hey guys, im buying a BB 8700 used for $100 , worth it?

second ... I have a cell phone with rogers and i was wondering if i can just pop out my sim card and insert it into the BB and use it as a cell phone? Im really just interested in the BB as a QWERTY keyboard with calendar and organizer. Also does anyone know of the top of their head if the 8700 can connect to wireless routers for internet?

thanks

You can just sim swap and use the device for voice, sms and organizer. You cannot connect the BlackBerry 8700 to a wireless router for internet connectivity as the device has no WiFi capability.

thanks for the reply i was thinking of getting 5MB internet for $5 from rogers,. could i use that to check my email and surf on the BB? doesnt the 8700 have Edge? isnt Edge used for rogers' wireless internet? i dont want to keep downloading all the emails in my inbox, but it would be nice to know when i had new email without using up all my 5mb soo soon :P lol basically i cant afford the BB packages

The 8700 is an EDGE enabled device. Data package wise you can't use a $5 wap package for wireless web surfing and emails on the BlackBerry. You will require a BlackBerry data pack from Rogers Wireless if you want to surf the web and have emails delivered to your handset.

Sorry to say that Rogers is not going to let you do anything for $5!

A BB Data plan is required. Do not feel bad as many buy their device and find this out afterwards

do u guys think the BB 8700 is worth it for $100 as a cell and organizer? like i said before i would love to just be able to make calls on it and use its calendar/notes functions then maybe a couple of months from now when i can afford it tack on the bb service from rogers. oh btw...

$25 (on 3 year term) 0.5 MB* $31 per MB
$40 (on 3 year term) 1 MB** $10 per MB
$45 (on 3 year term) 1 + 1 MB** $10 per MB
$60 (on 3 year term) 25 MB** $7 per MB
$65 (on 3 year term) 25 + 25 MB** $7 per MB
$100 (on 3 year term) 200 MB $5 per MB

those are rogers prices... am i crazy of does paying $25 for .5MB seem rediculous? and then after that its $31/Mb! WTF!? i can see u using up that space after visiting 3 webpages, lol! and is there a way of tracking your MB usage on the bb?

Are those BB data plan pricing or just data pricing. You have to have a BB plan in order to use any data on a BB. I dont know anything about Rogers, but in the US, most carriers just offer a data plan..... ATT offers a plan to do BES and one to do BIS. The BES plan is aimed at those who need corp email, BIS is more for personal use.

To be honest, I owned a BB8700 but without a data plan at all, I think you might be better off with a different device where you can use data without having to fork over for the BB data plan. While the BB is a very competent organizer, the beauty is wireless sync of your PIM info. Are you using outlook or something else on your desktop to sync with?
