iPhones dock connector useless!

(Click here to view the original thread with full colors/images)

I've tried all the iPod accesories that I can get my hands on and none of the FM modulator types will work with the iPhone. Sure they'll charge it but they won't pass audio. Is there not any audio out in the iPhones dock connector?
This in my opinion was a big screw up. It sure would have been nice to drop the iPhone in my DLO stand and play tunes just like my iPod or for that matter wide screen videos.

Oh no! I was about to buy a dock connector to rca cable to play tunes in the car. Are you saying it wont work?

My car has an ipod dock xonnector and it works flawlessly. I can fast forward and even use the steering wheel buttons.

o far my experience has been that some will work and others will not. One of my dock speakers work and one of them doesn't. Everything will charge it but not everything gets audio. My belkin wired car adaptor doesn't work, but that's okay because I still have my old iPod.
Once the manufacturers can test with the iPhone then we will see accessories that actually work with the iPhone properly. It won't take long.

I've been using the DLO transdock Micro for the original shuffle and it works perfect. Audio is superb and its awesome how when someone calls you the music fades out and it plays your ringtone through your car speakers.

And this works through the iPhones dock connector? Does it have to be in airplane mode?

The docking station that's in the box has an audio out port in the back. Bluetooth dongles seem to work. Sadly there is no a2dp support yet.

my alpine 9856 also works flawlessly(plays music and rings over the line) with the iphone.but the monstercable fm modulater didn't seem to work.

Also noted that the audio jack on the dock doesn't do anything that I would have hoped ,as we pluged in the apple rca video converter and only got audio when playing video on the iPod.

Was really hoping that it would have been able to change functionality based on application ,afterall it is a "smarter phone" ney brilliant phone.

Yes, it works perfectly and it doesn't have to be in airport mode. It asks you if you want to put it in airport mode, but just click no and the audio is perfect.

Works great with my mazda factory connector, when you get a call or email it lowers the audio and plays the ringer/mail sound/sms sound. If you answer the phone it pauses the audio and then picks it right up. Works with steering wheel controls and everything.

Can't you just plug a mini plug from the iphone into any FM mdulator that has the same mini audio connector on it? I'm pretty sure this will work fine.

Posted by: faithie999

yes, some of the larger FM modulators have an audio input. however, i think this thread is talking about ipod fm modulators that work via the multipin connectors. as has been mentioned, some of them work and some of them don't. this was mentioned by apple some time ago.
fwiw, i have a "neucleus" ipod adaptor that is an aftermarket device for GM (and maybe other makes) vehicles, and the iphone works fine with that.

Hello
Anyone knows if the factory connector for the mazda 3 works with the iphone?
Thanks!

has anyone had problems with their iphones after a prolonged use with their car adapter? because i asked a tech guy from iRepair and he told me that most of these car adapters fry the whole comm board on the phone. he said the best option is to use the aux jack on the car stereo and buy the monster cables that support the iphone.

i don't have the aux on my stereo (2003 Acura TL), does anyone have any suggestions?

If you don't have an AUX input on your stereo then an FM modulator is really your only option, as the iPhone doesn't support A2DP.

On my Honda Element I have a factory equipped audio-in jack and I use the supplied Apple dock connector which works flawlessly. I can charge the iphone and listen to music on the drive into and from the office.
