MOTOROLA X DANGER X SIDEKICK [PICS/Info]

Here's the Zante, up close and lustrously yours. Today we got plenty of fresh technical information about this Motorola-flavored Sidekick plus two new pretty pics. One of them above, the other after the jump, showing its funky purple sliding keyboard. After seeing it, I want to lick it.

The Zante, or Motorola Q900, will probably come out in October complete with full multimedia playback support, Java, game controllers and the obligatory Danger OS. Even while it is as gleaming and shares the same EDGE connectivity (this time by T-Mobile), it doesn't seem to compete with the JesusPhone, including only 128MB of internal Flash RAM. Its only expansion slot just can handle MiniSD cards up to 2GB.

According to our tipster, Motorola and T-Mobile are aiming at 5.9 hours of talk time and a $269 average selling price tag, which sounds great for a cellphone with all these features.

Sliding Sidekick =

Posted by: dzzone

I hope they will bring out 2 versions
1) a Motorola Zante with slide
2) a Sidekick with a side flip out screen

That way at least the motorola version could make it back into Canada.
Since the Hiptop is eliminated here.

I just would like it with a larger screen and slim Design.

piece of crap

no 3g, no good. GET WITH THE TIMES TMOBILE!!

Posted by: AdmiralAK

Not much is known about this phone yet - hopefully more will materialize.
I hope danger puts in at least a 2MP camera

Slide? Lame!

Looks like Danger is gonna disappoint again!

Motorola fights over SIDEKICK 4

Yes its true what we have been waiting for! the sidekick 4 is on its way! although the name is still in debate on whether it should be sidekick 4, sidekick NG(Next Generation), Motorola Sidekick, Motorola HIPTOP, or the Motorola Black Bird. Yes Yes more than likely it will be named the sidekick 4. but the last couple of days in the board room there has been these names tossed up. and many of you may be wondering why its motorola? well The company that has the sidekick is Danger but they dont make it. they basically just make the software. so the sidekick 3 was made by sharp but this one will be with motorola! and why will they change the name to Black Bird of all things? Well Motorola wants to end the sidekick era and start a new one that will be known to be created by Motorola! And the sidekick is with held by a contract with t-mobile agreeing that the sidekick will not switch to ANY OTHER companys for the life of the sidekick OR hiptop generation. So you see the Black Bird is not the sidekick! There for giving motorola the right to sell the sidekick to any company. That will be devistating to T-mobile causing lots of damage because there sidekick is one of there top selling phones. if this phone is disowned from them they will be loosing lots of money. maybe causeing prices to rise. Although there have plenty good talks with t-mobile, Motorola's just a money hungry *** that will do what ever it needs to make its money. Motorola is in the process of making a deal with T-MOBILE that states. They will pay 55 million to by the sidekick contract from them and they will stay with t-mobile only if they pay 150$ to buy the phone the first 9 months, and then 99$ for the next 9 months and 75 $ every month after that until the next one is released! what will this mean? DRASTIC price increase for the sidekick! yes that means the first 9 months it could be selling anywhere from 500$ to 900$ depending on the current situation. Although there has been threats from T-MOBILE to motorola saying that if they do that they will drop all motorola phones. Motorola says they wont negotiate with threats, But what are they doing to T-Mobile. as the days progress it looks like we will be seeing the Black Bird at the other crappy networks!

i will be posting the advertisement of the sidekick NG. The name plan i pitched in the meeting.

Many have said that the Sidekick "Slide" is not actually the sidekick 4. It's just a model in between. They would not bring out an SK 4 without a real BlueTooth, or lacking video. This is to simply fill in the gap between the SK3 and SK4.

Look on the leaked documents. It shows a filing for Sidekick LE and Sidekick LX as well as a third Sidekick.

Here's to hoping it comes to Verizon! <3

2 questions:

How accurate is this information? Did it come from a reliable source?

What are the chances that it will come out before November?

Thanks

All the informations about pictures and features of "Motorola Slide" / "Motorola Q700" is still unconfirm by Motorola. Some information said will launch around 9 or 11 September 2007 or lately around Oktober 2007.

Why Sept 11? Out of all the days in a year, they are thinking that day? That's a bit messed up.

Posted by: Orlando_65

Why? It's not the day the world ended, it was the day that terrorists attacked. Why give them (or that day) power? I'm all for rememberance and mournings, but to not wanna release a phone on that day just because? Please.

Posted by: christyxcore

Yeah, not to sure about a sliding "Sidekick"

Because the media will bury the launch story behind hundred of pages of rememberance days story.

Its a day like any other, but on a media stand of view, its a day to make money talking about what happened, not about some teen oriented phone release.

