of the data cables and PC Studio software as I have done it with mine.

The reason I believe they are pushing the Samsungs are to get rid of their inventory of Cingular labeled phones to make room for the next batch of AT&T labeled Samsungs.

The Samsung C417 is apparently about to be replaced by the A437, which does have customizable shortcut settings - but the center key is not customizable on any of the AT&T Samsungs. It also adds a Bluetooth Serial Port Protocol (SPP) so it *might* work with the Samsung PC Studio software.

Info on Samsung's website is here . I don't know when it will be in the stores or what it'll cost - maybe the lady in your store knows.

The Nokia and Samsung user interfaces are a bit different, and which one your parents are more comfortable with might be more important.
