New 8525 and a few questions

Ok I got a new 8525 unlocked using T-Mobile and have a few questions.

First off is it just me or do pictures look horrible? The pictures I have taken look like total crap compared to my Blackberry Pearl which has a 1.3 MP camera compared to the 2.0 MP on the 8525. I have it setup for Super Fine pictures and 2MP resolution.
I am not liking the email feature on this as much as the blackberry. I configured my email (gmail) and it downloaded my messages but now it never tells me if I have new ones and I never get new ones yet there are new ones in my email. How can I fix this?

I know I will eventually have more questions but could somoene please answer these questions

Actually the camera takes very good pictures.

As for the Gmail issues, this has always been an issue since Gmail is a Http based mail service. I quit trying to set up POP with it a long time ago.

What do you have to do to get good pictures then? Here is a comparison from my last phone and this phone:

8525:

Blackberry 8100:

As you can see the Blackberry is a lot clearer.

Also what do you have to do to zoom in? The other day I was able to and now it wont let me for some reason.

New question:

Is it possible to use custom SMS tones and whatnot. And how do you make it so that it won't let you know everytime you have sent a message?

Are you sure you arent taking those pictures in macro mode? There is a little switch by the camera lens.

Also, the zoom is a liitle tricky.. sometimes it will zoom, other times no. I still have to figure it out.

Yes you can make custom SMS tones. You need to save the sound as a *.wav and store it in the /windows folder.

There is a reg edit or you can use a program called HTweekC that has the option to disable the notification.

FYI. The reg edit still sends the confirmation but closes it automatically. The HTweekC program eliminates the notification completely

I do not know, but on my Wing, you can go to Start, Settings, Sounds & Notifications, Notifications tab, and you can change the new text message notification from there to anything you want, for a custom file, just drop it in the main directory of your storage card.

Which way does the switch need to be to not be in macro mode? The dot or the flower?

Ok thanks got the camera working better now. Now does anyone have a good explanation for the zoom?

from what ive been told if you have it set on 2mp or 1mp the resoulution is set and you cant zoom in.its hard to believe but so far from my experience its true.

Yeah I had to break down and read the manual for the camera on this phone. I know I broke the guy rule but it helped. My opinion, I think the 8525 takes pretty good pictures for 2 MP. One thing I noticed is that the MMS videos are total crap, don't even bother using this unless you have to.