Posted by: KingMikeSays

Did nobody catch the word "mini" is spelled wrong? And they wrote "mem" instead of memory...hmm....

Posted by: FamousActor143

There was a debate in the T-Mobile Sidekick forum about whether or not this is the next sidekick, or if it is another Danger powered device. What do you guys think?

Posted by: Orlando_65

Gutterpunk:

Agreed! But that just means less people in line when it releases! =-D

Is the latest Sidekick Zante stuff made-up?

CrunchGear posted about the latest Sidekick Zante/Slide info and are a bit cautious about believing it. We’re also a bit skeptical over here. Here are some reasons why we think the latest “leak” of Zante / Slide info is flawed.

# The Zante on the features image is a bad photoshop. Why would you put a black phone on a black background? And even so, why not outline it in white rather than leftover garbage from a select tool? However the actual Zante image itself is something new. I just find it hard to believe that any “official doc” like this would be so poorly done.
# What is the difference between a Feature and an Enabler? Why so much repetition in specifications? Are you just trying to take up space?
# The Zante will use microSD not “Mlini SD”
# The Zante has previously been reported as the Q700, not the Q900.
# All the info has been previously leaked in some form already or easily assumed. It’s easy to gather it all and photoshop it together.
# Why is it spelled “Catalogue” and not “Catalog” like it is on the Sidekick devices?
# The screen on the Zante is an image of Danger OS 3.0, not 4.0 like the URL for the user manual placeholder on Danger’s site indicates.
# Why in the world would you measure size in cc instead of inches or millimeters?
# There is talk of the Zante having incredible battery life, but the battery is only 1130mAh, whereas the Sidekick 3’s current battery is 1500mAh and only gets about a day of usage. Can we really believe that they dropped the power consumption that much to get a rumoured 5.9hrs of talk time?
# No mention of the feature of OS OTAs? This is one of the features that Danger has that most other phones don’t.
# “WMA.2.5mm Audio” ? - Is this a new codec or did someone not hit return to create a new bullet point about the size of the headphone port?

All in all, I think some of this info is right, some of it is wrong, and some of it is old. Perhaps the person leaking this does have access to some info, but I don’t think this came from Danger or Motorola. Anyone else want to point out other fun facts about this latest “leak”?

What difference does it make?

Its about damn time that Danger drop the numeral IMHO. No one ever heard of the Rzr 2 or Rzr 3. And not doing "official sequels" means that they can concentrate on new designs rather than adding new features...

That said, everyone seems to forget that we are waiting for 2 new devices, and only talk we hear about is the Zante/Slide. Both cannot be the next Sidekick, so one of them has to be a "Danger Powered Device" for sure...

The Zante and the slide are the same phone. Zante is just its codename in the FCC documentation. As long as the keyboard is not RAZR style, then I'm fine with the phone.

As well, the Sidekick Slide(Zante) is an official phone according to the FCC docs, but the specifications and renderings are said to be a bit sketchy.

Here's hope to that it comes to Canada

Posted by: dzzone

Yes please let it come this way up north.
we need a fresh device.

Posted by: j_simon208

First off, a new design doesnt change the fact that it is very feature deprived. 1.3mp cam? No 3G, when 3G rollout is months away? Also, the same resolution screen? WTF? I will most likely NEVER go back to a Danger product if they dont start listening to customers, and if Helio/Sprint had 3G coverage in my area...I would have been GONE from T-mobile in a heartbeat... Grrrrr@ U.S. cellphone market

Posted by: Carlan600i

the sk4 has a more spreadout keyboard, its much easier to type on. its much thinner, and square-like on the edges. the screen is still somewhat small and there is no slide, still the same flip out.

Posted by: This Is Bida

ehh.. i'll believe it when i see it.
not to say that im totally ditching the idea of it, but year after year there is just WAY too much speculation and rumors about upcoming Sidekick/Danger devices.
if anything tho, I truely hope that Moto does get ahold of Danger's OS. 'cause as of this point the Sidekick, in most terms, has been a major dissapointment and it has NOTHING to do with the OS (well, not completely).

Motorolas got a design team that could make a pile of shlt sell. Sharp constantly makes the Sidekicks look dull. While I dont really agree with the slide (truely I think this will turn people away from the "Sidekick" name [if thats what its even called] for the simple fact that so many people simply want a Sidekick cause of its swivel screen) change is never a bad thing and thats what the Sidekick needs. a total revamping.

