Since this is GSM/CDMA can it be used with Fido right away or does it require unlocking. And for the moment is that feasible?

It cannot be used with Fido as the GSM function on the BlackBerry 8830 is 900/1800 MHz (which are frequencies used overseas), GSM frequencies in North America are 850/1900 MHz. If you like the BlackBerry 8830 and want a GSM variant to use on Fido then you're best off with the BlackBerry 8800.
