I was playing around with the settings and I noticed that under Control Panel>Messanging Accounts> SMS there is a field where u can specify whether u want GSM or GPRS, does that mean I can send SMS's over GPRS?
My plan does not have any included SMS's so I'm charged per SMS ( 10 cents each....cingular sucks! ). If I can send SMS's over my GPRS connection then I can save some $, right?
How big ( in bytes ) is a typical ( one or two lines ) SMS ?
Can soneone please post some information on this subject?
Thanks!
oh BTW, I'm with Cingular (
) in LA.

Yes, you can send SMS messages over GPRS. Whether it will save you money or not is entirely dependent on your plan. 7-bit text mode SMS packets are 160 bytes in length. So with a 1MB data plan, you could send 6250 SMS messages.

Very Cool!
I tried to send a SMS after changing the SMS setting to GPRS and I got a failed message. I can brouse the web using GPRS no problem.
Are there any other settings that I have to change in order to send SMS's thru GPRS?
Thanks!
