How to tell if Treo 650 is unlocked

I just bought a Treo 650 that is from Cingular from a private party. It's supposed to be unlocked. Since I only have a Cingular SIM card, I can't tell if it will work with overseas SIM cards.
Is there a way to tell if the Treo is unlocked?
Is there a code or something that indicates a subsity lock?

If you know someone who uses T-Mobile or another GSM carrier, just pop their SIM card in the 650.

I'm 99.9% sure the only way is to try another SIM card.

My 650 has no place for a SIM card, so I'm supposing if you do have a SIM slot - you may be locked.