-t-mobile needs to update to 3G. EDGE is officially pathetic
-better camera, for a 1.3 mp cam its the worst, by FAR, that i've used
-why in GODS name did t-mo disable mms???
-open up the phone to custom ringtones! why do other t-mo devices have this BUT the SK doesnt?
-better media player. if i gotta carry around that big device give me something atleast DECENT to compete with an ipod
-*cough*QVGA screen*cough*
-its called a video recorder... get one!

now what can Moto bring to the table?
Moto can truely solve some of these problems so honestly, i do hope this is a true device, but like i said before...
"i'll believe it when i see it"

Posted by: Mistaj0hnny

Well to maintain the $19.99 Sidekick data plan, they obviously have to make some sort of money. Asking for 3G and custom ringtones is already too much. Obviously they would have to update servers to 3G and god knows how pricey that would make the Sidekick itself and the Sidekick data plan. If you're all gonna complain about having to pay for ringtones, then don't buy them. T-Mobile has to charge for everything to keep the unlimited data and messaging plan at the low cost of $19.99 monthly. Unless, you guys want to have a $50.00+ monthly charge for data usage and custom things such as ringtones. I'm gonna purchase the next generation Sidekick no matter what, as long as I can afford it.

There's no RAZR 2? Look again: http://www.engadget.com/2007/05/15/the-motorola-razr-2/

But seriously, who cares about the Sidekick until it goes 3G? I know that I'm not going back to T-Mobile and giving up my 800kbps EVDO for 192kbps EDGE. Now... if they launch 3.6 or 7.2Mbps HSDPA AND have widespread penetration through Denver? Hell yeah I'll switch back.

And I agree... who the hell would want a sliding Sidekick? The flip is ALWAYS the first thing people think of when they see a Sidekick... I can't tell you how many times people asked if they could flip mine... and they'd do it over and over again.

Also, people need to learn how to read... If those specs are even remotely right, they say QVGA right there... Danger/T-Mobile KNOW that it would be a dumb move to release the same screen again.... I wish they'd get with the program and do VGA or do a widescreen... LCDs are really cheap these days... there is simply no excuse for an LCD to be less than QVGA... and really, widescreen is the only way to go if you want video...

Oh man, too many complain.
When "Motorola V3 Razr" in the market for first time; many complain about features but the fact that's mobile to be the successor and the fact is other brand copy cat from "Motorola V3 Razr" in slimmer mobile.

iPhone? Boring... Same as like other PDA Phone / Pocket PC.
Nokia? Boring... Same as like other mobile.
Sony Ericsson? Boring... Same as like other mobile.
Samsung? Boring... Same as like other mobile.

You want 3G Technology, just buy mobile phone with 3G Technology.
You want HSDPA Technology, just buy mobile phone with HSDPA Technology.
You want 4G Technology, just buy mobile phone with 4G Technology.

What other else complaint?

Samsung has "Ultra Thin Phone"
Samsung has "Ultra Thin 2 Phone"
Is that's boring?

This post is proof positive of why I absolutely HATE "broken English"!

To quote one of the characters in Jay & Silent Bob Strike Back:

"Man, I don't know what you just said, kid, but you're special!"

Posted by: EtherealRemnant

Ditto.

But from what I gathered...

Telling us to buy a 3G phone for 3G, HSDPA phone for HSDPA, 4G for 4G, etc., doesn't do a damn bit of good when T-Mobile's network doesn't support any of the above.

The case is this -- This isn't a first-revision model like the RAZR... think about how many Sidekicks have come and gone... Sidekick, Sidekick Color, Sidekick II, Sidekick III, and the latest, the Sidekick iD, which is nothing more than a joke IMO... none of them have seen any major hardware revisions, only software tweaks, crappy cameras, and the addition of a removeable battery. Everything else was all aesthetics and usability. Aesthetics and usability can only carry a device so far before people get tired of the same old garbage every time around and find something new.

I left the Danger platform for a PocketPC. Why? Thousands of third-party apps available, more than twice the screen resolution, an unlocked interface that allows me to customize it at will, better battery life, faster web service, much more well-developed applications, the ability to edit documents on the road... the list goes on and on, really.

I'm not alone in having converted. The ONLY thing I miss about my Sidekick II was how well it handled IMs. Everything else, my PocketPC does much better.

If Danger wants to stay afloat, they need to get on the technology bandwagon and produce a device that's actually WORTH the 300 dollar price tag with carrier subsidy...

Posted by: HelloRobo

SideKicks are underspec'd and overpriced. They're also really freaking big.

T-Mobile is selling them based on the brand alone, but the SideKick name is quickly losing its caché. Danger/Moto can't get a slim SideKick out fast enough.

I think I know that, more than anyone else.

What I meant is, look at the leaked stuff. There is more to it than the Zante alone, even if everyone has focused on it.
