Hey all,

I recently got a Treo 650 off of Ebay. IT is a Cingular brand phone. I had a old Nokia 6102 and wanted to upgrade. I thought that I could just put my SIM Card in and it would work. But to my surprise, I insert the card into the treo and it gives me the message "Sim card not allowed. Your phone cannot be used with this SIM card." So i can only make SOS calls. What is up with this? Is the phone locked to a certain SIM card? Will Unlocking the phone fix the problem? Any suggestions will help alot!!

Thanks

What kind of SIM do you have? If it is AT&T old school, unlock the phone and it will be solved.

More than likely it is really a Cingular Blue Treo 650 that will only work with Legacy AT&T Wireless SIM cards. The Treo 650 came out right around the time Cingular bought AT&T Wireless and they had both Cingular and Blue Model phones.

Some of the Blue Models included the Treo 650, Motorola V3, V551, V180 and possibly the V220. These models worked only with the AT&T Wireless SIM cards even though the branding on the phones were Cingular. These were offered to most of the Business accounts that were from AT&T Wireless. It was this way so that the businesses could keep their current plans and just swap their AT&T Wireless SIM into them.

Bad thing about these Blue Models is that Cingular wouldn't unlock them to work with Cingular SIM cards. With the Treo 650, you'll need to send it to some place that could replace the Cingular Blue firmware with the Cingular Orange one to use Cingular SIM cards.

Thanks for the help.

So I called Cingular and they told me that they would send me a new SIM card. I then thought that there has to be an easier way. I than did some research on hofo and thanks to everyone, I decieded to just get the unlock code for my treo 650. I paid $15 to have it unlocked at 650unlock.com. This place is really great!!! Took me like less than 5mins and now everything works GREAT!!! Not sure what I can do with the SIM card that Cingular is going to send me though!

Thanks a bunch
