Internet Via Edge/gprs, But Not Via Wi-fi

I own an HTC Exclaibur (Tmobile Dash). When I was with Tmobile I could access Internet via Wi-Fi. I recently switched from Tmobile to Cingular for better cell coverage. I can detect and connect to the Wi-Fi from my home's wireless router, but I can't connect to the Internet. Screen just sits there for awhile saying "Locating...". Then a get "The page cannot be displayed or downloaded because the connection was lost. Check the connection and try again later." I CAN use internet over Cingular wireless system via EDGE/GPRS.

Any suggestions?

Also, how do I connect to other non-secure Wi-Fi? I assume that the network type is "Internet", that the connection is not device to device, the "key is automatically provided", data encryption is disabled, network key is left blank(?), key index is 1.

Is this right or do you need to know specific info about each non-secure wireless network in order to connect to it?

My guess is that your connection settings need to be changed - on the 8525 you get there by going:
Start - Settings - Connections - Connections - Advanced - Select Networks

The first drop down menu should not be MediaNet if you want to use WiFi. MyISP will work, or you can create another connection labeled WiFi Only...

To connect to an unsecure network, once you open the WiFi signal, if there is an available network you will get a pop up bubble, and you tap connect. I've never had to mess with anything else myself.

I am experiencing similar difficulty following the process for setting up an SSID with WEP reference. Sometimes I find a path that looks right but can't complete the process. What would be helpful is a more detailed help guide for setting up the variety of options this phone has. Does such a guide or FAQ list exist? Where can you find software updates for this device?

It could be some router settings, I've read here and there on the forum about that, but I haven't had that myself.

However, sometimes I do get that message - and here is a solution I've read about that does work for me:

Tap your signal strength icon (the bars) and turn on Flight Mode - after it has shut down the signals - turn off Flight Mode - then tap on your E (or whatever your icon is for data) and turn your WiFi back on. After your moving arrows have stopped, and they are still - open PIE, and try the internet.

If that doesn't help, it most likely is something router related...

if ur on att, and its an 8525(not sure about other models)
try disabling the proxy for wifi
and enabling it for edge/3g
